...Ebenezer Scrooges childhood affects greatly on the man he becomes in later life. In his youth he was poor, abused by his father and lonely. At the start of the book we see Scrooge as a bitter old man who didn’t care about anyone but himself and money. But when the ghost of Christmas past takes Scrooge back we see that he was nothing like the man he is today. One of the main reasons why Scrooge is so mean is his father. He had an extremely lonely childhood as his father abused him and sent him to a boarding school. When we first see Scrooge in his past he is at the boarding school which is very rundown. "The school is not quite deserted," said the Ghost. "A solitary child, neglected by his friends, is left there still." This shows that not only was he lonely because of his father but also he had no friends and was neglected. Having a hard relationship with his father made him find it hard to connect to people and to have a loving relationship with someone. The only person who really cared for Scrooge was his sister who came to the school to bring with back home. At the start of the story we are introduced to Fred who Scrooges nephew. We later on learn that his mother died. “a little girl, much younger than the boy, came darting in, and putting her arms about his neck, and often kissing him, addressed him as her 'Dear, dear brother.” The death of Scrooges sister, Fan must have affected him greatly as she was the only one who was there for him. “'You are quite a woman, little...

...From the reading, I know that Scrooge is a dolorous and crabby man who is identified as all head no heart. Accordingly a tight-fisted hand at the grindstone kind of man is he accounting for every sterling. I know he hates Christmas by the response he gave to his nephew when he came to ask Scrooge to join his family for dinner. Fred, his nephew, says to Scrooge, “Christmas a humbug, you don’t mean that , I am sure.” Scrooge replies, “I do.” “Merry Christmas! What right do you have to be merry?” Fred ignores Scrooge’s contradictive response and continues to spread his joy by asking his uncle to join his family for dinner. On page six when carolers visited at his door, “Scrooge seized the ruler with such energy of action, that the singer...

...Based on what I read it sounds like to me that Scrooge is very grumpy. I say this because in the text I spotted the words, “Anyway, Scrooge turns out to be the grumpiest grumper that ever grumped.” Another thing I spotted in the text were the words, “And also he's pretty greedy.” One way out of a million ways I would describe Scrooge is that he is pretty sluggish and selfish, he, Scrooge only cares about himself and not others. He is an unpleasant friend to be around because of his attitude. According to the text he is all head and no heart. All head and no heart means he has no room in his heart because it's all taken up by Scrooge, he only cares about himself, and himself only.Scrooge is also thoughtless and lazy. The text says, “...Scrooge...

...lighting of the dvd better than the short story. In the short story you couldn’t see the people’s facial expressions or hear the creepy noises in the background. In chapter one some of the similarities are Scrooge’s nephew came in his workshop and told him “A Merry Christmas, uncle.” Scrooge and his nephew talk for a little bit. Scrooge left his workshop and walked to his house. Some of the similarities in chapter two are when Scrooge woke up, he started counting the clock for when the spirits would come. Marley’s spirits came and haunted Scrooge. They all went back in time. One similarity in chapter five would be Scrooge asked a boy, what the day was and asked him to go get a turkey and bring it back to him....

...hy did Scrooge agree with the board members? How were they going to make the payments? How will he face poverty again? Cratchit hoped Scrooge had a plan, because he didn’t. Although Christmas was two days away, it seemed so far now that the meeting had took place. Worries had replaced the joy and happiness in his heart. He was extremely tired from his day at work, and all he wanted to do was lie in bed. When he got home, he went straight to bed and immediately fell asleep. After a few hours, his wife woke him up. “Bob, you haven’t eaten. Come eat dinner,” Mrs. Cratchit said. “If you insist,” Cratchit replied. They ate together with their children as a family, and Bob Cratchit told them about his current situation with the financial problems....

...¨If there is no struggle there is no progress.¨ (Frederick Douglass) Change is sometimes difficult at first but, the outcome is plainly beautiful. Take for instance Scrooge. He underwent a wondrous change. People can change if they really try or through a certain experience. The novella used was A Christmas Carol written by Charles Dickens. Scrooge was a miserable, bitter old man. The author wrote, “Hard and sharp as flint, from which no steel had ever struck out generous fire; secret, and self-contained, and solitary as an oyster.” (pg. 2) This shows that Scrooge was selfish, silent, and lonely because he never cared for anybody but himself. On the night of Christmas Eve, a couple ghosts visited Scrooge and showed him his past, present, and...

...Scrooge was a person that wasn’t that hard to tell who he was. He was a person who didn’t care about anything besides himself. Throughout the story he portrayed himself in different ways. He was a person who envied negativity and money. Let’s see how Scrooge changed for the better. Scrooge had a very normal appearance. He had old skin with wrinkles, just like a normal old man. The way he carried himself also described who he was. He was a very grumpy and bitter old man. He never smiled, or showed any emotion besides bitterness. His appearance changed a lot. When he changed into a happy and understanding person his heart changed. That caused him to smile more and care himself in a happier way, then before. Scrooge’s appearance and ways...

...There were a lot of people talking about Ebenezer Scrooge, a man in town who had run the counting house for many years had died. According to the text, he was a squeezing, wrenching, grasping, scraping, clutching, covetous, old sinner! Based on what I read in the text, Mrs.Dibbler said “Who’s the worse for the loss of a few things like these? Not a dead man I suppose” She and Joe, the laundryman were rummaging through Scrooge’s remaining personal items. Most people would care about a dead man, but not this one. Scrooge hated every single person he saw in one day’s time and all others before that. He was so disliked when he did die that people were taking his stuff like it was really theirs because in the text Mrs.Dilber says “somebody...

...Changes in Ebenezer Scrooge Throughout the story “A Christmas Carol” there is a very apparent change in the main character Ebenezer Scrooge. He in some ways could be described as changing into a whole new, unrecognizable man. He is very cold hearted, hateful, greedy, and had no appreciation for Christmas at all when our story first starts. But after meeting three ghosts face to face, and getting a look at what could be, things really change him. ``Bah!'' and “Humbug!'' Were two very common words to hear coming from Ebenezer Scrooge at Christmas time. At the start of the story we see a man who is very greedy, and has a hate for Christmas and all who love it. We see Scrooge very rudely turn his nephew away, along with a man who wanted money. He even goes...
