...Self- Assessment Orlando Polite Juanita Murrell BUS 520 – Leadership and Organizational October 21, 2013 The Johari Window is for improving self-awareness, and mutual understanding between individuals. It can also be used to assess and improve relationships with others. Recognizing what others see in us is something that we may not be aware of and accept. One must believe and trust an individual before sharing personal information ("Johari Window," 2010). This paper will discuss some profiles of my personality characteristics and evaluation results. Also summarize assessment results. Then analyze how the scores play a part with relationships and career choices. The profile of my features displays my personal preference and is consistently decisive. I tend to get work done under stressful conditions. I show a lot of positive feedback as a manager. I am extremely confident with my work and decisions. Managers are not perfect, so we tend to make mistakes and learn from them. Being able to take criticism makes an individual a better person and a good manager. Being able to work long hours and with standing prejudices and biases situation is one of my strong points (Schermerhorn, Osborn, Uhl-Bien & Hunt, 2012). My primary mission as a leader is change. I have a lot of concern on what my employers want in life and always thinking of the long term. In this position, I am not only a leader but a teacher. Employees...

...Prior to taking the self-assessments, I did not know where I stood in terms of my communication skills. I was expecting to find more weaknesses than strengths because of my personality type. I am an introvert. I have always had trouble connecting with people because I was either too shy or too anxious. I was afraid of the way people perceived me and I feared that I would embarrass myself at any given moment. Throughout my life, I have always tried to understand what made communicating with others so easy. I simply kept an open mind. I did not want to negate potential friendships or opportunities to grow personally. When I completed the self-assessment that determined my strengths and weaknesses, I was surprised to see that I had done better than I thought I would. Opening up my mind helped me see a variety of perspectives and it even helped me know myself better. According to the self-assessment, I am a good listener. I knew this already because I like to give the other person time to thoroughly explain their point of view. Another one of my strong suits is interpersonal communication. I am effective in...

...Self-Assessment Self-assessment is a test that is taken so as to strengths and weakness in a certain area. The test is very significance as sit and lets an individual understand what areas they need to improve and what they are good at. Nothing is as important as understanding one’s self. When you understand how you are and how you are likely to behave in a certain situation, you get to understand how you will react to such a situation. In the self-assessment that I took, it was about knowing what an individual’s decision-making style is. Every day we are faced with b circumstances that dictate that we must make decisions. The quality of the decisions that we make plays a role in shaping our lives. According to the assessment, there are four styles that an individual could use in making their decision. The main aim of this assessment was to identify the style of decision-making that suits me. In the final results, it appeared that my decision-making style is analytical. In the ten questions that were provided for self-assessment, I score six times for the analytical style. This style was the one that I had most scores, followed by directive style where I score three times, behavioral style where I scored only one time, and finally the conceptual style where I did not score any mark. Going by the scoring criterion, the style in which an individual had a lot of scoring is the style that they use wherever they are making their decisions. Therefore, my style of decision-making...

...Self Assessment Diane Jackson COM/200 Version 3 December 19, 2012 Prof. Kelly Price Noble Self Assessment Gathering evidence to form a perception can be a difficult task. People can misread signals and take things I say wrong just like with anyone else in the world. I thought it would be more meaningful and insightful if the peer reviews were done by people who know me. The people I asked to do the surveys are close to me. I know they gathered their perceptions over time by coming around me and interacting with me through conversations and actions. They got their information to gather a perception from how I am on a day to day basis and how I carry myself everyday in my life. One of the peer perceptions was done by a person that does not know me as well. This way I got a chance to review what was said to see if I am viewed equally across the board with those that do know me very personally and those who do not. I am confident in the way I present myself to others as a whole. I wanted to make sure I come across as the person I am inside. I reviewed my face-to-face communication styles survey. It said that when it comes to dominance, I am neutral. I don’t always have to be in control. My dramatic score revealed that I am for the most part neutral, but that I am a bit less dramatic. My contentious/ argumentative level showed that I am again neutral, but a bit less contentious. When it comes to my animated score it was flat at zero saying I sometimes use sustained eye contact...

...Wk4, Self-Assessment What did this exercise reveal about you to yourself? The description of the four types of personal orientation to others, named as competitors, individualists, cooperators, and equalizers is another way to understand our unique preferences and how we respond to others (Greenberg, 2013). This exercise indicated an individualist disposition with cooperators coming in second. Since the overall concern or motivation for an individualist is the outcomes related to self, the question now is regarding job motivation. How does this relate to the current job choice since this exercise ended in a self-revelation unbeknownst to me? Regardless of ones personal orientation, effective communication has key elements, which is accountability, professional, brief and sincere (Marques, 2010). Prior to this assignment, if asked about job choice motivation it appeared that it was to help others; therefore the self-assessment gives a total different view. Persons high in individualism cooperate only under some conditions when there is a benefit to self. Were you surprised at what you learned, or was it something you already knew? After reading the chapter it surprised me arriving at the higher score of individualist due to the overall emphasis and concern for others depicted by working in a non-profit whose main objective is helping those who cannot help themselves. Cooperative is not a word that would be used to describe my personality but could be in...

