The first article I found to counter this issue is the new federal program that the school district meets the needed points for the Department of Agriculture's Community Eligibility Provision program, which is available to predominantly low-income districts nationwide beginning July 1. The creation of this program will aid in giving food to needing students, but could create additional overlapping health care concerns for different welfare programs with school finances stemming from less money for food or other needs. This next article is both for and against the need to have a better way to give students a good meal at school or to find ways to help those less able to pay as needed for lunches. The article alternates with both sides of problem from issues with how government tries to fix the issue and as to what people feel that is wrong with what is being done for a wide coverage catch all with alternatives for the lack of real coverage on problems. The issues with this article on lunches is with what a mess the Mrs. Obama has created with what she wants for the schools to have or give to students which are some of the problems that causes raising prices for lunches in schools, but not in private ones like her children’s school where the new changes aren’t made as policy. The need for a one for all is needed to have the school system on even footing even though there are different kinds of schools and how their run from a religious to a scientific way by design. School Lunches In Schools Essay

...With our school district being mostly populated my underprivileged families, it is important to provide nutritious, healthy food twice a day. Our current food industry provider gets paid for every student they service for breakfast and lunch, so it is vital to the company to feed as many of the students as possible. School lunches should be nutritious, and healthier for students. With obesity and diabetes plaguing the community, school lunches need to focus on providing the student with a balance of healthy foods that the student may not normally get at home. According to a website healthyeating.SFGate.com, 23.5 % of high school-ers eat meals from fast food restaurants. And according to the same website, high school aged girls should only consume 1800 calories per day. The administration feels “healthy lunches set children up for success,” and that is what needs to be focused on. By providing a better healthy, nutritious lunch our high school will help students be successful. The school in itself is not to blame for unhealthy eating habits....

...The ability to improve academic performance by simply changing the nutritional value of school lunches has sparked an increased interest in providing free meals for all students as New York City has motioned to do. In the city, approximately 75% of students had already qualified for free or reduced meals leaving the majority of food expenses to fall on struggling communities (Piccoli, Sean). Other major cities such as Boston, Chicago, and Detroit have begun subsidizing more of the school lunch programs and entertaining the idea of providing it entirely free of cost (Piccoli, Sean). By utilizing a federal program that enables school districts whose students reach a certain economic threshold the ability to subsidize the entire district as New York City elected to do. The long term stigmas associated with receiving government assistance prompted many students and families...

Regulating School Lunches

...years ago when I was working an internship in Dallas, Texas, I was talking with a fellow intern about a few struggles that people face when they live in poverty. For example, I said that the school I attended would seem overwhelmingly “redneck” when compared to the school he attended in Allen, Texas (located in an extremely wealthy county in the U.S.A.). In any event, prior to telling information about my school, he spoke on problems related to his primary education. For example, the school lunches didn’t have pizza every day to choose from after Michelle Obama endorsed a new law that passed to regulate school lunches in order to make them more nutritious. My fellow classmates from high school were happy if we had hamburgers; actually, my classmates and I didn’t have any choice other than the default peanut butter and jelly, or what was being offered that day....

...to get their hand in on school lunch programs across America. As a highschool student who has had her fair share of school lunches, a question that most likely poses on many minds is, “Is it really working?” Due to poor funding, outrageously strict requirements, and the want for convenience, many should ponder if all of this is really helping. It can very difficult to serve and satisfy a group of students when there is very little wiggle room. Since the year 2010, many schools nationwide have been under the reign of Michelle Obama’s Hunger-Free Kids Act. This act called for more whole grains, fruits and vegetables with less fat and sodium in student’s...

...Yummmmmm, school lunches, it includes a variety of rotten pizza, undercooked chicken, and the everyday cold lunch. The lunch ladies should pay us to eat lunch from their cafeteria. The lunch is horrible, disgusting, as well as awful. The school might as well make the meat a mystery, because I bet you, they’re lying. Just bring 100 snacks from home and you would still be eating healthier. Also, school lunches can easily make a young adolescent fall sick. I mean I only fell sick for two weeks, because of school lunches! Pursuing this further, I believe students should take lunch from home. Although you may think buying lunch from cafeteria is more convenient, think about your health. You may save room in your book bag, but its just one lunchbox. Being...

...Some of our school lunches are good, others are not. Some people like the lunches and others never eat school lunch. Last year I ate a lot of the school lunches. Perusasive Essay on School Lunches

...Think of what students are learning at school and how it affects their lives. School lunches can in turn, affect what students eat outside of school in a potentially hazardous way. This in turn can be a major hazard to many students in many ways. My school can improve its school lunch system in three ways. The three ways are: 1. to serve healthier and more nutritious meals, 2. to have more sanitary practices with the cafeteria workers, and 3. improve the seating arrangements in the cafeteria. My school cafeteria lunches serve meals that can potentially be dangerous to one’s health. On a typical day, we may have a Mexican pizza and corn. These are two carbohydrates and are not two good food choices or a balanced meal. My school offer salad and a fruit if you want to buy it; but as you know most middle schooler's will not choose to buy either. Fruit, salad, and a vegetable should not be an open option but part of balanced school lunch. Again, school cafeterias should provide healthier lunches for students. Schools need options for students that can in the end benefit their health. Providing healthier school lunches can decrease the obesity rate around not only at my school but around the world. Statistics say, “Healthy lunches would help decrease the rate of childhood obesity and health effects” (“School Lunches”). Secondly, my cafeteria should serve more sanitary foods. I say this because sometimes we find small human hairs in our food during lunch time. My friends and I find...

...Have you ever been at school, so hungry, then reach in your pockets and only have a dollar? I, personally have done this many times and thought in my head “I wish we had a food vending machine.” School lunches can be so expensive and they continue to rise about $0.30, or 12 percent, every year ( School Nutrition Association 2017 ). Elementary school lunches are, on average, $0.26 cheaper than high school lunches, but each are being fed the same amount of food. Even though 18 percent of 12 to 19 year olds are considered obese, schools should have a junk food vending machine in the halls because kids get hungry during the day, some lunches are too expensive, and more expensive for the schools to provide. Often times in middle school or junior...

On top of that these schools are offering the kids to buy junk food which is causing many of them to become obese. The U.S. government should change lunches in schools so that they have a more variety of fruits and vegetables and their lunches contain more nutrition. Schools today are allowing kids to buy junk food and many of them choose that instead of eating fruits and vegetables which gives them the...

...School lunches need to change for the better because everyday kids have complaints about them and even more kids around the world. So it's not just Zimmerman. The school lunches used to be decent until in 2012 when Barack Obama made a law called “The Healthy Hunger free kids act” which prevented unhealthy foods at schools. This helped reduce kids obesity, but the lunches are still gross and bad tasting. Even though they did get more fruits and vegetables the fruits are not fresh at all. For example the apples are hard as rocks and the vegetables taste like they’ve been out for weeks. I think it would be better if the school ordered subway or dominos once a week at least or a better provider because ours is very gross. Not only Zimmerman...

Wouldn’t you be heartbroken (and also hungry)? Well, unfortunately this is the case for may children all over the country. ...Do your kids ever come home complaining about how gross their lunch is? Do your kids ever come home starving because they didn’t eat at school? Well, these are common problems across America. Students complain about how they are not getting enough food at school, or how they don’t like the new food program. I remember when I was given cheap white bread instead of expensive multi wheat bread. This program is costing our schools money that they are not getting back. That brought me right to my first reasoning, schools are losing money in uneaten lunches. Also, if the school is providing salad bar as an alternative lunch it will cost money to provide what they need for it. When kids are refusing to eat lunch and bring their lunch, the...
