Scrubs

Many people seem to think that many television shows destroy the brain, but as for numerous amounts of television shows actually depict a lesson to lure in an audience. Take the television show Scrubs. Written and directed by Ryan Levin, this comical series about a well-renowned hospital and its staff depict the everyday lives of four different characters. In this comical show that allows four friends to comment on their everyday lives about being a doctor, resident intern, and surgeon. A story line based on the comical genius of the producers of both South Park and Weeds. Follow me as I analyze both the good and bad aspects of all four of the characters tell their sides of the story through each others lines.

The storyline of many different television shows normally have exactly the same sequence of events. First, the scene is set in a hospital. But as many people do not know, Sacred Heart Hospital is no ordinary hospital. Here, everyone hates everyone in a sarcastic manner. All the employees hate the boss, the chief of medicine; Dr. Bob Kelso because he is some hypocritical, crazed maniac that cannot even once admit that he really needs friends or loves his wife. As for the maintenance staff is concerned, the only person who actually is involved inside the lives of all four friends, the crazed Janitor, known as Janitor, takes all matters into his own hands when he begins his need for chaos with J.D. As for everyone else, they sort of just go along with absolutely everything that happens between the four friends and their crazed adventures.

In the beginning of this storyline, we start with a young intern just beginning the fresh out of college with the job he dreamed about. In the series J.D. is depicted as a sensitive guy with many amounts of feelings. John Dorian is a crazy guy who is both afraid of commitment, but completely in love with his friend Elliot Reed who is also an intern at the same hospital. Many aspects of his personality are portrayed through his actions. John is man who wants what he cannot have. Throughout the series we see John depict his hatred of commitment by the many trials and heartbroken one-night-stands. Dorian is depicted as guy that honestly just wants to be loved, starting with his brother Dan to the death of his father. Dorian is always going to be this crazy sensitive guy that is so afraid of commitment that he will hurt anyone in his path to avoid the thought of it. As his best friend attempts to help him through all the emotional trials and the crazed sensitivity needs, their friendship will be one of those that actually instill the values of a friendship through the lines of a television show.

Elliot Reid is an intern just like John Dorian. She is a young, cute, nervous woman who is very sensitive about her eye brows. Her mom was an alcoholic, cold, and always telling her that the world is all about your appearance and looking perfect. Her dad originally wanted a boy first, but instead her family had a girl. He basically rose as if she was a boy which is why she has her name. She has four brothers that messed with her, and that is why she is so strong but also sacred of failing. Although many of her attributes are a bit unlucky considering she is oddly shaped girl from Connecticut, she still manages to allow herself time for composure. Filling this constant need for attention is what she fills with the crazy, narcotic one-night-stands, followed by breakdowns in the maintenance hallways. Throughout many of Elliot’s trials and tribulations, she manages to hook up with J.D. This in turn leads to the crazed best friend who at some point becomes closer to Elliot then her best friend Carla, who happens to be J.D’s best friend’s wife. This leads to one of the most famous lead character that can only be none other than Christopher Duncan Turk

Christopher Turk is intern surgeon at Sacred Heart Hospital. He is a black muscular athlete. He thinks that he is invisible until his sweet tooth caught up with him. He ends up getting type two diabetes. Although Turk claims to be invincible, he knows just as well as J.D. that his one weakness aside from sweets is his lovely wife Carla. Who in the beginning did not want to give Turk the time of day. His best friend is the one and only J.D and they spend most half their day together. J.D. and Turk, roomed together as college dormies, and then again as interns. Although the two have a spectacular friendship, J.D. and Turk have always had competition with each other. Whether it is between women and sports to a down right eating contest; eventually though, Turk gets married to Carla and they ask J.D. to move out their apartment. J.D. moves in with Elliot because she is in desperate need of someone to help pay rent and is always in dear need of a friend.

One of the most known characters on the show Scrubs is Dr. Perry Cox. Cox is an alcoholic with manic depressant behaviors. Cox takes the actions of all the characters and throws them all into one giant bundle. Perry Cox is one of those narcissistic bad people that you know deep inside honestly wants to be loved. J.D. being the sensitive guy that he is chooses Cox to be his role model. Knowing that Cox is not the sensitive guy that J.D. wishes he was, he chooses to try everything in his power to get Cox to hug him. Although Cox comes off as one of those evil people that you just want to hit in the face, he is a good doctor. From his actions on television being a good doctor means more than just trying to please every patient you have. It is about sticking to your guns and manning up. Even though Cox chooses to establish well ahead of time that he is a short-tempered doctor with a divorced ex-wife that makes him crazier than he already is. Cox still in the end allows himself to accomplish everything without hesitation.

