According to the report, Shawna Hardesty who was employed as a nursing assistant at Fountain City nursing home for a year was fired in August 2010 after she punched a 93-year-old patient in the head three times with a fist. A large “baseball-sized” bruise was on the forehead of the patient. Hardesty would punch her patient every time she came into her room, such as after breakfast. The administrator of the nursing home was interviewed and said they train employees how to deal with stress, and how to treat patients properly as safety is important to them. In this report, Hardesty was charged with physical abuse which is purposely hurting another person’s body. This is because it wasn’t an accident that she punched her patient’s body leaving a bruise if she would punch her every time she enters her room. Furthermore, because the nursing assistant actually touched the patient who didn’t want to be touched and injured her forehead, Hardesty could also be charged with battery. Battery is actually touching someone in an unwelcome or harmful way.…show more content… If this was the case, the patient might not allow any nursing assistants to come near her in fear of being punched again. The patient might think no one appreciates her and loves her, because she is getting punched instead of being well-cared-for. This could lead to reduced self-esteem, sadness and hopelessness and other abnormal emotions and feelings that she might not exhibit previously. She might be secluded more in her room and would prefer to be left alone and cry. On the other hand, she could also be confused, puzzled, and angered as she figures out why she is getting punched. She might be more violent and cruel as she retaliates, and her family could sue the nursing
