...Midterm Essay – Searching for Life on Mars Is there other life in the universe? The answer to this question has eluded man since he began asking it. Whole philosophies and religions are based on the idea of the answer to that question being either yes or no. In the following we will be discussing a brief background of the habitability of Mars. Then we will discuss an outline of a mission to Mars to search for primitive life. First of all, a brief background of the habitability of Mars. Approximately 3.8 billions years ago, it is thought that Mars was a much warmer place, had a much dense atmosphere and possibly sustained liquid oceans. The probability of life existing in those conditions is much higher than they are today. Mars is now very cold, dry and has a thin atmosphere. This means that the only life which could exist today is primitive microbial life. So how can we find this life? To answer this question a detailed outline of a mission to Mars will be presented. What will we be looking for and where are we looking? Life, Mars. That is the short and sweet answer but it is much more complicated than that. When Mariner 4 flew past Mars it was only looking for evidence of water canals to support ideas of complex life existing on Mars. After returning a barren rocky landscape the notion of complex life was thrown out the window. Since then missions like Viking 1 and 2 have been conducted searching for microbial life. It returned only results which pointed to contamination...

...citizen with 152 people. There were 38 Malaysian passengers and the remaining was from 13 different countries. Malaysia Airlines bear the expenses to bring the family members of the passenger to Kuala Lumpur and providing them with medical care and also counseling. Altogether, 115 family members of the Chinese passenger flew to Kuala Lumpur while other family members choose to remain in China, fearing that they might feel isolated in Malaysia. The search and rescue (SAR) involved the multinational effort. The SAR start at the Gulf of Thailand and South China Sea and extended to the Strait of Malacca and Andaman Sea. However, based on military radar data, they concluded that the aircraft had diverted from its route. This causes the shift in searching area of the SAR to the Indian Ocean. The SAR effort shows disappointment as there was no rigid evidence on the MH370 exact situation. Many speculations raised and caused depression to the passenger’s family members. They are patiently hoping for news that can confirm their families’ condition. Each and every one of them was praying to hear news that can answer all the suspicious in their mind. Finally, on 24th of March 2014, Malaysia Prime Minister had announced that Flight MH370 is assumed to have gone...

...are many organizations or shelters that take in animals to save them and help them get adopted. Most organizations have a mission statement to help you understand why or how they are helping animals in need. They may start out by saying, “our mission statement is,” “our mission is to” or something different. For example; “Our mission is to shelter and care for stray and surrendered companion animals within our community; Prevent cruelty to animals; reunite lost animals with their owners, adopt animals to qualified homes or place them with reputable rescue organizations; and to educate the public about responsible animal ownership and population control (Thank).” Another example would be; “Our mission is to promise the No-Kill Philosophy within the Clovis/Portales area. We strive to provide the animals in the city of Clovis and city of Portales Animal Shelters with unprecedented exposure and marketing, fulfilling a key aspect of No-Kill. We also pro most to use of rehoming, retention, behavior training, 100% spay/neuter, microchips/tags, and another method that prevents or avoids an animals being surrendered to the shelter or picked up as stray (Hope).” When people are wanting to adopt an animal, looking at mission statements would help people pick the best place, for whose mission meets their requirements. Those are just a couple of examples of what a mission statement would be like from a good Prince organization helping rescue and rehome animals. When someone has rescued an...

...Reflection 1 Short Reflection Paper Marqus L. Harris INF 103 Thomas Hennefer September 3, 2012 Reflection 2 Searching for information on Google is like trying to find a needle in a haystack. Is that true? Was the library of the 19th century more efficient? Explain. How is searching in a specific database, such as Ashford’s library, different from searching in Bing, Google, or Yahoo? The founder of Wikipedia has a noble mission – to share the entire world’s information with everyone everywhere, anytime. In what ways has this mission been successful? In what ways has it not been successful? It is defiantly a tough challenge when trying to research certain information that is needed. In my personal opinion I consider it to be a very tough task indeed. Once the information is gathered from Google, then the part of trying to determine is the information is accurate, credible, or more reliable to put in a research paper. Google is the main and most popular website for information, but yet you will at times still come across some misleading information that is not allowed for academic research papers. The web at times can mislead us with certain information missing and misconceptions. Belgian lawyer Paul Otlet in the 19th century understood that each profession was experiencing a substance growth of data. Science was above all the drawback as a result of the increasing publications of such. Otlet...

...be erupting with plumes of water more than 20 times the height of Mt. Everest. Artist concept of the Europa Jupiter System Mission Artist concept of the Europa Jupiter System Mission Although its distance prevents any life from developing on the surface, the American Geophysical Union states that many scientists feel that a deep ocean lies beneath the icy-miles thick shell that covers Europa. It’s hypothesized that the moon is heated from within from the friction that is caused by Jupiter’s gravitational pull on Europa’s core. As a result, there is a possibility that the water there may have the right chemistry to sustain some very basic aquatic life. The recently discovered water vapors make searching for life much easier because instead of having to land there with heavy borer rigs loaded onto a large, expensive spacecraft to collect a water sample, a probe can now just fly into the vapor, suck some of it in and analyze it. Honestly, I don’t feel like a mission to Europa is a great idea when we haven’t even made it to Mars yet. The mission is estimated to cost $4.7 billion and the evidence that there is any water on Europa is nothing more than a speculation at best at the moment. Also, a lot of NASA’s resources are currently being utilized in order to push for a man mission to Mars. The budget is simply nonexistent and especially not toward a mission that doesn’t have any kind of conclusive...

...doctrine, style of worship and mission. American Baptists partake in two ordinances: believers’ baptism and The Lord’s Supper. Baptism, an act of full immersion following Christ’s example, is undertaken by those spiritually mature enough to understand its profound, symbolic significance: resurrection to new life in Christ. Through The Lord’s Supper, or Holy Communion, the bread and cup that symbolize the broken body and shed blood offered by Christ recall God’s great love for us—just as they did for the disciples on the eve of Christ’s crucifixion. American Baptists believe that the committed individual Christian can and should approach God directly, and that individual gifts of ministry should be shared. American Baptists hold that all who truly seek God are both competent and called to develop in that relationship. They have rejected creeds or other statements that might compromise each believer’s obligation to interpret Scripture under the guidance of the Holy Spirit and within the community of faith. American Baptists also celebrate the special gifts of all believers, testifying that God can use each of us in ministry. American Baptists take seriously the call to evangelism and missionary work. This is an attribute that corresponds to the book, Heaven’s Kitchen, by Courtney Bender. At God’s Love We Deliver their mission is to help people suffering with AIDS in New York by cooking and delivering meals to them. American Baptist worldwide mission work is a response to Christ’s...

...Mission Mission represents the framework for the entire business , the values which drive the company and the belief that the company has in itself and what it can achieve. Mission has 2 diversities: strategic and philosophic. The strategy school views mission as a strategic tool, an intellectual discipline which defines the business’s commercial rationale and target market. It is perceived as first step in strategic management. It has to answer two fundamental questions: WHAT IS OUR BUSINESS and WHAT SHOULD IT BE?
