Film Analysis of Akeelah and the Bee

...Running head: FILM ANALYSIS OF AKEELAH AND THE BEE 1 Film Analysis of Akeelah and the Bee Miranda Clark (5568546) Word Count: 1561 Brock University Running head: FILM ANALYSIS OF AKEELAH AND THE BEE 2 This film is about an 11 year old girl by the name of Akeelah Anderson who has a hidden talent of being a really great speller. However her environment around her seems to interfere with her ability to be more independent and focus on school. Her dad was shot when she was only six, her family ignores her for their priorities such as work, children, and friends. Akeelah joins a spelling being to avoid having to attend detention for her absences at school suggested by her principal and teachers. Akeelah ends up succeeding and making it to the Scripps National Spelling Bee where she ends up winning the competition. I chose this film over the other films that were options because it was a film I have not seen yet as well as I felt like it would be a great film to analyze because of the black community the film is based in due to the fact that a lot of neglect and racism happens in black communities. Depending on the surroundings of these communities, children react differently based on what occurs. In this film, children and youth are depicted very differently depending on their surroundings as well as family situation. Akeelah is growing up in a community where bullying and racism occurs more often due to race and culture. An example of this in the film is when some...

Report Platform Evaluation

...recommendation based on the distance delivery platform analysis completed in the report titled “Production Investigation Paper” dated August 26, 2003. Distance Education Platform Based upon the needs of the system engineers, Cisco is seeking to accelerate the training and complete it in a shorter period of time to better accommodate an SE’s hectic schedule. Based on this feedback from the SEs, create a blended e-learning solution that combined both live and self-paced components. A blended solution would be very valuable, because if all the material were placed in a self-paced format, engineers wouldn’t have the opportunity to learn from each other or to talk with a subject matter expert. Most learners prefer some interaction, but the team’s past training experience revealed that it’s extremely important for analytical people to have this ability to share information with peers and to have access to an expert. Produce and deliver self-paced activities such as quizzes and a case study via OutStart Evolution. They designed the activities in a learning object model to be about 15-20 minutes long so that the learners could fit them into their regular schedules. Benefits to bending elearning are as follows: • Students spent seven hours vs. 10 hours of structured classroom time, a 30% reduction. • Students didn’t have to travel; they could take the course at their offices, customer sites, or homes. • Students didn’t have to stop working; they...

Elearning

...Explain how technology has changed the learning environment. New technology such as E-learning has the use of Internet technologies to enhance knowledge and performance. E-learning technologies have provided learners with the capability to have control over contents, learning sequences, pace of learning, and media database at their fingertips which saves time. It also allows them to tailor their experiences to meet their personal learning objectives. Noe’s thoughts on new technology depicted on p.358 that new technology training methods are superior to traditional methods in one way because they allow trainers to participate in courses at any time or places (Noe, p. 358). I once read a case study which depicted an insurance company who was looking for new ways to cut cost while simultaneously maintaining their competitive edge in the insurance marketing industry. In this scenario, the company was a giant amongst its competitors, and all their employees were grandfathered in as there were practically relatives or good friends of the CEO. When the CEO died, he left the company to his son. After the first year of running the company, his son realize that he could expand the company, increase sales, make a profit, and cut expenses at the same time by using new technology such as multimedia, and E-Services. This was a great idea; very innovative marketing strategy; however, it also meant lay-offs and unemployment for most employees. His concepts for change were based on the...

DISC Assessment In week, one of organizational leadership each member of “Learning Team D” completed the DISC Platinum rule. The DISC Platinum rule is a behavioral style assessment that breaks down an individual’s predominate behavior styles; dominate, interactive, steadiness, and cautious. There are sixteen sub-styles that further attempt to explain the results. "Learning Team D" is comprised of three members, and not one of them has the same style. One of the team members predominate style is dominated, one member style is cautious, and the third member is steadiness. Those who have the dominate style are driven self-starters who are fast-paced, goal oriented, decisive in their actions and decisions, and are more at ease when they have freedom to manage themselves and others. A cautious style is slower-paced and task-focused, they are cautious in their decisions and actions, dislike involvement, they want to be right, they work slowly and precisely on their own, and have good problem-solving skills. The steadiness style is slower-placed and relaxed, they seek relationships and acceptance, and they can be indecisive...
