S.E Hinton and the Outsiders Outline

I. Introduction a. S.E Hinton (1950-present) is a popular author due to her publishing of the book The Outsiders, Hinton’s books are based upon young teenagers. The Outsiders deals with a group of young boys called Greasers who have a rivalry with another group called the Socs; however, the main character Ponyboy deals with something traumatic that makes him reevaluate his life. b. The Outsiders is a piece of work that needs to be researched more because in S.E Hinton’s works, it is her best book that she had written. S.E Hinton has written books that centers on the lives of teenage groups that are delinquents and deals with high schools culture during the 1960 has but mostly deals with the issue of teenage rebellion, which remains an important aspect in young adult life in present day.

II. Body Paragraphs c. Susan Eloise Hinton was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma, on July 22, 1948 and has resided there for most of her life. Hinton claims that she knew even at a young age that she wanted to be a writer. Enthralled by cowboys and horses, she credits her love of reading for her success as a writer. Feeling that she had read all that was available on her two favorite subjects, she began to write her own reading material. Two books were written on cowboys and horses, but only for the eyes of young Hinton. d. Since, Pony Boy’s life is on the edge all the time throughout the book. First, we come to find out that Pony Boy’s parents were killed in a car accident not too long ago. Pony Boy was being taken care of by his older brothers. Pony Boy breaks societies set beliefs when he smokes and drinks at such a young age, and living in a household without any sort of control.
