...Running head: Airport Security Airport Security Improvements Before and After the September 11, 2001 Terrorist Attack Andrew Fuller South Carolina State University Abstract The purpose of this study is to research improvements that have been made since the September 11, 2001 terrorist attack and study airport security before September 11. According to ABC News 4 much has changed in our country over the last seven years including airport security. Air travel has been greatly affected by 9/11. Security measures have caused an increase in passengers to face many more steps before boarding flights. In November 2001 The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) was formed to secure airports both inside and out. Statement of the Problem or Objective Since the September 11 attacks security as a whole has undergone drastic changes in America. All aspects have been upgraded and reevaluated to take all the necessary precautions to either prevent another event as such or to be better prepared if it were to happen again. In the past airport security was pretty basic. You arrived at the airport got checked in and left. Now you have to carry everything in little bottles and take your shoes off and other accessories to pass through the metal detectors. According to Security Solutions the most improvements have been made on airplanes. Cockpits are bullet proof and pilots and their crews are secured from the rest of...

...the functions and dysfunctions of immigration? Explain. I actually have a two-part answer for the contemporary immigration. If this was before September 11, 2001 then I believe that it would be because of the number of immigrants. The reason why I say this is because they may feel that the more immigrants that are let into the country, then the more will try to follow and maybe overflowed the US. Another reason could possibly be that they may not be comfortable surrounded by so many diverse immigrants and may actually get nervous. Or maybe they seem no stories on TV about different immigrants and may have some type of prejudice against them because of their culture or lifestyle. If this is after September 11 them I definitely believe it is because of their nationality. Since after September 11, 2001 people have been more on edge about diverse nationalities entering the US especially those from the Middle East. Before September 11, 2001 people were so awkward about a person wearing a turban, board the plane that they are on, after September 11, 2001 people are more observant of the surroundings especially when one there is a person what a turban on the plane or even just somebody who may look like they are not from the US or maybe a descendent of someone from the middle east. For example, globalization (Schaefer 2006, chapter14, pg 11) means global integration of financial markets and government policies. In some countries, this may be illegal or even forbidden due to laws of...

...Effects of September 11 on Consumer Behavior The world has never been the same since September 11 2001. Even though some people claim consumer behavior was not affected by this tragic event. They say almost no measurable changes have affected consumerism, and that otherwise businesses run under their usual gains and losses. I believe that business has indeed seen effects from the September 11 event. Several types of businesses have benefited from the increase of fear this incident created in people. Businesses such as insurance companies, weapons retailers, as well as real estate agencies have been somehow impacted positively. I believe that the insurance companies have seen an increase in their sales, because they have sold probably a higher amount of insurance during these times. As mentioned also, people started to buy more weapons than what they did before for greater sense of security for their families. A lot of movement has also happened for real estate, since a lot of people have decided to leave larger urban areas towards more rural locations. Other types of businesses have not been so lucky, either taking heavy losses or having to close down permanently. One example is our local downtown business, which used to be booming with business but now it has declined Border crossing security has been greatly augmented. As a result people from across stop coming across as often so a lot of business have closed, I believe these got to show that business did become affected...

...Jozelle Fleming RHT 101 026 Monday October 1, 2012 What was I doing on September 11, 2001? It was like any other morning. I woke up at around 8:00 am to use the bathroom as I normally do at around the same time every day, because being 8 ½ months pregnant can really put a strain on a person’s bladder. So as I was saying I went to the bathroom and lay back down and turned on the T.V. It really wasn’t much on so I started flipping through the channels and I stopped on the news channel. Now it was like around 8:50 am and what I saw on the screen just looked like any regular accident. It was lots of smoke and fire. I never thought this was a evil plan put together by some very evil people. (I would like to say what I really believe, but that would be another story) So as I continued watching the live footage, you see people running and people trying to help and others just watching wondering what the hell was going on. At about 9 o’clock you see another plane fly low and BOOM!! It hit the second tower. Now as I’m watching this I’m screaming and yelling at the T.V. screen like “WATCH OUT”!, Like they could hear me or something. Then it hit me at that exact moment all I could think was “O My God”, we are under attack. I could remember at that moment my stomach started hurting and I started feeling very scared. And all I could ask myself is “Do I really want to have my baby in this crazy world”? So of course now this terrible event that was taking place was now broadcasting...

