Sevier County is credited to being formed on September 18th, 1794 (About). Although, Sevier County’s formation can be further traced back in time according to a Sevier County historian, Beulah Linn. She states that Sevier County’s initial birthday is nearly a decade before the formation in 1794. According to her, Sevier County was first formed under the failed State of Franklin in 1785, nine years before its official formation in 1794. During the middle of the 1500’s when Spanish exploration for gold was in full swing, Hernando de Soto and Juan Pardo both passed through what is now Sevier County.
