...The fantasy literature of Cinderella was introduced by many cultures and every culture seems to have its own version. Cinderella stories date back as early as 850 A. D. with the first written version of Chinese tale yeh-shen (Cinderella: A cross-cultural story by Patricia w. Kite) Even though Cinderella is a fantasy story it shows many meaning to the character that portrays Cinderella. In many cultures there are stories of Cinderella where every girl dreams of having a Prince charming. The story of Cinderella is a fairy tale that is told and read to children of very young ages (ALA American Library Association) Research shows that many versions have been found first in Europe and the story tale origins appear to date back to a Chinese story from the ninth century. (ALA American Library Association) The book Chinese Cinderella by Adeline Yen Mah is a story portrayed by a very young girl who mother died giving birth to her. Cinderella lived with her family who thought she was bad luck to them, therefore she was discriminated against and treated very bad. ...Concept review for internal secondary data A real world example I can come up with is Netflix’s production of House of Cards. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/House_of_Cards_%28U.S._TV_series%29 http://www.nytimes.com/2013/02/25/business/media/for-house-of-cards-using-big-data-to-guarantee-its-popularity.html?pagewanted=all&_r=0 http://www.ukessays.com/essays/marketing/netflix-case-analysis-marketing-essay.php http://www.fastcodesign.com/1671893/the-secret-sauce-behind-netflixs-hit-house-of-cards-big-data [pic] According to lots of observation and information, this TV series was produced on the basis of big data. In this presentation, we can comprehend big data as internal secondary data. It’s risky to start the production of House of Cards, because its budget is high( 50 millions dollars), and it really focus on some sensitive issues. Right now, this series, directed by David Fincher, starring Kevin Spacey and based on a popular British series, is already the most streamed piece of content in the United States and 40 other countries, according to Netflix. But it’s a not surprise to anyone in Netflix, because they had predicted a big success for House of Cards after making good use of their secondary internal data. In our presentation, we can cover all the concepts in our parts by explaining how House of Cards is produced. The data Netflix wants to use is the data of Netflix’s subscribers. This data comes from Netflix itself, so it must be internal. Also, it’s gathered for...

...Rose. The quote above shows how Jeremy has the power to invade Ms. Rose’s personal belongings, but he simply chooses not to exercise his power. He is described as someone who simply cannot be bothered with things like constraining his sister. Apart from that, he shows no inclination to step up and rule his household. This is seen when he lets his sister take charge. Because of Jeremy’s personality, Ms. Rose is easily able to step up and successfully be in charge of the household. Not only is this seen in Allende’s novel, but also in Alvarez’s In the Time of the Butterflies. Just like Ms. Rose is able to rule her household with the consent of her brother, Patría is the one in charge. This is shown when her husband Pedrito is against the idea of the rebellion meeting in his territory. Although her husband argues against it, Patría wins him over. This is shown when she says, “He didn’t have to say it, that he was with us now” (Alvarez 165-166). Although the husband claims to be the head of the household, the one who makes decisions at...

...The Worst Trip to Disneyland It was a cloudy, rainy day that wasn’t starting out great for me. I sat up in the same bed I'd slept in for the past four days and the first thought that ran through my head was, June 29. Today I leave New York with my mom, stepdad, step brother, and I, had spent the last week in the state of New York the first three in Long Island for a golf tournament and the last four in the city. I hadn't done half the things I'd wanted to do nor had I seen half the things I wanted to see, but everything must come to an end and so this trip must to, as much as I didn't want it to or so I thought... We didn't even need to leave the city for the airport until noon, so we went to go see the massive library in the middle of Manhattan. Too early, it was time to head back to the hotel and grab our baggage before grabbing a taxi to the airport. At the airport, we got all checked in and passed security without any issues. At the gate, the four of us sat in the plush black chairs. About fifteen minutes before we were scheduled for departure, the flight attendants called our seat numbers and we filed onto the plane. In our seats, we carefully stowed our carry-ons and lightly fought over the window seat. The rest of the plane boarded, we were all buckled in, and were just waiting for the flight attendant to come and explain the safety features so we could be in the air. After about fifteen minutes of waiting about five minutes after our scheduled departure we weren't...

