Growing up we would see commercials of SeaWorld, showing us Killer whales entertaining the crowd by performing tricks never seen before. Tourists can leave the park being reassured that killer whales in captivity in fact enjoy performing and are living the lavish lifestyle. Their living standards are far more superior to anything found in “dark, scary ocean.”( a term used by SeaWorld’s executives to defend okra captivity.) In captivity it is a different story, these whales have injured and killed multiple victims. SeaWorld hides the documents and footage of some incidents that have occurred. So that their paying viewers do not see what is really going on. More than half of the whales at SeaWorld share the genes of the aggressive whale Tilikum. Despite knowing the fact that Tilikum was a dangerous whale that had aggressive genes, SeaWorld didn’t care. SeaWorld looks at the fact it will make them more money. “Blackfish” also talks about the lies that SeaWorld tells their tourists. The trainers at SeaWorld are told to tell the people that the whales in the wild only live 25-30 years in the wild and in captivity they live longer. When in fact it’s the opposite.