Many people seem to think that many television shows destroy the brain, but as for numerous amounts of television shows actually depict a lesson to lure in an audience. Getting the attention of an audience is what draws a crowd to see a show, hear music, or even allow the viewer to see a performance. Lessons throughout this show allow the audience to be allured by the characters. Take Turk and J.D. these two best friends have been through absolutely everything together and have allowed themselves to stay so together through thick and thin. The many lessons learned throughout all nine seasons of this show will give you good advice and a good laugh when all is said and done.

Mediterranean Scrub Biome Paper

...MEDITERRANEAN SCRUB Mediterranean forests, woodlands, and scrub biome, as defined by the World Wildlife Federation, is known for dry summers and rainy winters. Summers are typically hot in low-lying inland locations but can be cool near colder seas and oceans. Winters are typically mild to cool in low-lying locations but can be cold in inland and higher locations. The Mediterranean forests, woodlands, and scrub biome occurs in the world's five Mediterranean climate zones, on the west coast of continents in the mid-latitudes, the Mediterranean Basin, Chilean Mattoral,  California chaparral and woodlands ecoregion of California and the Baja California Peninsula, Western Cape of South Africa, and last but not least the Southwest Australia corner area. These regions are home to a great amount diversity of habbitats and species. Vegetation types range from forests to woodlands, savannas, shrublands, and grasslands; landscapes are common, where differing vegetation types are interleaved with one another in complicated patterns created by modifications in soil, exposure to wind and sun, and fire history. Much of the woody vegetation in Mediterranean-climate regions is sclerophyll, which means 'hard-leaved' in Greek. Sclerophyll vegetation generally has small, dark leaves covered with a waxy outer skin to retain moisture in the dry summer months. All these ecoregions are extremely distinctive, harboring 10% of the Earth's plant species. This is equivalent to about 40% of...

Restoration

...Evaluation of the Ecological Restoration Projects at The University of California, Santa Barbara’s Lagoon Authors: Matthew Edmiston Cat Bradley Chris Anderson Abstract: The University of California, Santa Barbara’s lagoon has undergone several ecological restoration projects over the past two decades. Some efforts have proven to be beneficial, while others still need improvement. This paper addresses and evaluates five different locations around the lagoon, the various restoration projects at the sites, and what more could be done at each habitat in order to assess the ecological restoration efforts in the UCSB Campus Lagoon area. The sites addressed are the San Nicolas degraded wetlands, Campus Point, the coastal sage scrub, Manzanita Village and the bioswales. Overall, each of the sites have finished going through extensive  restoration, with techniques such as solarization and re-introduction of native species. Most of the ecosystems are now returned to their pre-disturbed state, but continued efforts are needed to preserve the locations. 1.0 Introduction: The term “ecological restoration” is generally defined as “the return of an ecosystem to a close approximation of its condition prior to disturbance” (NRC Report, 1992). Although this term is often oversimplified, it includes a complex web of cultural, social and political aspects as well as environmental aspects. Due to its complexity, and in many cases, the many competing jurisdictions involved, it is often...

Hospital Scrubs Are a Gearmy, Deadly Mess

...Editorial Analysis In her article "Hospital Scrubs Are a Germy, Deadly Mess," Betsy McCaughey warns that unclean hospital uniforms endanger not only patients, but can also endanger the general public. McCaughey notes that this is because medical personnel can be seen wearing their scrubs while they shop, eat, are on public transportation, and will even wear them at home. McCaughey is certain that many people do not realize how many germs are contained on the average doctors/nurses uniform and explains that “superbugs” could possibly transport into public places such as restaurants and public transit. The infection called “Clostridium difficile” (C. diff) is a good example of such a “bug.” McCaughey, who is chair of the Committee to Reduce Infection Deaths, builds her case by citing reliable sources and studies. For example, she indicates that the National Hospital Survey released in November warns that “C. Diff” infections are spreading rapidly and that “nearly half a million people a year in the U.S.” have become infected. McCaughey also gives statistics from the University of Maryland that 65% of professionals confessed that they wash their uniform less than one time per week and the other 15% change their uniform less than once a month. McCaughey demonstrates ethos throughout her article by constantly giving the reader factual information on clostridium difficile. McCaughey points out that C. diff is difficult to contain within a hospital environment and states...

