Khan, Assistant Professor – Faculty of Business Administration Section : C & E Course Objective : This course addresses the management of operations in manufacturing and service organizations. Diverse activities, such as determining the size and type of production process, purchasing the appropriate raw materials, planning and scheduling the flow of materials and the nature and content of inventories, assuring product quality, and deciding on the production hardware and it gets used, comprise this function of the company. Managing operations effectively requires both strategic and tactical skills and is one of the most critical aspects of an organization. Effective and efficient utilization of resources by an organization determines its successes in the long run and operations management is means to achieve this. This course will be of interest to management majors and is a pre-requisite for some other management classes. This class can also be useful to students with other majors because every business has operation component. While primary objective of this course is to familiarize students with the basic concepts, techniques, methods and applications of operations managements. It will provide them with an understanding of operations and the role that they play within an organization. By the end of the course, students should have developed an appreciation for the challenges in providing world class products and services and the ability to use some analytical tools and conceptual frameworks to guide their thinking about operations.
