There are many kinds of stressors that can make a person struggle; exams, marriage, separation, moving, economic difficulties, loss and death. According to the Social Readjustment Rating Scale (SRRS), the death of a spouse ranked 1st place as the highest stressor, with a score of 100 (Homes & Rahe, 1967). Serious illness diagnosis placed as the 6th major stressor, scoring at 53, just below the death of a close family member which had a score of 63 (Homes & Rahe, 1967). However, recent research found that personal injury or illness was the most stressful event in a more contemporary lifestyle, placing 3rd in SRRS (Scully et al., 2000 P875). Serious illnesses influence the patients and their families’ lives, and the majority of people are known …show more content…
Patients diagnosed with cancer frequently confuse their belief of a fair and safe world, and patients often express disorientation, confusion and anger accordingly. Some people believe that if they have led a good, healthy lifestyle and have followed the public knowledge of health, they should be immune to the harm of a life-threatening illness. Consequently, if they become sick or are diagnosed with an illness, they may feel it ‘unfair’. Usually, a patient’s anger is accompanied by covert behaviours such as being silent, moody, withdrawn, acting bitter, apathetic, asking loaded questions, refusing to see visitors, refusing to eat or drink, displaying indecisiveness or ambivalence, or forgetting to do important things (Carroll-Johnson, 2006). Physically, the patient may experience: an increase in heart rate and cardiac output to transport nutrients and by-products of metabolism more effectively; increase in rate and depth or respirations because of dilation of the bronchioles, promoting hyperventilation; dry mouth; increase in muscle tension to prepare for rapid motor activity or defence and increase in blood sugar because of the release of glucocorticoids and gluconeogenesis. Tort Law

...common law. The main considerations that have to be taken into account when deciding whether Autumn Bay High owed a duty of care to Persephone and Aphrodite are the reasonable foreseeability of nervous shock and whether their duty of care was non-delegable. Under the Civil Liability Act 2002 (NSW) “the defendant owes a duty of care to the plaintiff if they ought to have foreseen that a person of normal fortitude might, in the circumstances of the case, suffer a recognized psychiatric illness if reasonable care were not taken”. It has been established through Tame v New South Wales & Annetts v Australian Stations Pty Limited[1] that reasonable foreseeability of mental harm is a precondition of the existence of a duty of care. Taking the provisions of the Civil Liability Act 2002 (NSW) into account, the fact that the school is taking its students on a ski trip already establishes a general duty of care. It is reasonably foreseeable that such an activity poses the possibility of serious injuries if adequate supervision is not provided. In addition to this, it is not fanciful or far-fetched that witnessing a horrific physical injury to a fellow student can cause sudden shock and consequential mental harm to a person. While Aphrodite witnesses the actual accident, and sees her best friend Mali land on some rocks with his legs and arms twisted below him, Persephone witnesses the aftermath, a horrific sight of Mali lying on the ground in a pool of blood with his twisted limbs...

Scenario 1: Jeremiah went grocery shopping on a hot summer day. He bought food for an upcoming family BBQ; ground beef for hamburgers, a couple of steaks, and the ingredients for making potato salad. When he left the store, he put his groceries in the trunk and stopped by the sports outlet store to pick up a Frisbee and croquet set. It took about 10 minutes at the sports store, and then Jeremiah headed home to prepare the food. He was concerned that it had been too hot in the car, but everything was still cold when he got home. Jeremiah took the groceries home and put everything in the refrigerator. The meat fit well on the top shelf, right above the potato salad ingredients. Later on, he got the groceries out to prep everything for the BBQ. He cooked the potatoes and used a sharp knife to trim some excess fat off of the raw steaks. Then he cut up the rest of the vegetables for the potato salad with the sharp knife on a cutting board. Jeremiah formed the hamburger patties, seasoned the steaks, and finished making the potato salad. With only about 45 minutes to go before leaving for the BBQ, Jeremiah left everything sitting out on the counter while he showered and got ready. When he arrived at the BBQ, he set the potato salad on the picnic table and went to grill the steaks and burgers. He cooked both to about...

...health to him to give him a chance to decide what is right or wrong for himself. We can only choose what’s ethically right or wrong in our own case scenario, and should give other people the chance to decide for themselves. I feel that if the doctor was unsure he could approach the situation as if he was asking advice about another patient condition, before he told the patient whom he was talking about. Dealing with good vs. evil sometimes we make decisions to benefit our personal feelings, we tend to not analyze how what we consider good or evil will affect our lives and others. We can identify this as being selfish human beings. Withholding information from the pilot would be considered as an evil act to me. Discussing what’s known about the pilots health is to me a common good. Although sometimes it is inevitable to escape evil or negatively impactful decisions during sometime in our lives, human make decisions based on what they individually feel. Furthermore, the doctor probably felt that the pilot should be ok until his retirement time, but we can rely on should haves or ought have when it comes to someone’s life and the severity of their health. We can base educated guesses on a serious matter such as this one. The condition is real and what is happening and should be acted upon as the level of seriousness it is. In this scenario...

This defense fixes problems with the mentally insane and leads to curing more of the mentally ill. Viewing the defense as a benefit seems to fit if it helps more people than it harms, although other views have been brought against it opposing the defense. The jurisdictions that have kept the defense see it rarely and take it as a claim of innocence. The innocent people who have severe mental illness might finally have an opportunity to become viable members of society through rehabilitation. This plea may also shed light on the severity and seriousness that mental illness plays in our communities as these individuals are of great...

International Human Rights

...depth of the issues at hand, it is essential to have a little background knowledge in terms of what international criminal law constitutes. International criminal law is a body of international law designed to prohibit certain categories of conduct commonly viewed as serious atrocities and to make perpetrators of such conduct criminally accountable for their perpetration. It is essential not just for the purpose of the assignment but for the subject as a whole to simplify first and foremost the core elements and then to tackle the issues in the paper. Having this at the back of the mind, I shall now proceed to tackle the issues in the problem question. The first thing that can be identified in general is the fact that the topic revolves around genocide. What is genocide ? A general definition of genocide is the deliberate killing of a large group of people, especially those of a particular ethnic group or nation. I stress this definition of genocide as “general” due to the fact that there are indeed too many loopholes regarding it e.g what is regarded as a group but that is a discussion for another day. Let us now tackle the issues in the scenario. The first thing we can identify in the scenario is the presence of authority. We are told that General Davic is a a Serbian commander of paramilitary forces. He also forced young children to engage in the acts through the use of his troops. He also instructed them to rape the women which is a crime under Article...
