Literature survey and citation/ co-citation analysis are used to fulfil the research task. Literature survey has undertaken a thorough search of articles on selected journals relevant to supply chain operations management. Meanwhile, citation/co-citation analysis uses Web of Sciences database to disclose SCRM development between 1995 and 2009. Both the approaches show similar trends of rising publications over the past 15 years. This review has piloted us to identify and classify the potential risk associated with different flows, namely material, cash and information flows. Consequently, we identify some research gaps. Even though there is a pressing need and awareness of SCRM from industrial aspect, quantitative models in the field are relatively lacking and information flow risk has received less attention. It is also interesting to observe the evolutions and advancements of SCRM discipline. One finding is that the intellectual structure of the field made statistically significant increase during...

Introduction Cisco, the global information and communication technology provider, has put in place a supply chain resiliency program that any company facing possible risk from supply chain disruption should study. Cisco's program for SCRM combines tools, policies, practices and management support into a comprehensive system that enables the company to truly understand and manage the risks associated with the supply of most of its products. Beginning with new product design and introduction, and continuing through to current product manufacturing and fulfillment, Cisco can predict potential risk points and work with members of its supply chain to manage and minimize those risks. Further, Cisco can recover from external disruptions quickly to minimize the impact on its customers. Other companies should study what Cisco has done and, as appropriate, implement SCRM programs that allow them to manage supply chain disruptions as effectively as Cisco does. Note that a supply chain resiliency program does not negate the need for...

...Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to examine the constructs underpinning risk management and explores its application in the supply chain context through the development of a framework. The constructs of performance and risk are matched together to provide new perspectives for researchers and practitioners. Design/methodology/approach – The conceptual and empirical work in the supply chain management field and other related fields is employed to develop a conceptual framework of supply chain risk management (SCRM). Risk in the supply chain is explored in terms of risk/performance sources, drivers, consequences and management responses, including initial approaches to categorization within these. Two empirical cases are used to illustrate the application of the framework. Findings – A new framework is presented that helps to integrate the dimensions of risk and performance in supply chains and provide a categorisation of risk drivers. Research limitations/implications – SCRM is at an early stage of evolution. The paper provides a clarification of the dimensions and constructs within this field together with directions for future research and development. Practical implications – The focus on performance in terms of efficiency and effectiveness linked to risk drivers and risk management responses provides insights to managing and measuring risk in supply chains. Originality/value – The paper...

...Case Study: Cisco Addresses Supply Chain Risk Management This Case Study documents a presentation made at Gartner's Security and Risk Management Summit conference in 2010 on how Cisco manages the risks associated with supply chain disruptions. Gartner assesses Cisco's supply chain resiliency program as one of the better-executed programs we have seen, and recommends other clients study it to understand how they might "derisk" their own supply chains. CISCO’S SUCCES in SCRM Cisco's program for SCRM combines tools, policies, practices and management support into a comprehensive system that enables the company to truly understand and manage the risks associated with the supply of most of its products. Cisco managed to predict potential risk and points and work with members of supply chain to manage and minimize risks connected with with enviroment full of uncertainty. THE „RESILIENCY CHALLENGE” Cisco's business model is complicated, relying extensively on outsourced manufacturing for more than 95% of the >12,000 products it delivers, most of which are configure-to-order. Cisco sells to a broad range of customers from the private and public sector, and as Cisco expands its presence in the consumer sector (with products such as the Linksys line), it is seeing a growing presence of make-to-stock products. The company's growth strategy includes being highly acquisitive. It has made more than 140 acquisitions since its founding and is presently making three to...

...but supply networks may be a rather more precise term to describe the situation. However, the focus on achieving more efficient supply chains has rendered them more prone to disruptions (Jüttner, 2005). 2.3. Supply chain risk management (SCRM) Every SC is prone to risks that may affect its planned activities. The only difference is that different SCs are exposed to different magnitudes and types of risks. Generally, risk may be defined as any event that has a negative effect on the achievement of the company’s objectives (Routroy and Shankar, 2014). Therefore, companies do well to adopt a proactive approach in dealing with new and changing risks and vulnerabilities emerging within or influencing the system, if they seek to secure the mission of the supply chain system (Asbjornslett, 2008). Relevant threats and risks and possible scenarios have to be considered in order that the vulnerability of the supply chain system objectively established, and thereafter take deliberate steps to mitigate the adverse effects that these may have on the system. The risk-mitigation plans include initiatives that can be taken to reduce the impact of disruptive events in the first place (Drake, 2012). According to Grotsch, Blome & Schleper (2013), proactive SCRM focuses not only on identifying potential losses related to certain supply chain risks and determining their probability, but also on planning and operating adequate countermeasures before an incident occurs. The process of risk management...

