Self-Reflective Essay

I narrowed my value list down to three values. My values being ranked in importance to me are: family, honesty and striving for excellence. Even though I only write about three values, I am very complex and there are many virtues that I hold deep to heart.
I value family first; I am a very fair person and know the influence of family cannot be overlooked in the workplace. Family and experiences mold us to be the worker that we are in the workplace. Family has helped me be the person I am today. You can't change your family, so you must have faith in your family. I feel that my family values would affect my leadership style. It makes me a more compassionate leader.
Second, I value Honesty. I was raised on this value. My parents raised us not to lie and we were taught strongly against it. To be dishonest, shows poor character and low values. I feel it’s a needed value to everyone. Honesty definitely affects my leadership style. I am a fair and just leader. I believe to treat others the way you want to be treated. I would not want anyone to be dishonest with me because I am an honest person. You have to believe that the person you are communicating with is telling the truth. If not you will immediately take offense and be on the defense; and who wants to work like that? I trust someone until they give me reason not to and feel they are honest people. I will be honest and expect the same from others. Honesty is a way of living to me.
Thirdly, I am an ambitious person. Hard working and constantly trying to strive for excellence. I have set goals for myself; I will not stop until I reach them. Once I have reached my long term goals, I will then form more goals. I believe everyone has purpose and we have to work hard to find it.
When I look at this paper I realize how far I have come not only in life but

Self Reflective Course Essay

...TRIDENT UNIVERSITY INTERNATIONAL NAME BUS303 Business Communication MODULE 4: Integration and Reflection Assignment: Self Reflective Course Essay INSTRUCTOR: This Business Communication course has helped me overcome my fear of entering the real world and preparing for my military retirement. Being in the service for all of these years will place a small amount of fear regarding entering the civilian workforce because of the leadership style you are taught in the military. However, with the tools I have gained from this class; I feel that my transition from military life to the civilian sector will be easier than I thought. We as military personnel have learned how to wear a uniform properly and how to greet personnel with respect but we have not been taught how to properly prepare for retirement. When asked to write a resume in this course, I felt this assignment would be a challenge because the first thing I thought about was “the future”. Asking myself what exactly does my own future have in store for me and how do I prepare. Immediately, I took this assignment serious; gathering my thoughts to put into my resume because what if there was no tomorrow for me in the U.S. Navy; what if I had to get out today “what would I do”. I really enjoyed this assignment along with the cover letter because it challenged me to “think, what if” and “how do I prepare”, so this really hit home for me. “The Tips for Writing Resumes” was a great source to refer to for this...

Reflective Paper

...A reflective essay is a piece of writing that basically involves your views and feelings about a particular subject. The goal of a reflective essay is to not only discuss what you learned, but to convey the personal experiences and findings that resulted. Writing a reflective essay is your chance to reveal and talk about your personal insight about a topic. Reflective essays are used as a self-assessment measure of sorts; they allow you to address your experiences and what you've gained. The reflective essay consists of your individual views on the matter and an explanation of your stance. The goal of this essay is to successfully relay your own beliefs, attitudes and observations. In some reflective essays, you'll be required to support your conclusions by citing materials such as books, journals, articles and other resources. A reflective essay should reflect your own thoughts on the subject matter, not those of others. The poem by Langston Hughes, “Theme for English B”, brought back memories of myself growing up during the times where it was truly a white only and black only world. It was not college that I had to endure the color barriers but it was going to elementary through high school. I went to an all black school until I entered high school. The plot seems to take on a very structured, by providing detailed background information. The plot is clearly connected to the setting as Hughes states “I am twenty-two, colored, born in Winston-Salem. I went to school there...

Self Assessment Essay

...Self Reflective Essay Derek Alan Barbara ENG115Self-Assessment Reflection Derek Alan Barbara For the informative essay, I chose to do a web style prewriting strategy which was mainly effective at getting my ideas out while organizing them at the same time. I learned from this strategy that I can organize and have plenty of ideas come at the same time. The Purpose of my essay was to inform the reader on how to take a shower. From the getting ready part, through the actual shower and on to the after shower activities. I looked for content and organization in the essays read in class. I learned that other authors had really interesting stands on a variety of subjects. I learned that I needed to spend more time organizing and structuring my paper towards the end. I decided to revise my essay by proofreading it myself and making corrections throughout. I took time apart from the essay in order to gather my thoughts and be able to look at it with fresh eyes. This method was especially helpful because it allowed me to organize the way I wanted and decide what should be taken out and left in. I believe the strongest part of my essay was the amount of detail I used in describing how to prepare, take and things to do after utilizing a shower. I ran into some problems with getting off topic but I tried to cope with it by reminding myself of the main point and taking small breaks in between writing. This proved to be very useful and allowed me to stay on topic and organize...

SSK12 has given me a good understanding of what it takes at becoming a university student and in particular the skills on writing essays. As I have mentioned previously up until study period 2, I had never written an essay and did not fully comprehend how important the set out of a university essay was. Choosing an Essay Question was an important part of my learning in week 6 because this has now given me the beginning step in writing a university essay using the correct format. I am feeling a lot more confident when approaching the subject of essays as I now understand and have the knowledge on the procedure in completing an academic essay and what is required. Effective Study Skills Are the Sole Foundation of a Sound Education

...“Effective study skills are the soul foundation of a sound education” The title of this essay could suggest that by applying the correct methods, habits and practices to the learning experience (study skills) and by developing these through practice and reflection that this in itself provides the exclusive means of progress in learning. Wikipedia (2013) suggests “Any skill which boosts a person’s ability to study and pass exams can be termed a study skill.” We may define a skill as the ability to perform a learned activity and then develop this through practice and reflection. However, the temptation may be too narrowly define the acquisition of a particular skill say, being able to achieve a good mark in an essay, as an end in itself. Consequently, it may be better to perceive study skills as part of a wider process of learning which contains other aspects for consideration so the student may be able to achieve a greater perspective and understanding. Burns et al (2000) suggests that the student needs to combine and integrate different elements in order to learn. This may for instance involve developing a positive attitude for self-motivation which has been built upon a reflective sense of self-awareness which measures personal potential, both strengths and weaknesses, or a self-belief which encourages the desire to succeed. Potter (2011) suggests that a grasp of key study skills gives a student greater confidence, insight and efficiency which would also be another added...

This essay with provide examples of critical thinking when evaluating arguments by using the different dimensional levels of reflective processes. Critical thinking in evaluating arguments is stated as an essential skill for student at university level, but can only be used to its best when it grouped with the tool of reflection. Most do believe, reflection and critical thinking go hand in hand as a process, just like a personal experience cannot be truly acknowledged within if you don’t ask the question, analyse, understand or action. The fundamental role that critical thinking plays in university arguments is that it allows the student to analyse, evaluate and draw conclusion by using their own mind and not be persuaded by other external or biased opinions. Pavlovich’s reading “The development of reflective practise through student journals” (Pavlovich 2007) refers to the four dimensional levels that she believes is the summary of reflective practise.
