...Drama 3030 Film Analysis The movie Casino is a 1995 American crime drama directed by Martin Scorsese. This film shows the power, authority and money the mobsters in Las Vegas had. Sam “Ace” Rothstein is seen as a powerful boss man, with authority and urgency. He establishes his presence in his casino from the beginning, entering on a red carpet while a valet parked his car. The city of Las Vegas was used as a contrast to the empty desert around the thriving city. This bright, money making town is filled with exciting opportunities while the desert is compared to a graveyard. Las Vegas was a luxurious, late night city that catered to every need as long as you had money. Power and authority was a recurring theme during the film. The hierarchy of power was always stressed, there was always a boss and Ace was the biggest one at the casino. Ace had to answer to the mobsters that offered him the position. This was just a routine pay out he did every month, or they would send their own man to collect it. They had the power to influence politicians and accountants that would fake the books with their money. They were the driving authority behind every move in Las Vegas, especially at the Tangiers. The casino had many illegal operations. Scorsese takes the viewer behind the scene to understand how the Italian mobsters made money. A gentleman walks through an authorized access without being questioned. Infact the doorman was not paying attention to who entered the doors. Many...

...Case Study – Chapter 3 (#1) Tyler Linkous 3/31/2015 Between the three choices of disk mirroring, computer mirroring, or an SAN (Storage Area Network), in my opinion, is the Storage Area Network. With that being said, the reasoning behind my choice of the SAN is that it would probably be the most secure and the most difficult for a hacker to gain access into. This is probably the best thing all the casinos can have for saving their client and customers information. A Storage area network (SAN) is a dedicated high-speed network (or sub network) that interconnects and presents shared pools of storage devices to multiple servers. “A Storage Area Network moves storage resources off the common user network and reorganizes them into an independent, high-performance network. This allows each server to access shared storage as if it were a drive directly attached to the server. When a host wants to access a storage device on the SAN, it sends out a block-based access request for the storage device.” This is great for maintaining information as it can be easily accessible and very clean but at the same time it can also be the best and safest prevention technique against hackers. The price is worth the amount of high tech options you can get with an SAN to keep your information safe from within. “Storage area networks are managed centrally and Fibre Channel SANs have the reputation of being expensive, complex and difficult to manage. The emergence of iSCSI has reduced these challenges...

...This casino, which grew as word spread, not only furnished gambling, but also all evils associated with it. Top O’ Hill Terrace became known for its illicit activity. Meanwhile, pastors, including Dr. Norris, preached against this place (and others like it). Statements referring to Top O’ Hill Terrace, such as “Hell’s Half Acre,” and “a blight to Tarrant County” give us insight into Dr. Norris’s view of the place. However, while the preachers spoke against the casino, the police continued to raid. However, because of the clever system of guards, alarms, and tunnels, (and perhaps a few bargains) the place took a long time to be shut down. However, once it was closed, this property once again saw a dramatic transformation, but this time for the...

...Manager. What it entitles and how it benefits the organization. In the gaming, industry the role of senior catering manager differs from a senior catering manager in the public sector. In the casino, the role is wider, and more complex. This position not only manages all catering events, but managers the floor managers in the beverage department, motivates, enforces, and delegates a number of subordinates. The role of senior catering manager is also high in our managerial structure. For the senior manager, also receives feedback from the president and director which is delivered down to floor managers and then on the team members. Feedback is important as it plays a large role in motivating not only the managers but also the employees. The feedback received from upper management is the means in our success at the casino. Knowing which direction to take, which approach, and whether or not task are being completed correctly is needed. This position is in fact a large role, yet leads the casino to success and without proper motivation can be detrimental. This is a role of a leader. The team For the purpose of this paper’s assignment, first person will be used in describing my teammates at University of Phoenix and how their personality traits fit into the organization at the casino. ...today’s service industry, especially in the gaming industry as it is the case of Harrah’s Entertainment casino. Actually, from its inception, Harrah’s former CEO Phil Satre had instituted this policy of “changing Harrah’s from an operations-driven company that viewed each casino as a stand-alone business into a marketing-driven company that built customer loyalty to all Harrah’s properties”. In doing so, Satre asked Gary Loveman to head a strategy to affect this change in all Harrah’s organizations, and so Loveman did follow through on this task. He effectively focused on delivering customer service and on understanding and marketing effectively to the customer. This is the secret to Harrah’s success, which allows him and Harrah’s to maintain loyalty from its customers based on the database they had collected over the years, as they were able to identify their customers’ needs and wants as well as to have good reward and incentive programs in place to recognize their clientele according to the time and money they spend gambling over their facilities. Yet, for their workforce, Harrah’s instituted a bonus system tied to job satisfaction. “Rewards hinge on everyone’s performance at a casino- and on customer satisfaction, not a property’s financial performance”. Also both Satre’s and Loveman’s secret was not to built fancy or extravagant facilities “billion-dollar casinos” as it was not the most prudent use of capital because “the returns on such buildings often waken when the...