...found anywhere else. There are also many nonnative plants that have become a part of the scenery in California. The best way to understand the state’s vegetation is to first understand the floristic provinces. In North America there are 12 floristic provinces with four of those found in California (Map #1). California itself has five major biomes, some of which can be found at RSABG. Four of them are in the California floristic province and the fifth is in both the Great Basin and the Sonoran floristic province. Each of which contains many different types of communities in them. The California floristic province has the coniferous forest biome, the oak woodland biome, the grassland and marshland biome, and the chaparral and coastal sage scrub biome. The Great Basin and Sonoran floristic province has the desert scrublands and woodlands biome. All of the five biomes (Map #2) in California have different climates. The Coniferous forest is highland with a cool or warm Mediterranean, while the Oak woodlands is semi-arid, but also has a cool or warm Mediterranean. The Chaparral and coastal sage biome is very similar to the Grasslands and marshland biome in that they both semi-arid, but the chaparral also has a warm Mediterranean. The Desert scrublands and woodlands depending on which province it is found in are either semi-arid or arid. The fan palm oasis (Picture #2) is found within the desert woodlands portion of the desert...

Surgical Scrubbing

...infections on patients who are undergoing surgery. All hospitals should follow specific protocols on how to perform a surgical scrub in order to prevent surgical site infections. The purpose of this study was to see which circulating nurse had the least amount of bacteria on their hands after the initial scrub depending on what they used to scrub their hands. This study was conducted on 60 circulating nurses. There was one control group and two test groups. The control group used 3 ml of chlorhexidine gluconate 4% only, one group used the same product but with a nail pick, and the last group used the same product but with a nail brush. The samples from their hands were obtained at 2 different times: immediately before the scrub and 1 hour after the surgical scrub. The control group who did not use the pick or the brush were the ones that had the least amount of bacteria on their hands. To follow were the nurses that used the pick then the brush. The findings did indicate that there is no significant difference on performing the scrub alone. However, it did indicate that the scrub alone, without the pick or the brush, was the most effective in reducing bacteria for a surgical scrub. Reference Alcan, Aliye O. & Korkmaz, Fatma D. (2012). Deer Moss Habitat Research Paper

...Lyonia Preserve is a great example of an inland scrub habitat. All though a majority of the area was roller chopped and prepared to be burned, it still displayed all the necessary characteristics of an oak scrub habitat. Throughout the semester we have discussed many times the importance of fire in a habitat and how fire actually maintains the area but this was the first time we have actually been able to see man’s role in the maintenance. Roller chopping approximately 25% of the area and allowing the brush to dry seems to be key element in the maintaining of this habitat. From the areas that we explored it appeared that the Lyonia Preserve had not been burned in quite some time. The fire regime for this type of habitat typically is every 10 to 15 years, this spacing allows the oaks to regrow and...

Professional Nursing Boundaries

...I am a trained nurse working in one of major reference hospital in a capital city of Sabah. I have 14 years experience working as a trained perioperative nurse in operating theatre. Working through the years gives me ample experience in this field. Over this year, the workforce development in health care system has change the nursing profession and become more challenging. These changes had affected the nursing role and also their boundaries. Extending nursing role has happened in order to improve patient care. In Malaysia, registered nurses had given a credentialing to be able to undertake a wider range of clinical activity. The National Council of State Boards of Nursing has stated that definition of professional boundaries are the spaces between the nurses power and apply the following concepts are a spaces between nurses and a patient, nurses and doctor and also to other healthcare worker. College & Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta stated in their article “professional boundaries separate therapeutic behavior which well intentioned or not could lessen the benefit of care clients, families and communities”. Professional boundaries is a guideline for all nurses to perform their work as a professional without violent or crossing the limit of responsibility. Nurses need to practice and consistent with professional standards. Maintaining appropriate boundaries controls these power differentials and allows for a safe connection between the professional...