...Anxiety at 35000 Feet Robert Clinton On September 11, 2001 something happened in the United States that changes things forever in the aviation world. There were airplanes that were deliberately crashed into mulitiple sights in the U.S. This was one of the worst terrorist attacks that the world has ever seen. Because there were aircraft used in the attack there was a huge impact on how everyone saw how to take to the skies. The vision of airliners crashing into buildings will forever be imprinted into people’s heads. None of the physiologist in the world could even prepare on how this was going to affect people and how they saw themselves flying. The psychologist have actually been involved in the aviation industry a lot even before this event. They have tried to understand what causes the anxiety in the air. What triggers the passenger to act the way they do in the air. Also trying to find out what is the best way to handle the passenger that is having the attack. Because of the attack on the U.S. a lot of the anxiety is the fear of crashing, even though the facts are that it is actually safer to fly then drive a car to the location. Anxiety in the air has a huge impact on the aviation community and has caused many flights to lad before their destination. This is one of the biggest studies for psychologist to this day. ...The Wounded Warrior Project is a charity and Veterans service organization that offers a variety of programs, services, and events for wounded veterans of the military actions following September 11, 2001. This non-profit organization was founded in 2003 by John Melia. It all got started when Melia started putting together backpacks with food, games, books, and other items to give to the wounded veterans in former Bethesda Naval Hospital. For all of the hard work that Wounded Warrior Project does, I want to try and help them gain more money so they can help more veterans. This Organization helps the wounded veterans by giving them a place to stay and food and water. There are many veterans out in the world today who need help and who are struggling to survive. The Wounded Warrior Project is very beneficial to society and have helped many wounded soldiers and...

...is the tenth anniversary of the September 11 attacks: a tragic incident that impacts every aspect of the Americans’ lives. This year, there are many television programs and commemorations dedicated to the victims of the September 11 attacks. In the end of a television broadcast, Billy Collins— who was appointed United States Laureate for the years 2001-2003 in June 2001— narrated his poem: “The Names.” “The Names” was presented to the public at the first anniversary of the incident. This poem is about the people whom we lost, and the horrid day which we experienced. The first thing we notice in this poem is the names mentioned within the poem. The final count of the September 11 attacks was 2,749. It is impossible for the author to incorporate all of the names in one poem. He uses all 26 letters to symbolize the names of all the victims; he chooses one name to represent each letter. Here is an example: “I started with A, with Ackerman, as it happened, then Baxter and Calabro, Davis and Eberling, names falling into place as droplets fell through the dark.” Among all the victims, some people were unaccounted for. The author assigns the letter X to represent those missing people: “Let X stand, if it can, for the ones unfound.” During the September 11 attacks, posters and signs were made to show whom the families were looking for. The missing people were announced on TV and radio broadcasts. On each anniversary of the September 11 attacks, we still can see or hear...

...the textual layout; the 50 gates. This circulates the idealisms of ‘Jewish Mysticism’ and creates a link to images of gates being unlocked. This unveils a truly compelling and unexpected insight. This is that, the past can hinder a blessing or curse as contrasted in the prologue: “The darkness or the light” symbolic for the juxtaposing outcomes. Such turbulent emotions are relevant in the memoir as history triggers memory but can encourage perhaps painful recollections. For example, Genia: “ruins, ruins” contemplating the atrocities of the Holocaust and “what I could have been if I had your life”. These unexpected and compelling insights of positive and negative portrayals of history and memory in terms of emotions are clear on the September 11 site. Memory giving history emotional context is represented in terms of hope from Lisa Lefler- a World Trade Center survivor “I have found one thing to help me get through day by day. I have been telling my story to anyone who wants to hear it.” Thus being optimistic in the most tragic times of humanity unlike Genia who wishes to hide. Conclusively supporting how Baker’s masterful work should definitely be part of your exhibition. When ‘Re-viewing the past’ it is critical to be observant of differing versions of the truth. Baker began his historical investigation being an authoritative figure following traditional methods of researching archival evidence. He is obsessed with his ‘fecks’ (parents) and begins his quest ignorant to...

...The 9/11 Commission conducted an extensive investigation, highlighting events leading up to and after the attack on New York City on September 11, 2001. The investigation concluded with a comprehensive report detailing all aspects of the incident. During the investigation, it was determined that a lack of interagency coordination and cooperation could have prevented the attack from occurring. Information sharing was key in identifying, detecting, and preventing thousands of people from losing their lives Consequently, the tragic event that took place on September 11, 2001, could have been avoided, should the Federal Aviation Administration have had access to database information controlled by the Central Intelligence Agencies (DHS 2015). The men that participated in the tragic event were on a terrorist watchlist controlled by the Central Intelligence Agencies. Unfortunately, during that time in history, no information was linked between agencies. Consequently, no specific agency is tasked “with piecing together the myriad bits of terrorist information into a single recognizable...
