When people think of popularity, they think of having lots of friends. That is not the case in the book Schooled. The book Schooled by Gordon Korman demonstrates the central idea popularity. The central idea popularity is developed throughout the book schooled using the literary elements character and plot. The central idea of popularity is developed with the literary element characters in the novel Schooled by Gordon Korman. The character Naomi is popular. After the tie dye fest and the bird ceremony on page 81, Naomi says to Cap,” You’re the nice one.” This shows that Cap is gaining popularity and that Naomi is starting to appreciate Capricorn and seeing how innocent he is. A character who lacks popularity is Hugh Winkleman. Hugh would have been the 8th grade president if it hadn't been for Cap. The 8th grade president means you are on the bottom of the popularity list. First, on Cap’s school bus while Cap was getting picked on, Mr. Rodrigo was having a heart attack. Cap drove him to the hospital. This is a major plot event since it makes people change their thoughts about Cap. It made them want to talk to him more. After Cap got punched in the face, he went to the hospital and Rain took him home. Zach hosts a remember Cap party instead of the halloween dance. This is just to win the school over. At this remembrance party, the whole school showed up. It showed that he was so popular, the whole school came. Cap not only gained popularity, he gained their respect. Lastly, during the school pep rally Hugh put Cap into there school rival (Rhine-cliff) football jersey and sent him out on the field. The whole football team bulldozed him over. Hugh became jealous that Cap became popular. All of these plot points demonstrate the gradual growth in Cap’s popularity throughout the
