...er Easy A Easy A is a movie about a nerdy girl, Olive, who is in high school. She only has few friends, and usually lies to them to get out of hanging out with them on the weekends. She has made up so many lies. One weekend she tells her friend she can’t hang out because she is spending the weekend with a college guy. When she returns to school Monday morning, her friend wants Olive to tell her all about her weekend with the college boy. Just when she thinks she is alone with her friend in the bathroom, Olive makes up her own rumor that she “lost her virginity” to get her friend off her back. Little does she know that the most Christian girl in school was using the restroom and overheard this rumor. Although Olive didn’t really lose her virginity, Marianne, the Christian girl tells everyone in school about this rumor and wants everyone to know how bad of a person Olive is for doing this. It just so happens that during the same week this rumor is going on, the students were learning about the book “The Scarlet Letter” in English class. Everyone starts comparing Olive to the girl in the book because of this rumor. One of Olives guy friends comes to her house one day and asks for Olives help. If this situation sounds familiar, you may find it reassuring to know that many professionals undergo these same strange compulsions before they begin writing. Jean Kerr, author of Please Don’t Eat the Daisies, admits that she often finds herself in the kitchen reading soup-can labels—or anything—in order to prolong the moments before taking pen in hand. John C. Calhoun, vice president under Andrew Jackson, insisted he had to plow his fields before he could write, and Joseph Conrad, author of Lord Jim and other novels, is said to have cried on occasion from the sheer dread of sitting down to compose his stories.