...ANALYSIS OF SUPPLY CHAIN RISK MANAGEMENT IN THE GHANAIAN MANUFACTURING INDUSTRY: A CASE STUDY OF KAMA PHARMACEUTICAL MANUFACTURING COMPANY INTRODUCTION 1.0 Background of the Study According to Hendricks and Singhal (2005), there is increased awareness and recognition among managers, consultants and academicians that supply chain performance is increasingly important to business success. In other words, supply chain plays an important strategic role in the world economy and that firms are more dependent upon their supply chains networks in order to deliver value. Regrettably, there is also a point of vulnerability in the world economy which are subject to disruptions with significant consequences especially when the disruption comes suddenly, without warning, and with devastation. Handfield (2007) posit that the total set of risks to an organization is much broader. It includes hazard risk and operational risk. Hazard risks refer to weather disasters, equipment shutdown, or product liability, while operational risks include major disruptions such as theft, late supplier deliveries, and IT systems shutdowns and so on. For the purpose of this study, focus shall be placed on operational risk with specific focus on supply chain risk. Generally, supply chain operation is fundamental to the success of any organization. It is critical to a company’s ability to manage global operations, supply and demand volatility, the accelerated pace of new product and services introductions...

...effective and efficient reaction and response and be able to get well to their original or more perfect situation after disruption. In addition, it states that risk management in supply chain operation could not belittle. McKinsey survey, corporate officials (2010) shows that effective and helpful risk management is needed to resolve risks and estimated that the percentage of supply chain risks will rise in the future business environment. Then, most of corporate leaders must support and plan for risk management approach, and supply chain professionals carrying out effective risk management for predict challenges and risks in the future. In addition, Makharia et al. (2012) defined that the three basic stages of supply chain risk management (SCRM), there are proactive steps (before appearance disruption), reactive steps (during disruption moment), and post-recovery steps (after disruption). Collins (2008) after that describes these phases into detailed steps which is identify risks, find root causes, initiate change management strategy, manage performance, and execute formal evaluations. These division works can clearly to observe which risk management strategy is appropriate to reaction to a risk. Although risk management is important to any organization to solve risks, but the attention on business environment also have to look out and to ensure risk management strategies can maximizing the profits to organization. This paper discuss the importance of creation of supply chain network...

...Asosyalliği ile tanınan matematik ve bilgisayar delisi Mark Zuckenberg’in, Harward’ın alelade bir yurt odasında yarattığı ve sonraları Facebook’a dönüşecek olan algoritmanın hikayesini eminim çoğunuz biliyorsunuzdur. Hollywood tarafından The Social Network adıyla beyaz perdeye de aktarılan başarı hikayesinde Zuckenberg, belki kendisinin bile tahmin edemeyeceği küresel bir fenomen yaratıyordu. Eylül 2003’te ortaya atılan fikir, bugün Zuckenberg’i milyar dolarlık bir şirketin patronu haline getirdi. Üstelik zenginlik Zuckenberg’le sınırlı kalmadı. Gelişmeler zaman çizelgesinde sıraya konulduğunda, bugün sosyal medya olarak adlandırdığımız olguyu Zuckenberg’in Facebook’una bağlamak yanlış olur. 79’dan başlayıp 2000’li yılların ortalarına kadar geçen süreçte yaşanan gelişmeler, bir diğerini tetikleyen ve bir diğerine ilham kaynağı olan bir dizi teknolojik ilerlemelerden ibaret iken, Facebook’un aldığı yatırımlar ve sonrasında platforma entegre ticari uygulamaların gelişmesiyle birlikte yeni sosyal platformlar, yeni iş fikirleri, gelir modelleri, yeni iş tanımları, yeni sektörler ve yeni meslek grupları ortaya çıkmıştır. Facebook ve onun varlığının girişimcilere verdiği ilham, ağ üzerinde filizlenen ve hammaddesi kullanıcının yarattığı içerik...

...A Study of Apparel Supply Chain Risks Srikanta Routroy* and Arjun Shankar** Today, apparel supply chains are becoming more prone to both controllable and uncontrollable risks. This phenomenon may be attributed to many causes but not limited to less vertical integration, fragmentation of supply chain ownership, short product life cycle, ever-changing customer expectations, increasing level of competition, environmental regulations, rapid technology obsolescence, etc. These risks deteriorate directly the apparel supply chain performance in terms of both efficiency and responsiveness. Therefore, the Apparel Supply Chain (ASC) managers should identify and analyze the risks related to their supply chains so that appropriate mitigation strategies can be developed to enhance the supply chain performance. An attempt is made to study the ASC and identify the related risks in general. This will provide a platform to identify the risks for an apparel supply chain in particular. Introduction A Supply Chain (SC) may be defined as a network of organizations that are involved in a set of linkages, either upstream or downstream, in different processes and activities with the primary aim of providing value to the end customer (Chen et al., 2013). In this context, SC Management (SCM) is the management of material, information and funds through this network of organizations, which includes suppliers, manufacturers, wholesalers, distributors, etc., thereby providing the required value to the...