...This is the very well-known story of a young woman with a wicked stepmother. The young woman was kind and sweet with a gentle nature. But her two stepsisters had their mother’s (wicked stepmother) mannerisms and bad temper. In-turn, the kind young woman (Cinderella) got her kind and gentle nature from her mother, the first wife of the worthy man. The second wife showed her true colors shortly after getting married to the worthy man. The stepmother’s bad temper and wicked ways came out into the open. Cinderella was given very hard tasks around the house to do. After the chores, Cinderella was to sit among the cinders around by the fireplace chimney, from this she was to be known as Cinder-clod. Cinderella also had to sleep on a wretched mattress in a garret on the top of the house. Even though Cinderella was a pretty girl, her wretched clothes still did not prevented her from being hundreds of times more beautiful than her stepsisters. Plus her stepsisters had resplendent garments. In this classic story, I had originally forgotten it to the point that all I reread in the packet was mostly new to me. But after being familiarized with it, this wonderful story stored in memory came back in full force. When the king’s son (the prince) gave a ball, he invited all the higher up people. The two mean stepsisters of Cinderella were invited, but not her. What I found mean and reprehensible was the fact that Cinderella had went over the two meanies linen and ironed out their ruffles so they...

...The Death of a Butterfly “Las Mariposas”, The Butterflies, is the codename given to the Mirabal sisters upon their emergence into the Dominican Revolution. While the name grew from Minerva’s underground name, it also took on a symbol of hope, change, and transformation behind the suppression of the Dominican people. Throughout the novel each sister represents a different stage of the butterfly life cycle: Dede as an Egg, Patria as a caterpillar, Maria as a Pupa, and Minerva as an adult; each respective stage symbolizes the different levels of courage and sacrifice devoted to their country’s freedom from tyrant Rafael Trujillo. Alvarez uses symbolism in “The Time of the Butterflies” to suggest that the price of freedom paid by the Mirabal Sisters was not worth the cost when butterflies have such short lives. Butterflies have grown to symbolize a variety of different meanings throughout history and culture. Their metamorphosis is typically construed as a representation of change, purity, and rebirth, while some cultures view butterflies as a depiction of the soul or a transition between lives. Dede takes on the “Egg” stage of the butterfly life cycle as her character faces many obstacles despite being the least involved sister. Like the egg, Dede remains planted firmly where she was laid. “A chill goes through her, for she feels it in her bones, the future is now beginning. By the time it is over, it will be the past, and she doesn’t want to be the only one left to tell their...

...READING AND VIEWING GUIDE Title: Cinderella | I think it means: It’s the name of the main protagonist in the story, it means “of the ashes” in French. This is because after Cinderella would finish her work, she would sit at the corner of the chimney where there were cinders and ashes. | Key Words and Phrases: 1.)“Cinderwench”2.) “There came thither the finest princess, the most beautiful ever was seen with mortal eyes; she showed us a thousand civilities, and gave us oranges and citrons.” | I think these words are included because…1.) “Cinderwench” is what Cinderella’s elder stepsister called her to mock her, cinder because she was dirty and wench because it means servant or a prostitute. 2.) This phrase was said by Cinderella’s stepsister to her and what’s ironic is that the “finest princess” she’s talking about is Cinderella. This shows that her stepsisters find her to be really attractive but are just jealous. | Big Ideas and Quotations:“When she got home she ran to seek out her godmother, and, after having thanked her, she said she could not but heartily wish she might go next day to the ball, because the King's son had desired her.” | I remember this because…This quote shows that Cinderella was indeed very special, since she impressed the Prince and he choose her over the several other girls at the ball. | Resolution: The Prince falls in love with Cinderella and marries her. | I think the Big Idea is…That there is hope for everyone and that the good path...

..."Every decision you make shapes your own destiny." In the time of the butterflies, Julia Alvarez has two characters by the name of Minerva and Patria Mirabal. This book is a great book to read. The Mirabals were farmers in the Dominican Republic . The sisters grew up in a middle class, cultured environment raised by Enrique Mirabal Fernandez and Mercedes Reyes Camilo. The four sisters married and raised families. Unlike her sisters, Dede never attended college, and instead worked as a homemaker and helped out run the family business in agriculture and Cattle. "Family is all you have sometimes." The Mirabal sisters are a very interesting group of people. I will be comparing Patria and and Minerva. Minerva and Patria are both pretty girls. They were both married, and we're both very sensitive and nice. Now in the book the sisters go through a lot of hard times. They almost get killed and some do get killed. It was almost as if they were slaves being held captive by a white man yet it was them being held captive by Trujillo. Back then the girls weren't treated as girls they were basically treated like a man if you would say so. But it seems as if as long as they have each other they'd be fine. Even though their dad died and all that other bad stuff they still had each other and they still survived until basically the end of the book. "When love is unconditional, life is good." There is so much love in this book. That's why people get married, that's why people join together...

