...LECTURE 7: BLACK–SCHOLES THEORY 1. Introduction: The Black–Scholes Model In 1973 Fisher Black and Myron Scholes ushered in the modern era of derivative securities with a seminal paper1 on the pricing and hedging of (European) call and put options. In this paper the famous Black-Scholes formula made its debut, and the Itˆ calculus was unleashed upon the world o 2 of finance. In this lecture we shall explain the Black-Scholes argument in its original setting, the pricing and hedging of European contingent claims. In subsequent lectures, we will see how to use the Black–Scholes model in conjunction with the Itˆ calculus to price and hedge all manner of o exotic derivative securities. In its simplest form, the Black–Scholes(–Merton) model involves only two underlying assets, a riskless asset Cash Bond and a risky asset Stock.3 The asset Cash Bond appreciates at the short rate, or riskless rate of return rt , which (at least for now) is assumed to be nonrandom, although possibly time–varying. Thus, the price Bt of the Cash Bond at time t is assumed to satisfy the differential equation dBt (1) = rt Bt , dt whose unique solution for the value B0 = 1 is (as the reader will now check) t (2) rs ds . Bt = exp 0 The share price St of the risky asset Stock at time t is assumed to follow a stochastic differential equation (SDE) of the form (3) dSt = µt St dt + σSt dWt , where {Wt }t≥0 is a standard Brownian motion, µt is a nonrandom (but not necessarily...

...Analysis of Blanche tragic life Abstract : As one of the most important play writers of America after the World War Ⅱ, Tennessee Williams won lots of theatrical awards for his masterpiece A Streetcar Named Desire. As a result, Blanche, the heroine in the play, had been the focus point of the critics. This thesis tries to analyze profoundly the cause of the tragedy of Blanche from several aspects .As Williams T concluded, ‘The heroine Blanche was struggling between reality and fantasy, finally, her spirit was broken drastically under the beat of ruthless reality. She was the typical weak woman and victim in the patriarchal society. Her tragedy shows that the woman can’t escape the control of the typical patriarchal society in any case of resistances.’(Williams, 2).Some of William’s points will be elaborated in this paper which includes four parts. Chapter one serves as an “introduction”, which gives a general review of main characters in the novel. Chapter two, “Character of Blanche” ,Blanche’s being trapped by the conventionality; Blanche’s illusion about men; Blanche’s illusion about herself; her husband’s suicide; Stanley’s rude behavior and sense of dominance; Stella’s betrayal; Mitch’s desertion and the cold realistic world. In conclusion, it is the Blanche’s illusion about men ,herself and cruelty of Stanley that mainly causes her tragedy. Keywords: tragedy conventionality illusion 1.Introduction 1.1 Review of the protagonist In Tennessee Williams' "A Streetcar...

Ash: How It Forms

...Dust Ash as Partial Replacement for Cement in the Production of Sandcrete Hollow Blocks A. A. Raheem and O. K. Sulaiman Civil Engineering Department, Ladoke Akintola University of Technology Ogbomoso, Nigeria. Abstract This study investigates the use of Saw Dust Ash (SDA) as partial replacement for ordinary Portland cement (OPC) in sandcrete blocks. Some units of sandcrete hollow blocks were produced by partially replacing the cement content with 5% to 25% by weight of SDA, using vibrating block moulding machine. Sandcrete blocks without SDA serve as the control. The blocks produced were tested to determine their density, compressive strength and water absorption rate. The results indicated that compressive strength of sandcrete hollow blocks at 28 days are 2.16N/mm2, 1.94N/mm2, 1.64N/mm2, 1.59N/mm2,1.39N/mm2, and 1.25N/mm2 for Control, 5%, 10%, 15%, 20% and 25% SDA contents respectively. At 56 days, the compressive strength of blocks with 5% and 10% SDA replacement are 2.33N/mm2 and 2.04N/mm2 respectively, both of which surpassed the required standard of 2.00N/mm2 specified by the National Building Code (2006) for non-load bearing walls. It was concluded that only sandcrete blocks with up to 10% SDA replacement can be used for non-load bearing walls. cement will definitely reduce the cost of production of sandcrete hollow blocks and ultimately that of the building. In order to reduce the price of cement to be consumed in mortar, sandcrete hollow blocks and concrete production...
