Nancy Shute, the author of “3 Ways Electronic Media Harm Kids' Health and 3 Ways They Can Help” spoke to Victor Strasburger, a professor at the University of New Mexico, about the worst ways electronic media can harm children’s health. Two of the issues he mentioned were younger children watching television and exposure to violent media. Shute wrote from her conversation with Strasburger that television does not help children under the age of two develop intellectually or socially, and studies have shown television in the early years is correlated to attention deficit hyperactivity disorder developing. They also discussed how exposure to drinking, smoking, and sex on screen can make those behaviors seem okay and cause teenagers to do risky things. In “Screen Addiction is Taking a Toll on Children,” Jane E. Brody says that, children who use electronic devices throughout most of their day develop a likelihood of violence, physical aliments and do poorly in school and that parents should have a limit to their child’s media usage.
