Senior Project Reflection

By contributing in the Senior Project, I have learned more about my topic and myself. Since I was very young, I have always dreamed of getting married. Just the thought of matrimony made me giddy inside. Around the age of four, I was always the flower girl at all of my relatives’ weddings. Over the years, I had discovered that children, in some third-world countries, can be forced into marriage against their will. Even though I love the concept of marriage, I would never had been ready for that kind of commitment at such a young age. I have learned that I am so privileged, and I should be grateful for many instances in my life. I could have been forced into marriage, however I am able to say that I can dream about matrimony in the future. Throughout my high school career, I have made a long-lasting impact on myself. I have learned more about myself in the last four years than I did in my entire lifetime. Since freshman year, I have always desired to obtain a 4.0 grade point average or higher by my senior year. I can proudly say that I have reached this goal successfully.

I learned that I must reach out and explore outside surroundings. In order to be well-rounded. I must know the events on Earth. I gained the skills of observation and exploration. I must be able to discover the commodities outside my back door. Over my Senior Project journey, I have learned that dedicating your time will be worth it in the long run. I have also learned that stress can distract from achieving ultimate success. Also, procrastination is not worth the increased amount of stress. I would advise future students to be prepared for the amount of work ahead of them. It will not be easy, but working hard will be beneficial as a result. I will never forget the feeling of not knowing my topic. It was such a long process to discover the right issue for me. When it was found, I felt

Senior Project Reflection

...Senior Project is designed to have you reach out beyond the classroom to explore your own area of study, and to combine skills you have learned at Mineola High School in a significant demonstration of your skills. But beyond the hours you will spend on your project, there is a larger lesson here.  At the heart of your Senior Project experience lays the answer to the question What really matters to me?  You may not even hear your answer until later sometimes our passions sneak up on us and don't fully show their faces until we are old enough and strong enough to contain them.  Some students discover that they care deeply about social justice or global issues.  Others find talents for arts such as photography or teaching.  Some learn the important lesson of what they don't want to do with their lives.  Whatever the discovery, students walk away from the Senior Project with a clearer sense of who they are and who they are becoming.  Good or bad, the experience teaches us valuable information. A senior project can help you find what you would like to do in college and what you would like to do in life. Researching and talking to people that are in the field that you were interested in can show you a glimpse of what it would be like to work in that field that you are doing the research in. A senior...

Senior Research Project Reflection

...Although I finished my data collection a few weeks ago (hence the lack of posting), I've been continuing my work with YAA and the i.d.e.a. Museum. Over the course of my Senior Research Project, I've gained experience with research in a non-scientific setting, and I've also learned more about what makes outreach efforts successful. While my involvement with Young Authors of Arizona continues, the awards ceremony two weeks ago marks my last event as a Student Leader with YAA. I recently committed to the University of Pennsylvania, and I hope to apply what I've learned about writing outreach to similar efforts in Philadelphia. For now, I'm looking into future projects for YAA and searching for new student leadership to make those projects happen. I'm also helping the i.d.e.a. Museum to develop a more formalized summer program for teen volunteers....

Dealing with Stress

...Dealing With Stress My senior thesis project is going to be about stress. ...The Responsibility Project Lorraine A. Garcia ETH/316 May 20, 2013 Glenn H. DeAtley, J.D. The Responsibility Project “The Home Team” is a great short film reflecting the team comradery of the Murray State Racers basketball team. This film reflects the coaches and players perspective, as well as, the community’s love of the game, players, and traditions. This is not only just an extra curriculum event for these people this is an event that brings out families across all areas in the city. They have had a very successful team over they years and when entering the gym and the many banners reflecting their championships are a reflection of that. One of the issues that was brought up in the field was that of the importance of the game. Restaurants and people reflecting the school colors, signs being changed to show the support that they have for the team and the town almost completely shutting down in order to attend home games were expressed and shown. These are sure signs that the support that they have for the team is huge. Being a small town, Murray thrives on talking and living and breathing basketball and it was actually stated on the film that it is what Murray, Kentucky on the map. The players spoke about how when they came into the school their freshman year they were treated as family from everyone and feel that everyone in the town are friends. Coach Steve Proham said that he witnessed that the players, as well as him, are in embraced as family...

Defining Knowledge Management

...Proceedings of the 41st Hawaii International Conference on System Sciences - 2008 Towards Measuring Knowledge Management Success Murray E. Jennex San Diego State University mjennex@mail.sdsu.edu Abstract Discussions at previous HICSS conferences have revealed that there is no general agreement on definitions of knowledge management (KM) and knowledge management system (KMS) success. We developed these concepts and presented them earlier this year. Using an expert panel approach followed by two exploratory surveys, we identify KM success measures. The research demonstrates that measures for KM success are required on multiple dimensions. This paper thus also presents a set of dimensions with measures that can be used to determine if KM in an organization is successful. Stefan Smolnik European Business School (EBS) Stefan.Smolnik@ebs.edu David Croasdell University of Nevada, Reno davec@unr.edu begin to identify instruments that can be used to operationalize these measures. Besides presenting some background on KM success, the paper also offers a series of perspectives on KM/KMS success. These perspectives were derived from an analysis of academics and practitioners’ definitions of KM/KMS success. 2. Background on KM Success After summarizing various definitions of KM, Jennex defined KM success as reusing knowledge to improve organizational effectiveness by providing the appropriate knowledge to those who need it when it is needed [13]. KM is expected to have a...

