Doodle Bug In the story the Scarlet Ibis contains two main characters Doodle a young boy born with a heart defect and his brother to whom this writing is based on. This story was told through a first person point of view through doodles brother eyes his brother showed love,ignorance and caringness. Doodles brother was embarrassed at first of his brother and did not show much love towards his brother as shown in this sentence “When Doodle was five I was embarrassed by having a brother that age who couldn’t walk".He was embarrassed by his brother because he could not do all the same things that a person without the problems he had could do. Not only did Doodles brother show love but he also showed ignorance for example at the climax of the story when he let his own ignorance get in the way of his responsibility leading to Doodles death all for a joke. He also showed ignorance in other ways like when he took Doodle to see his casket in barn as shown in this sentence “One day I took him up to the barn loft and showed him his casket telling him how we believed he would die”. He even showed ignorance when he wouldn’t help him down from the loft until he touched his casket “And before i’ll help you down from the loft, you’re going to have to touch it”. He showed ignorance at the beginning by not loving and accepting his brother for who he was which was the reason for helping him but his reason should not have been out of disappointment but it should’ve been out of love. Doodles brother knew that he did not like being left and that with his condition he was highly susceptible to a heart attack. And although he knew the possibility of what could happen, showing his ignorance again he left him
