“Shells” by Cynthia Rylant is a realistic short story about a fourteen- year -old boy who learns to live with his aunt after his parents’ deaths. Michael is cared for. Michael had to live with his aunt Esther since nobody would take Michael, to take care of him. In the beginning, Michael had to live with his aunt after his parents died. They didn’t get along that well, and aunt Esther couldn't feel how much pain Michael is in. Soon, Michael brought home a hermit crab, because he was lonely. Aunt Esther thought that sluggo was lonely, so they went to the pet store, and bought 20 hermit In the end, Michael and aunt Esther finally got along, when he smelt his mother's talc. When they went over to the tank they finally saw sluggo coming out of his shell. This story shows that Michael had to work his way through the tough moment.…show more content… For example, in paragraph 62, the authors says “michael sensed a familiar smell.” In paragraph 48, for example, Michael's aunt Esther was so excited over hermit crabs, “Oh look at those shells, you say they grow out of them?” Example: In paragraph 61, Michael had just gotten into another fight with his Aunt Esther. She accused him of hating her.”no” he said. He then went upstairs and slammed the door behind him. That doesn’t mean you you hate one person that blames you because they think you hate them when you don’t. This proves that michael is cared for, because he would of have not have a home if it wasn’t for aunt
