Zy’Kevoius is a three- year- old African-American male with a medical diagnosis of Seizures/Epilepsy and Global Development Delay. He has lived with his father, Elisha Williams, Jr., since the age of six months. Mr. Williams has full custody of his son. He stated that his family helps him to care for his son.
According to Mr. William, Zy’Kenviuos has five to six seizures a month. Levetilacetam 100 mg and clobazam 2.5 mg per day is used to help control the child’s seizures. The father will give all medications at home. However, when there’s a seizure at school and last more than five minutes diastat has to be administered in the rectal. Mr. Williams shared specific problems to look for when his child is having a seizure: A loud cry, whole body shaking, and purplish/bluish color changes to the lips associated with staring spells. The IEP consist of physical and occupational therapy.
As we arrived at the home, Mr. Williams went to the sitter home to get Zy’Kenviuos. He sat in his father lap quietly. Before departing from the home, the team was able to observe him walking, climbing and standing. Zy’Kevious would give the team member who were speaking to him direct eye contact but never respond. We later learned from the father that Zy’Kevious doesn’t talk. The father indicated that he could only say “dad, dad”. Otherwise he make jargoning
