Fareed makes a great point in his article regarding the decline of America and its fate. He mentions that the main story is not Islamic terrorism but the fate of the United States 50 years from now. George W. Bush had inherited a budget surplus from the Bill Clinton. America was the “indispensable nation,". Currently today the US is a deeply divided country in social terms. Thiers’s a big gap between rich and poor such as the day of the recession. The country is fighting with itself internally. It has a Congress where there is conflict between the right (Republican) and the left (Democrats) and where they don't even want to talk to each other to discuss on a resolution for Americas bankruptcy problems and threats. The reason the U.S became great was because of its openness and democratic way. Now, it has become distrustful against foreigners, and anyone who is different which is not the theology the U.S was founded on . In U.S territory now we hunt down illegal immigrants and many people can still not accept having a black president in the White House. It’s interesting to see in the article how the event of 9/11 is attributed to the decline of America. No matter how you measure it, the United States remains the single most influential country economically, politically, diplomatically and militarily. For most of the past years, the U.S. economy has grown at a steady, generating higher incomes and wealth for American people. But since 2000 there has been a sharp decline in that trend of growth. The past decade has been the worst for the U.S. The U.S has been faced with high unemployment, stagnant wages, the protracted debate over raising the government debt ceiling and the downgrade of U.S. The problem of America’s decline is worsened by the rise of other power countries. Unexpectedly 15 minutes after the first plane had crashed, a second hijacked airliner, United Airlines Flight 175 from Boston, crashed into the south tower of the World Trade Center. Also, American Airlines Flight 77 crashed into the Pentagon. United Airlines Flight 93, also hijacked, never reached its destination in Washington, D.C. The planned attack on the White House was thwarted when passengers on the plane confronted the terrorist and caused the plane to crash in a field in Pennsylvania. Immediately and for the first time in U.S. history, air traffic nation wide had been halted. Nearly three thousand people were killed in these attacks. This tragic event was planned and financed by Al Qaeda leader Osama Bin Laden and was just one step in his proclaimed "Holy War" against the United States and its allies. Bin Laden believed that the Muslim world should unite in this war against the United States and hoped that the September 11th actions would provoke the U. S. into retaliating thus giving cause for the Muslim nations to band together in a world wide effort to destroy the United States. ...2. Is the United States safer from terrorist attacks and natural disasters today when compared to pre-Sept 11, 2001? A single answer to the question is no, the U.S. is not safer from attacks or disasters. The question contains a conjunction which requires two responses; somewhat safer from the terrorists; and not significantly safer from natural disasters. The supposition of the question is that man-made terrorist attacks are the same as the act-of-God created natural disasters. I woke up at around 8:00 am to use the bathroom as I normally do at around the same time every day, because being 8 ½ months pregnant can really put a strain on a person’s bladder. So as I was saying I went to the bathroom and lay back down and turned on the T.V. It really wasn’t much on so I started flipping through the channels and I stopped on the news channel. Now it was like around 8:50 am and what I saw on the screen just looked like any regular accident. It was lots of smoke and fire. I never thought this was a evil plan put together by some very evil people. (I would like to say what I really believe, but that would be another story) So as I continued watching the live footage, you see people running and people trying to help and others just watching wondering what the hell was going on. At about 9 o’clock you see another plane fly low and BOOM!! It hit the second tower. Now as I’m watching this I’m screaming and yelling at the T.V. screen like “WATCH OUT”!, Like they could hear me or something.
