Question set 1 for Rent 1. Who was responsible for the eviction notices? Why was this happening? What were you first impressions of this character? The landlord’s stepson is responsible for the eviction notices. This was happening because they did not pay last year or the current year’s rent. I felt that the character had a carefree spirit but also had a heart that was in the right place.
2. What happened to Collins? How did he meet Angel? What did they realize that they had in common? Collins was attacked and beat down in an alley. He met Angel when he was coughing in the alley and Angel came for assistance. They both have Aids.
3. What was Maureen protesting? Why did she leave Mark? What was your reaction to the reason? Protesting to save the city blocks from being bought from investors. She left Mark for another woman. It was very surprising to me.
4. Why wouldn’t Roger leave the apartment? What happened to him? What song did he sing that described it?
Roger has been mourning the death of his girlfriend April. He also has Aids so he wants to create a lasting song before he dies.
5. Describe the mood and innuendoes in the song “Light my Candle”.
The mood is playful as well as flirtatious as the character meets a girl asking to light her candle since her heat is out.

His relationship is distant with limited interaction with them. He screens his calls so he doesn’t have to talk to them.
7. Why did Collins leave MIT?
They expelled him for his theory about actual reality.
8. How did Angel get the money for the Christmas Cheer that he and Collins brought? Were you surprised in his change of character from when he was first introduced?
She got rid of a dog that was annoying the neighbor. I was not surprised by his character at all from the way he spoke to Collins in the alley.
9. Where were Angel and Collins going on Christmas Day? What did they say was the reason for the meeting? What was Roger’s reaction to being invited to go? They were invited to go to a support group meeting at a local community center so to find comfort in one other. Roger declines the offer with momentary sadness on his face.
10. What did Mimi do for a living? Why was she shaking?
She is a stripper at a club called “Cat Scratch” and was shaking from her heroin addiction.
