The Worst Trip to Disneyland

It was a cloudy, rainy day that wasn’t starting out great for me. I sat up in the same bed I'd slept in for the past four days and the first thought that ran through my head was, June 29. Today I leave New York with my mom, stepdad, step brother, and I, had spent the last week in the state of New York the first three in Long Island for a golf tournament and the last four in the city. I hadn't done half the things I'd wanted to do nor had I seen half the things I wanted to see, but everything must come to an end and so this trip must to, as much as I didn't want it to or so I thought... We didn't even need to leave the city for the airport until noon, so we went to go see the massive library in the middle of Manhattan. Too early, it was time to head back to the hotel and grab our baggage before grabbing a taxi to the airport.
At the airport, we got all checked in and passed security without any issues. At the gate, the four of us sat in the plush black chairs. About fifteen minutes before we were scheduled for departure, the flight attendants called our seat numbers and we filed onto the plane. In our seats, we carefully stowed our carry-ons and lightly fought over the window seat. The rest of the plane boarded, we were all buckled in, and were just waiting for the flight attendant to come and explain the safety features so we could be in the air. After about fifteen minutes of waiting about five minutes after our scheduled departure we weren't too worried about being behind schedule. Apparently, though, we should have, because just then, over the loud speaker, one of the flight attendants started talking to us.
First, he introduced himself and then went onto say, we are sorry, but we're having some technical difficulties with the plane. Maintenance is coming and we'll tell you more when we know more. So, we sat on the plane for two

Knowledge Is Enlightenment, Necessary for Evolution

...Knowledge is the Enlightenment, Necessary for Evolution: In Plato’s, “The Allegory of the Cave,” he is explaining in dialogue with question-and- answer form with Glaucon a student questioning the nature of human beings. The analogy of the cave and the prisoners within used to explain his belief. He discusses moral and philosophical problems; the prisoner must overcome to see the light after long periods of imprisonment. The light he refers to as a fire blazing at a distance, is the light the prisoners see while a low wall is along the way. The prisoner look over the wall to find strange images that he has never seen before is compelled immediately to look toward the light. The question then is would the prisoner suffer pain from the glare brought forth by the light, Plato then explains he will require to grow accustom to the light in order to clearly see the new images. Once the prisoner becomes accustom to the sight of the upper world, he will then see the reflection of others and of himself. Plato then explains the reaction the prisoner makes and his thoughts of himself to realize the reason about his own place. The prisoner, as Plato explains, realized that this exposure of new images in the upper world are not of what he was taught to be true in his old place in the den, and the wisdom brought forth by the den along with his fellow- prisoners; merely false notions. The truth the prisoner has seen in the upper world will then become a desire to continue to seek further the...

Commercial Parking as an Investment

...Introduction Investors are consistently looking for the perfect investments, those that yield particularly both safety and substantial returns. To obtain both of these factors in today’s market is very possible, but how does one hedge the risk involved with obtaining such an investment. To find such growth and generous yield, we must settle for investment vehicles that are extremely risky such as indeterminate emerging markets or foreign bonds. At the same time, do these investments guarantee the safety that we as investors are comfortable having? In times of uncertainty like today’s market has bred, we must look towards alternative investments that are capable of hedging risk while yielding a more than reasonable return. One alternative real estate investment that has attracted investors for many years in the United States is the commercial parking industry. Commercial parking as an investment is virtually a recession proof investment due to the nature of its industry. Although the industry demand is driven by the occupancy rates of commercial real estate, the need for parking will always exist as long as there are cities that breed jobs and suburbs that house workers. From the perspective of a conservative investor, investments that are safe from risk and show promise for moderate financial growth are generally very appealing. In terms of growth, the output of US parking lot and garage management is forecasted to grow at an annual compounded rate of 2 percent per year between...

Trung Nguyen Coffee - Case Study

4 P's of Marketing for Starbucks

...Case 29 Starbucks’ Global Quest in 2006: Is the Best Yet to Come? Arthur A. Thompson The University of Alabama Amit J. Shah Frostburg State University Thomas F. Hawk Frostburg State University n early 2006, Howard Schultz, Starbucks’ founder, chairman of the board, and global strategist, could look with satisfaction on the company’s phenomenal growth and market success. Since 1987, Starbucks had transformed itself from a modest nine-store operation in the Pacific Northwest into a powerhouse multinational enterprise with 10,241 store locations, including some 2,900 stores in 30 foreign countries (see Exhibit 1). During Starbucks’ early years when coffee was a 50-cent morning habit at local diners and fast-food establishments, skeptics had ridiculed the notion of $3 coffee as a yuppie fad. But the popularity of Starbucks’ Italianstyle coffees, espresso beverages, teas, pastries, and confections had made Starbucks one of the great retailing stories of recent history and the world’s biggest specialty coffee chain. In 2003, Starbucks made the Fortune 500, prompting Schultz to remark, “It would be arrogant to sit here and say that 10 years ago we thought we would be on the Fortune 500. But we dreamed from day one and we dreamed big.”1 Having positioned Starbucks as the dominant retailer, roaster, and brand of specialty coffees and coffee drinks in North America and spawned the creation of the specialty coffee industry, management’s long-term objective was now to establish...