CoolSchool’s main production area is school uniforms. This is a seasonal product as they deliver their products to schools a week before the start of the school year. Scrubs produces uniforms for hospital staff. Both companies have consulted with their financial department and received a report stating the benefits of the merger. However, there is some concern with respect to the differences in managerial accounting procedures. The main differences are stated below. Orders CoolSchool: CoolSchool delivers to a fixed number of schools each year. The schools provide CoolSchool with the exact enrolment number two weeks before the start of school year. Since it takes more than a week to produce all the uniforms, CoolSchool uses last year’s enrolment number for each school to start production, when the final number comes in two weeks before start of term the company compares the production to the final number and produces extra if necessary. If they have made too many uniforms they keep them until the next year, assuming the uniform logo, colours... do not change. Scrubs: Scrubs delivers to a fixed number of hospitals. Nursing Image

...unforgotten. A person is perceived based on a variety of factors. One of the most important factors in perception is clothing. In nursing, wearing of scrubs is almost universal. The majority of nurses have the privilege of deciding what scrubs they will wear to work on any given day. Is any consideration given to the patient’s perception of them when the nurse chooses their attire? A study conducted by (Wocial, 2010) at two Midwestern health care centers addressed this thought by researching the question: Does a nurse’s uniform impact the patient’s perception of nurse professionalism? Families want nurses to be easily identifiable and for the uniform to promote a relaxed atmosphere, (Wocial, 2010). The purpose of the Uniform research study is to evaluate the public’s perception of the nursing uniform and its impact on perceived patient care. According to the authors, patient and visitor perception of satisfaction with care delivery and environment are important quality measures. According to (Wocial, 2010), previous studies on nursing uniforms failed to solely depict nurses in different scrubs but showed nurses in suggestive interactions with different accessories in various poses. (Wocial, 2010) further declared that it is not possible to determine results on the nurse’s uniform color and style due to other unique features. The scrub patterns presented varied from small print to large, and included solids for both the tops and bottoms. (Wocial, 2010) addressed the issue of looking...

Product Evaluation

...on different brands of paper towels that are sold in stores throughout the world. Just because a certain brand of a product may cost more than a competing brand, it does not mean that it will give you better results than the other brands or that it will be the best at what you need it for. Paper towels were evaluated on cost, absorbency, and scrub strength (Cary I. Sneider and Jacqueline Barber). Cost was calculated by cost per square foot, absorbency by 11x12 inch section that was dipped into water then squeezed into a measuring cup, and scrub strength was measured by how many times it could be rubbed over tile when wet(“Paper Towels That Clean Up.”). Brands to be discussed are Bounty, Viva, and Scott. To begin with Viva, “the answer to life’s little messes”, (“Paper Towels That Clean Up.”) faired a bit on the pricy side at $.052 per square foot and $2.89 per roll. This brand also had the least amount of square feet per roll with 55.6ft. Not all bad comes from the Viva brand, though. It came in second place in the absorbency round with retaining 42 ml of water. In the scrub test, this brand also placed second with being able to scrub an area 77 times before becoming unusable. Next, we moved on to Bounty, "the quicker picker-upper",(“Paper Towels That Clean Up.”) which comes in second place overall of the three evaluated brands. Bounty costs slightly...

History of Nursing

...How Does Knowledge of the Foundations and History of Nursing Provide a Context in Which to Understand Current Practice? Identify at Least Three Trends in Nursing Practice. How Have These Trends Influenced Your Perspective of Nursing Practice? In answering the above question, my thought immediate goes to, “You don’t know where you’re going unless you know where you’ve been or come from.” “The American Association for the History of Nursing (AAHN) is a professional organization open to everyone interested in the history of nursing. The purpose of the Association shall be to foster the importance of history as relevant to understanding the past, defining the present, and influencing the future of nursing.” [ (About AAHN, 2007) ] The history of nursing and knowledge of foundations allows us an opportunity to ask why & then obtain answer(s) for current practices via documented evidence. This knowledge propels an individual from a level of ignorance to a focused level of education. Awareness of historical practices and events better assists us in understanding the why’s within this profession, we call registered nurse. Having knowledge of the foundations and history of nursing helps nursing practice today because it shows not only how far we have come in healthcare and nursing but also how important education has been and still is for nurses.
