...Dr. Robert Cialdini and 6 principles of persuasion By Tom Polanski, EVP, eBrand Media and eBrand Interactive I have long been a big fan of Dr. Cialdini. I originally became familiar with his work years ago through, “Influence: The Psychology of Persuasion”. It’s a must read. It gave me useful tools to use for marketing to others and taught me how to resist the marketing efforts of others. Here is a reprint from a leading publication regarding his work and a new book he’s coauthored. It’s the cliff notes version of his original book which I referenced in the preceding paragraph. We talked to a renowned expert on the science of influence and pulled excerpts from two of his books to demonstrate ways to make people say “yes” to your messaging and management. Includes links to scientific studies and takeaways to use at work or at home. Robert Cialdini, Regents’ Professor of Psychology and Marketing, Arizona State University, has spent 30 years studying the ways people are influenced. He’s whittled his findings down to six key principles, found in the fifth edition of ‘Influence: Science and Practice’. We interviewed Cialdini and also read through ‘Yes! 50 Scientifically Proven Ways to Be More Persuasive’, a book he co-authored with Noah Goldstein, a professor at the University of Chicago School of Business, and Steven Martin,...

...unsure if we as a society have abandoned God or if he in turn have abandoned us. In a research conducted by “Harvard political scientist Robert Putnam on religion in American it was noted that between 30 to 40 percent of Americans within their 20s declares lack of religious affiliation”. (While faith and trust may still be present our younger generation is growing up away from the church. Within that same research some additional findings were as follows: “Two-thirds of former Catholics who have become unaffiliated and half of former Protestants who have become unaffiliated say they left their childhood faith because they stopped believing in its teachings, and roughly four-in-ten say they became unaffiliated because they do not believe in God or the teachings of most religions. Additionally, many people who left a religion to become unaffiliated say they did so in part because they think of religious people as hypocritical or judgmental, because religious organizations focus too much on rules or because religious leaders are too focused on power and money”. (http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/Story?id=7513343&page=1) I agree that society has changed the way that religion is conducted. Speaking from my own personal beliefs there are may times that I question whether religion and the church has moved away from the Bible. It seems to me that most mega churches that I visited are so concerned with political views and building the church that it lacks the focus of fellowship. Again...

...Ethics is? I myself have never thought of that question until this quarter. Ethics to me was always something that was moral and right. I would constantly hear people speaking with one another saying, oh no that is not ethical or yes that sounds ethical to me. I figured that they knew what they were saying and just went along with it. Before taking my ethics class I would also speak to my peers and say things like, that does not sound ethical or yes that is a very ethical thing to do. The question is; what is truly ethical? Isn’t everything ethical in a way, and according to who might this be ethical? These are the questions that we are thought to ask and to learn in ethics. I have learned that there are many types of ethics and they are all very different from each other and often disagree with one another. This paper clarifies some of the differences between different types of ethics that exist among us. WHAT IS ETHICAL 3 What is Ethical, and According to Whom? People all around the word are constantly using the word ethics or ethical incorrectly. This has started because most common people do not know the true meaning of ethics. ...CHAPTER ONE INTRODUCTION 1.0 Background OF THE STUDY Financial accountability is not complete without audit, which remains one of the most neglected and mis-understood areas of financial management. This could be traced to the crudeness of accounting methods used in the early stages of civilization where individuals check account by themselves. It is for this reason that the practice of audit has been accorded its rightful place with a view to imposing some system of check upon person whose business involves to record the receipt and disbursement of money on behalf of others. However, the need for audit mostly government account is precipitated by a number of issues. One of such issue is the size of the public sector, the financing of which have become very burdensome, especially with the fall in public revenue resulting from the change of circumstances of the international oil market. According to Asechemic (1999), the pervasive presence of public sector is due, in part, to the historical national condition of a weak private modern sector in the past colonial Nigerian economy. The economy activity of government arising from this historic condition has made the Nigerian public sector very large. A need to reduce the size of the public expenditure has become clear to many observers. The privatization and commercialization project in the structural adjustment programmers (SAP) is an office response to the call for a reduction of public sector spending. ...