...Alex had an admirable relationship with his wife and his two children. Alex decided to be unfaithful to his wife with Danielle. He left his wife to go after what he wanted, which was Danielle. He was risking the love of his children and his commodity of his old life. Alex story relates to the quote, “To gain that which is worth having, it may be necessary to lose everything else,” by Bernadette Devlin. The interpretation of this quote is in order for a person to get what they want; they have to be willing to lose everything. Like Alex the characters in In the Time of the Butterflies by Julia Alvarez are willing to risk everything through the characters of Lina, Patria and Minerva. Those characters agree with the quote because they are willing to lose everything in order to get what they want. In the Time of the Butterflies, Lina, a student, meets Trujillo, the president of Dominican Republic, at Inmaculada Concepcion. Trujillo had been watching Lina over a balcony near the school and insisted on seeing her. When they met Trujillo gave her a medal. After the meeting, he would visit her and send her gifts. Sinita asked Lina if she had fallen in love with Trujillo and Lina answered, “With all my heart,” (22). The day of Lina’s birthday Trujillo throws her a party. Then goes on a week vacation with him or so the girls at Inmaculada Concepcion thought. The girls at the school loved and adored Lina and didn’t understand why she didn’t want to come back to them since they treated her...

...It started with the fairy godmother, portrayed by the very talented and bubbly Sadie Vaughn, standing in a giant tree, singing the opening song and giving the opening monologue. The set behind her was hard to see from the dark, but I could see it was built like a village. It was for the next scene, where all the village people are shopping and mingling, the evil stepmother and sisters were shopping and arguing, and Cinderella and Christopher, AKA the prince, first meet. I felt as though this scene did a fantastic job of giving off that “normal day in the village” vibe. The characters were always busy doing something, so there was never a dull moment on stage. The next scene transitioned into Cinderella’s house, where the stepmother and stepsisters talked about their big plans for the ball and who they think the prince will choose as his bride. Meanwhile, Cinderella thinks she will be able to go, so she gets out her mother’s old dress and shows her stepmother. The stepmother, perfectly played by Savanna Day, then proceeds to tell her she is forbidden to go to the ball and rips her dress. Cinderella, played by the lovely...

...her father asks what he should bring back from the town for the girls. The step sisters asked for dresses and pearls, while Cinderella asked for a branch from the tree that first hits him on his way home. Cinderella planted that branch and it grew into a beautiful tree. A bird lived in the tree and it listened to what she wanted and gave it to her. One day, the girls heard that the prince was looking for a bride and they were all invited to a party. Cinderella had to clean up the lentils before she could go to the party. After cleaning them up twice in a very short time her stepmother still refused to let her go. She didn’t follow the rules and ended up running to the ball, and back home. The next day, she did the same thing, but this time her shoe was stuck in the doorway and she had to leave with only one shoe. The next day the prince went to their house, and the two evil stepsisters both tried to get their foot in the shoe. The first one cut off her big toe and rode away with the prince, but doves help him realize that her foot was bleeding and that she was not the right girl. Then the younger sister tried on the shoe, and and ends up cutting off her heal to make it fit. Same thing happens again, the prince realizes she’s not the shoes owner and returns her back to her house. He finds Cinderella in the house, and she tries the shoe on. It’s a perfect fit. He starts impressing her, and then, on her seventeenth birthday, takes her away to a party at a new house. She never comes back. Lina had gotten pregnant, Trujillo's wife had gotten mad and tried to kill her, and so Trujillo had shipped her off to Miami. She serves as an example story for all the other girls who might succumb to El Jefe. When Lina became pregnant with trujillo I believe best defined her character because she was the oldest out of the girls and should have known better. She fell in love with a married man and had gotten pregnant with his child, lina should have been more careful and...