Teaching Smart People How to Learn

...However many people don’t know how to learn. In fact the most difficult training strategies are those that are developed for personnel in senior leadership positions. Senior leaders are effective problem solvers when focusing on, identifying and correcting issues in the organizational environment. But when confronted with how their actions might have contributed to the organization’s problems they avoid learning; and in order for learning to continue personal reflection is required to influence change. A learning organization must understand the distinction between ‘‘single loop learning” and ‘‘double loop learning”. “Single loop learning” involves the identification and solving of a problem. Whereas “double loop learning” asks why is there a problem? Professionals utilize “single-loop learning” for projects such as organizational restructuring, training and development and process improvement. But seldom do they master the skills of “double loop learning”. All too often success has denied these professionals the opportunity to learn from their mistakes. As a result they avoid learning because they lack the reflective skills necessary to ask themselves why there is a problem and what role did I play in that problem. Avoidance Learning Studies of professional consultants exemplify the process of avoidance learning. For example when a project is not going as planned or when confronted with their own performance; it’s not uncommon to hear a defensive response such as “it is...

Nrp Research

...Nanyang Research Programme (NRP) Reflection Out of the curiosity of how scientists have the power to turn fiction into reality and the experience of undertaking research, I applied for a NRP project on cloaking an antenna in electromagnetic field and finally received a Gold Award at NRP symposium. The research was really a bitter-experience. The way the professor guided us was so much different from school as we had much autonomy in deciding almost everything. From the beginning, my partner and I had to research on the relevant fields on invisibility and assess our own academic ability to choose the project to undertake. Working with the research group under professor Dr. Zhang Baile was really an eye-opening experience. We attended the weekly sharing sessions which seniors share their recent reading ups and how they think they can apply the new findings to their projects. Such sharing sessions were very effective and it was a quick way to obtain knowledge as each individual has his or her own research limitation. In fact I have learned from this process and applied in a group of people to share the news we read to use as General Paper examples. The vigorous discussions help me lay an in-depth understanding abou the subject and encourage me to treat my knowledge learning more seriously. The patient and friendly seniors were always ready to help. I have learnt to use two stimulation...

Project Management

...Project Management Case Studies These case studies represent a range of projects in different libraries. They are all based on real events. The participating librarians were asked to provide details of projects within the headings used in the case study template which is located at the end of this document. Each case study is presented using these headings to enable the reader to make comparisons between the projects but there is some slight variation of style and detail. Although some editing has been done by the writer of these learning objects, the intention is to retain as much of the individuality of each project as possible. Brief conclusion and analysis is provided at the end of each case study by the writer of these learning objects. Several of the projects are ongoing at the time of writing. This partly reflects the nature of projects in ILS whereby they run parallel to mainstream service delivery. This offers real challenges for those involved and especially for the project leader who will continually need to prioritise the tasks, commitment and speed of working towards completion. None of these projects have been submitted by or directly involve senior managers. Although most have some approval and reporting to senior staff, these projects are managed by professionals in the middle management strata of their organizations and involve different grades of staff or volunteers. Senior staff are less accessible than middle managers and would probably claim to...

It is impossible to spend sufficient time on the works we will be exploring within the bounds of class-time, so you will be required to spend time reading and writing on your own; this is a practice that will enable you to bring your personal experiences with these works to our discussions in class and participate in an engaged way as part of our community of learning. But our community of learning is broader than the classroom—it also includes the community organizations you will be partnering with for your service-learning. We will be investigating and interrogating a versatile metaphor—cultivation—and how it impacts the cultures and communities in which we live...

Project Management

...4 lessons learned in Project Management Keep an open/honest channel of discussion with your boss/manager: Sometimes it is important to understand that management expects nothing but the best their team members. What should you do when things do not go well? Keep an open dialogue. Explain to your boos about the situation and always propose a solution to the problem at hand. Most direct reports do not approach the boss with solutions and merely present the problems, almost always exasperating the senior manager. This is important because it teaches crisis management and delivering bad news. Closing down a project: Closedown is the final phase of project management. Every project has an end point-the time at which objectives are achieved and deliverables are handed over to stakeholders. At that point, the project must fold its and the members must return to their assignments. This step is important because every project team should reflect on the their past activities- what went wrong? What could be done different in the future? The lessons learned through reflection must be recorded and incorporated into future projects. Commitment to a common goal is important: A shared understanding of the goal is extremely important but really effective teams go a step further. Their members are committed to the goal. This is extremely important because there is a big difference between understanding and commitment. Commitment is a visceral quality that motivates members to do work and...
