Riordan Manufacturing, Inc. is an industry leader in the field of plastic injection molding and was founded in 1991 by Dr. Riordan. The company has facilities in San Jose, California, Albany, Georgia, Pontiac, Michigan and Hangzhou, China with its research and development stationed at the corporate headquarters in San Jose, California. The company provides parts and services to the Department of Defense, aircraft manufacturers, appliance manufacturers, beverage makers, and automotive parts manufacturers.
A new system is necessary to modernize its current Human Resources Information System which was developed in 1992. Currently, there is no single data repository in place. Whenever there is a need to change an employee’s information, the manager has to submit a request in writing and the payroll clerk will have to enter it manually into the system. Every manager keeps employees’ files individually, and a third-party company keeps the worker’s compensation records. Another manager keeps the information of job analysis results, salary surveys, and individual compensation assessments. A new system wide web based application that allows the managers to seamlessly merge and access all employees’ data, and allows employees and managers to access Human Resources data and interface data from every site plant is necessary.
Information Gathering Techniques
First, we need to identify the current location of paper and electronic data storage location. Then, a team of database analysts will need to sort the data and delete all duplicate entries, so that the data that is being migrated to the new system will be accurate. We will also create and submit a network structure diagram for each site that shows how each plant is networked together.