...1. Describe the essential aspects of a self-directed, intrinsically motivated, active learner? To be able to learn well, firstly, a successful student should be able to transfer ideas to vary the context of situations that are faced in the immediate environment. This enables learning to be visualized in ways that ideas can be applied by the student. For example, when learning piano the lessons learnt are better understood when the student is able to practice using the piano itself than by only learning the notes. Secondly, spacing out learning over a period of time helps the student to retain ideas learnt through repetition by taking breaks. When learning activity is spaced out the student is able to track better what is learnt and does not end up feeling frustrated when taking on difficult concepts....

...By doing the self-assessment, I learned that I am good at adopting life long learning, and discovering self-motivation. On both areas I scored an 80. I think I scored higher on these areas because I have always been a very independent learner. In school and in life if I did not know how to do something I have almost always been able to figure it out with little to no help. I was not surprised at all that I scored higher on these then other areas. I am the type of person that likes to learn something new every day. I do not require other people being on me about doing the things I need and want to do. All I really need is someone to point me in the direction to learn what I need to learn to be able to do the things I want to do in life. I did not disagree with these scores at all. The areas that I scored the lowest on were employing interdependence, with a 52, gaining self-awearness, and mastering self-management, both with scores of 67. I don't think a 67 is really that low but they could be better. I think I scored lower on employing interdependence because like I said before I have almost always been able to figure things out with little to no help from others. Growing up I did not really have a support group, that had the abilities to help me. My mother grew up with dyslexia, but graduated from high school with help from her friends and her mother. My stepfather has an 8th grade education, due to the family situations he went through growing up. I don't blame them. I think...

...Self-Assessment essay The essays I did were The motivation essay What motivates me on the What about me? section, The What’s my leadership Style on the Working with others section, and How satisfied am I with my job on the job section. I agree With all three outcomes from them, I got a 20 for growth, a 18 for relatedness, and 20 for existence. I’m always trying to expand my knowledge and learn new things at work, I don’t really care about what other think or say about me but I do like to develop friendships with my co-workers, I am looking for a job that pays well and has nice benefits but I’ve shown that when I don’t get that (like the job I have now $40 dollars a week) I still work my hardest and try to fulfill my responsibilities. For the How satisfied am I with my work I agree, I actually like what I do at my job, I love working and fixing computers. I lied on the coworkers part cause I don’t have coworkers but I got a 4.6 on the work part, 3.8 on the supervisor part, and 1 on the promotion and pay part since I only get 40 dollars a week for 6 days of work. He’s a good boss but he is always out and if he’s in store he’s on his phone or texting most of the time and when he is I can’t talk to him to bounce ideas off of him. For the leadership assessment I got a 11 on concern for people and 17 on concern for task. While I do believe a happy worker is a good worker the most important part for me about a group project is getting the work done right. I’ve already had two...

...As unique individuals we all learn differently, every person has their own learning preferences. Some people have a preference for seeing material in order to learn it, some people have to hear information to absorb it, and others must have their hands wrapped around the subject. Each and every person has a process by which they learn. The following paper will be a Self-Assessment and Reflection Paper of my learning style. I will also assess my strengths and opportunities, available to me, for growth. Finally, knowing my learning style can dramatically expand my knowledge base and putting myself in situations favorable for my learning style will allow me to succeed. I will formulate a strategic plan that will allow me reach my goals. But, what is a learning style? Learning styles are defined as “individual consistencies in perception, memory, thinking and judgment across any stimulus condition” (OMIDVAR, Bee Hoon, 2012, 269). Based in Kolb’s (1984) learning model, I am a visual learner. Visual learners may have artistic ability as they have a strong sense of color, pictures, flow charts, diagrams and visualization, and they write everything for frequent and quick visual review. The Visual learners may have difficulties with spoken directions, sounds and spoken words. (Amran, Bahry, Yusop, Abdullah, 2010/2011, p.328) Learning to me depends on the setting, depends on me, and how my processor is “feeling” at the time of contact. I prefer to work independently, I dislike working...

...Self-Assessments MGT/311 July 1, 2014 Donald Ratliff Self-Assessments Within every organization, management must be cognoscente of need to periodically assess their employees overall job satisfaction. This requires an ability to connect with them on a personal level for unlike in the past, an organization that is successful understands there are many facets in effective management that go beyond mere job performance. As the operations manager of a construction firm, the need to delve deeper into an employee’s mindset can make the difference in what management style is most effective and can lead to greater production and overall job performance. Self-assessments can be a useful tool in determining where an employee is at in their work-life balance and can lead to a manager’s ability to effectively manage them. Randomly, I selected three employees to take self-assessments of job satisfaction, engagement, their current emotional state as well as their emotional intelligence, affect intensity, and their ability to be a deliberate decision maker. The results ranged dramatically in some areas with some coming in around the same. Below are the findings of each employee’s response within the respective categories. How Satisfied Am I With My Job? Within the area of job satisfaction, the scores ranged from a low of 65 to a high of 83 illustrating some dissatisfaction with their current job. As the manager, this provides valuable insight into how my employees feel...