...it’s no secret that the state of Hawaii is desperate for it. I saw on the news a few weeks ago the mayor’s big plan to fix Honolulu’s roads and heard that a hefty $150 million price tag that will come along with it. The piece on the news said that the state was unsure of where that money would come from and this got me wondering why hasn’t Hawaii legalized gambling? I used four sources to delve into both sides of this controversial topic. The first source is a report from CQ Researcher titled “Gambling in America” by Kenneth Jost. The second is an article from The Honolulu Star-Advertiser “On Politics” column, by Richard Borreca. The third resource I used to gather my information from is Gambling, from the Opposing Viewpoints series and lastly, I conducted an interview with a long time, self-proclaimed professional gambler, who wanted to keep their identity anonymous and asked only to be referred to as “Rush”. After exploring both sides of the topic I’ve come to the conclusion that the pro-gambling side wins. The evidence given by the supporters seems much more concrete and numbers based while the opponents seem to appeal to the public’s pathos using fallacies such as hasty generalizations and post hoc ergo propter hoc. There are many different forms of legalized gambling today, ranging from state lotteries, to commercial casinos, and Internet gambling. I’m going to focus on the two that seem to be most applicable to the state of Hawaii, which are commercial casinos and a...

...ten minutes, and still no casino players showed up to my Black Jack table. I didn’t expect anything else; morning shifts were usually pretty dead. Eventually, people slowly started joining the game and before I knew it, it was 6 p.m. and Karisa was already waiting outside for me. Karisa and I were best friends for ten years since high school and we carpool every night since she works at the daycare centre right across the street from the casino. As soon as I got into the car, she reassured me that Chris picked you up earlier that afternoon. Your father, Chris and I, were high school sweethearts. We got married a little over five years ago. After our second anniversary, I gave birth to you, my beautiful son, Luke. The following morning at work, I set up my Black Jack table. I got the casino chips and three packs of fifty-two card decks. I started doing card tricks to pass the time when someone approached my table. A man put a twenty-dollar bill on the table, so I exchanged his money for chips. When he went to grab his chips, I noticed a large Capricorn tattoo on his forearm. I quickly recognized the horoscope sign because Chris had the identical tattoo on the same spot. He lost all of his chips and looked like he was about to grab his wallet. Instead he was tapping his hidden gun in his jeans pocket, and threatened me saying, “GIVE ME ALL OF THE CHIPS AND DO NOT SAY ANYTHING, OR ELSE”. I gave him the chips but hit a secret button hidden underneath the...

Still there are several obstacles slow down this trend, or it seems to be that. One of these obstacles is the culture. Through the following discussion, the main idea is to show that culture is not an obstacle; rather that globalization should deal with it as a key customer. Moreover, nations, countries, states, and people should change their vision to start deal with globalization as a project not as a goal. This project should have several goals. These goals should be in line with customers’ requirements. Therefore, the customer who is the local culture will accept and support this project. Introduction Culture is an umbrella term for patterns of thoughts, emotions, and ways to act which mankind lives by. Everywhere we go outside our own land border one would face a new culture that somehow differs in a way from the one used to, regardless if it concerns a neighboring...

...Las Vegas Sands Corporation History The Las Vegas Sands Corporation started in 1989 as “Las Vegas Sands Incorporated” with the purchase of the Sands hotel and casino by entrepreneur Sheldon Adelson and his partners. In 1995 Sheldon Adelson bought out his partners in The Interface Group (TIG), the group that made the initial purchase of the Sands, and began planning the Venetian. In 1996 the Sands was imploded and in 1999 the Venetian was opened. Five years later, in December of 2004, Adelson took the Las Vegas Sands Inc. group public and it has since been the Las Vegas Sands Corporation (LVSC). This law simply states that all people on Earth are separated by at the most six other individuals. Whether or not this is true is left for debate but it clearly shows the interconnectedness of people on a planet that seems not so large anymore. On a much smaller scale this theory can be used as well. I’ve seen it performed for sports players and coaches, i.e. the Bill Walsh coaching tree, Dean Smith coaching disciples and even the six degrees of Ricky Henderson. For me and my industry which happens to be gaming the six degrees of separation would make me somewhat of a legacy. In only four steps, my gaming lineage can be traced all the way back...

...moment consists of your first love. What I have gathered first-hand from mine is that every rose has it's thorn. The feeling that I had for this older man was very foreign. It was love, there was no denying that but also a sinister lust that set it on fire. My family hated him and that's what made me continue crawling back to him. Waiting sickly on his porch step from 2 A.M to 7 A.M, I would even show up to his casino when meant to be in school. It was a hopeless love that was bound to fail, yet I became those girls who were too blind. I built a shell around this older man, my life was to serve him. Whether it was giving him my innocence or money to fund his casino, I would do anything. But as the seasons began changing, so did he. It was a cold war between his men and my father's. It was no longer was about me or our unholy secret, but about him gaining power and turfs. He wanted what my father had and that was owning most of Los Santos by the strings in his tainted hands. I began to see less and less of the older man, even his own brother would not have me around the casino. But for God's sake, it wasn't even about me anymore. It was about the baby inside of my childish wounds that needed attention. I am looking for a tall dark mysterious man whose face is usually hidden under a pork-pie hat. Where are you Michael Bergmann? The end to a start. My father had me see a psychologist, he says that it's for the best. But I know that's code for I've been a crazy bitch since Michael...
