...2. Is the United States safer from terrorist attacks and natural disasters today when compared to pre-Sept 11, 2001? A single answer to the question is no, the U.S. is not safer from attacks or disasters. The question contains a conjunction which requires two responses; somewhat safer from the terrorists; and not significantly safer from natural disasters. The supposition of the question is that man-made terrorist attacks are the same as the act-of-God created natural disasters. I take the position that they are both the same, each an act-of-God, one expressed through a person and the second through a typhoon, earthquake, or climate change. I agree with Peter Katel, the U.S. is experiencing a false sense of security through two unrelated views of terrorist attacks. The first is the threat from terrorist attacks from foreign nations or non-state actors. The the U.S. population readily identifies with al Qaeda, Boko Haram, or the Islamic State; groups with notional identities recognized through dress, language, or religions affiliation. The U.S perception of these groups is negative and all collective efforts should be undertaken to prevent their access to the...

...Thiers’s a big gap between rich and poor such as the day of the recession. The country is fighting with itself internally. It has a Congress where there is conflict between the right (Republican) and the left (Democrats) and where they don't even want to talk to each other to discuss on a resolution for Americas bankruptcy problems and threats. The reason the U.S became great was because of its openness and democratic way. Now, it has become distrustful against foreigners, and anyone who is different which is not the theology the U.S was founded on . In U.S territory now we hunt down illegal immigrants and many people can still not accept having a black president in the White House. It’s interesting to see in the article how the event of 9/11 is attributed to the decline of America. No matter how you measure it, the United States remains the single most influential country economically, politically, diplomatically and militarily. For most of the past years, the U.S. economy has grown at a steady, generating higher incomes and wealth for American people. But since 2000 there has been a sharp decline in that trend of growth. The past decade has been the worst for the U.S. The U.S has been faced with high unemployment, stagnant wages, the protracted debate over raising the government debt ceiling and the downgrade of U.S. The problem of America’s decline is worsened by the rise of other power countries. There are other countries that have the potential towards achieving superpower...

...Jozelle Fleming RHT 101 026 Monday October 1, 2012 What was I doing on September 11, 2001? It was like any other morning. I woke up at around 8:00 am to use the bathroom as I normally do at around the same time every day, because being 8 ½ months pregnant can really put a strain on a person’s bladder. So as I was saying I went to the bathroom and lay back down and turned on the T.V. It really wasn’t much on so I started flipping through the channels and I stopped on the news channel. Now it was like around 8:50 am and what I saw on the screen just looked like any regular accident. It was lots of smoke and fire. I never thought this was a evil plan put together by some very evil people. (I would like to say what I really believe, but that would be another story) So as I continued watching the live footage, you see people running and people trying to help and others just watching wondering what the hell was going on. At about 9 o’clock you see another plane fly low and BOOM!! It hit the second tower. Now as I’m watching this I’m screaming and yelling at the T.V. screen like “WATCH OUT”!, Like they could hear me or something. Then it hit me at that exact moment all I could think was “O My God”, we are under attack. I could remember at that moment my stomach started hurting and I started feeling very scared. And all I could ask myself is “Do I really want to have my baby in this crazy world”? So of course now this terrible event that was taking place was now broadcasting...

...The Enduring Traumas of Sept. 11 Summary In the essay “The Enduring Traumas of Sept. 11” written by Damon Linker, he addresses the attack that occurred on September 11th of 2001 with what he went through that day of the attack and how he feels about the United states war that has been occurring throughout the years of America history. On the morning of Sept.11, 2001 it was like any other day for Linker going to work from Fairfield, Connecticut to the street of 5th Avenue. At his cross-town stroll to the office of First Thing magazine where he heard a very loud roar out of nowhere and glammed upward to see a passenger jet which was alarming to him and it was before Sept, 11. Linker mostly spent his entire life in New York City which made him have the memories of the Twin Tower always being there but this time he witnessed a huge horizontal gash of the right-hand tower and a massive amount of smoke floating in the sky above it. He immediately call his wife to turn on the TV for the news about the freak accident he nearly witnessed. He then returned to the street and gaze in shock at the horrifying scene unfolding two miles away for him. He called his father which immediately reminds him of his younger brother whom was attending a conference on Wall street that morning. He talked to his father on the phone to about burying his youngest son later that week, Linker's brother. The crushing of the Twin Towers being worse than it could have been at least for him. Linker's other brother...

Many applications insulate themselves from failures by checkpointing. For many applications, checkpointing into a shared single file is most convenient. With such an approach, the size of writes are often small and not aligned with file system boundaries. Unfortunately for these applications, this preferred data layout results in pathologically poor performance from the underlying file system which is optimized for large, aligned writes to non-shared files. To address this fundamental mismatch, we have developed a virtual parallel log structured file system, PLFS. PLFS remaps an application’s ...

...IDENTIFYING TCTOTMTKS VARIABLES USING SCIENCE PROCESS SKILL AND CIRCLING METHOD TO ANSWER SECTION B QUESTIONS FOR SCIENCE YEAR 5 Murugan s/o Subramaniam M.Env., B.Sc., Dip. Edu. SK Kota Masai 2, Pasir Gudang 21 August 2008. Acknowledgement I would like to thank the headmistress of SK Kota Masai 2, Puan Rosyati Binti Jani for giving me the permission and encouragement to conduct this study. I also would like to appreciate Mr. Rodzuan B. Raziki and Mr. Calen Woi for their moral support. A special thank to the pupils of 5A3 and 5A4 for their involvement in this study. Without their cooperation and the grace of god, this research won’t be successful. 1 Abstract This research was carried out to assist the pupils in answering section B Science Year 5 questions using TCTOTMTKS method. The objective of study was to identify TCTCTMTKS variables using science process skill and circle method. 98 respondents were involved in this study. Respondents are from 5A3 and 5A4 pupils were selected from 7 classes. Early observations had been carried out through exercises in classrooms. Through the observations, it was seen that the students were having difficulty in identifying variables from the experiment and unable to answer the following questions. Thus, this research focuses on how to identify to change, to observe, to measure and to keep the same variables by using science process skill and circling method. Pre-test and post-test were used to assess respondent achievement...
