...Pansamantala Lahat ng bagay sa mundong ito may hangganan, nawawala at natatapos. Bakit nga ba kailangan natin mabuhay kung mamamatay din naman tayo? Bakit kailangan may yumayaman? May humihirap? May lumiliit? May lumalaki? Bakit may nag mamahal at may nasasaktan? Bakit kita nakilala? Sabi mo mahal ma ko. Pero iniwan mo ko eh. Sabi mo forever tayo. San na yun? Sabi mo hindi mo ko bibitawan. Ang unfair no. Napakasakit pala talagang magmahal.. They call me Yannie. Long legged, chinita, di katangusan ang ilong pero keri na. May kaya din kami. Madami akong suitors. ...to picking- up men. The rules that Ovid describes in The Art of Love are similar to the rules that most people follow in the “cruising and catching” game because they are effective and produce results, although not all the rules described in Ovid’s book are still used, a great majority of them are and have not changed after so many years. My overall perception for Ovid’s poem would be that of surprise. I would describe it as surprising because the “moves” that were implemented thousands of years ago are still very accurate and being used today. What Ovid’s poem tells me is that the “game” between men and women has not changed even though men and women have. Although most of the rules that Ovid writes about are now common sense in the dating world, such as choosing the best place to meet women just as fishermen know the best places to cast their nets to catch fish, and are followed by everyone. Ovid’s poem must have been written by experiences that he had and by the experiences that yielded the best results. In order for him to write a poem that describes what goes on today, just shows that no matter what year or time, the guidelines to picking up women and men are still the same, although there may be some rules that my need to be tweaked because they just don’t work or are frowned upon, such as the rule he has of forcibly coming onto women, almost raping them although they don’t want it even though deep down inside they truly do. Comparing what Ovid says about...

...there is cause for speculation. In my opinion, Emily’s father thinking no one was good enough for his daughter contributed to Emily’s mental state and downfall. In the eyes of Emily’s father, no one was good enough for his daughter. Potential suitors were rejected because they didn’t meet the father’s standards. So, it should come to no surprise that Emily was thirty and single. I don’t believe it was until after her father’s death that Emily realized she was truly alone. Emily’s father did leave her the house, but that was all she had. Alone in a big house with no husband or family, I doubt Emily was happy. The sadness must have taken a toll on Emily because she went out less. Even though she went out less, in due time Emily started dating Homer Barron, a Yankee, who liked men. Why would a woman court a closeted gay man? Loneliness is the reason; Emily wanted companionship, she wanted to feel loved as every woman does. Emily courting Homer even though he is gay shows she doesn’t have all her marbles. If Emily’s father had let her date, there is a chance she would have been married by the time of his death, and then there would have been no need for Homer. Since Emily wasn’t given the opportunity to date, she had to settle for Homer, a gay day laborer. Emily never had a man to call her own until Homer, so it’s no surprise she didn’t want him to get away. So what does one do when one wishes to be with one's companion forever? Kill him, or at least that’s what Emily did. The...

...Dates are typically known as a social or romantic meet-up between two people. The couple goes out to a location together where two people have a romantic interest in each other. This sort of romantic interest could be described through the couple’s one romantic feelings towards another, the feelings such as love, a simple crush, or seeing if there is a possibility for a romantic relationship. Whether they want to go out to a mini-golf course or a high-class event, the final point is that the most important part of your date is the person along with them. They can be classified by the destination as a fancy date, a casual get together or an entertaining extravaganza. A formal date is most commonly stereotyped as a candlelit dinner surrounded...

...The Hook-up generation has changed the meaning of what we used to call dating in a more traditional way in America Culture. As we can recall in how the whole dating game started it begun by a simple old-fashion way for the guy taking the first step to approach the girl and ask her for a date. Moreover, and after a while of them dating this relationship had the potential to developed into a more serious relationship, and perhaps a marriage proposal from the guy to the girl as his future bride to form a family later on. In recent decades, all of this had been changed by what we know as the Hook-up Culture in America. Although, the Hook-up life style has many sexual pleasures the people enjoy but, it too has a serious risk factors to consider...

...One of the most fascinating areas of covert persuasion to learn is the dating game. It's interesting how so many people who are attracted to each other try to hide it. We spend just as much time trying to hide our attraction towards other people as we do trying to make ourselves appear attractive. This is the reason why the persuasion secrets of dating science are vital. Males and females have so much tension between themselves that it doesn't feel safe to expose our feelings. It doesn't feel safe to just walk up to someone and begin a conversation with them. For this reason we want other people to walk up to us. We want other people to dissolve our insecurities by approaching us. The problem is that this is not always the way things work in the art of persuasion. At every...

...Ellason Boyle ENG 3U Mr. Zago January 9 2012 Self-Discovery in ‘She’s Come Undone’ Self-discovery, by definition, is the act or process of achieving understanding or knowledge of oneself or, in other words, identifying your own individuality. To understand who you are is extremely important if one wants to live life to the fullest and enjoy every moment. In reality, people struggle every day to uncover who they really are and for Ms. Price, this was no exception. Her life was not always stable which made her journey to discover herself extremely strenuous. Dolores Price, the main character in ‘She’s Come Undone’ by Wally Lamb, had many traumatic events that occurred during her life that persuaded her to discover who her inner self was as well as therapy and significant symbols that meant a lot to her through her journey. To begin with, Dolores Price had to overcome many traumatic and negative memorable events that life supplied her with. The thing that started it all was the miscarriage of her little brother Anthony and the separation of her mother and father. She, like a normal child caught in the middle of their parent’s separation, feels like the separation was her fault and that she could have prevented it. Another scarring event that she was forced to endure was being raped by her neighbour, Jack Speight, in eighth grade. After being raped Rita, Jack’s wife, has a miscarriage and Dolores, again, thinks that this is her fault. These lead to the other major problems...

...Advantages of Online Dating I was very fortunate in finding a partner to spend my life with. I married my childhood friend and high school sweetheart. While my friends were spending most of their free time in bars searching for the right person, I was building on an already established relationship. While this was not the path laid out for me, I have known people who have had success using online dating sites. These people’s experiences have shown me that there are some tremendous advantages to online dating. Online dating exposes individuals to a wider variety of potential partners in an environment with less pressure than traditional dating. Online dating exposes people to an almost unlimited pool of potential partners. Traditional dating not only limits a person geographically, it also limits them to their own social circles. When using dating sites, these limitations are lifted and individuals are exposed to a larger group of people. A very good friend of mine found this fact to be very useful. After exhausting a variety of things like church functions and singles groups, she found herself very discouraged. Once she widened her range of dating candidates through online dating, she was able to find love with someone from another area. By increasing the range of candidates, she increased her chances for a successful relationship. The reason online dating is becoming so popular is because many people can benefit from these increased candidate pools...

Let’s see if I can be of service to your follow-up questions. 1. What did Bidder’s Edge do that was different than eBay’s normal customers? Why does it matter to eBay? Answer: Well, Bidder’s Edge tried to be sneaky and go through the back door of eBay to do automated searches to reach potential customers. This made Bidder’s Edge guilty of trespassing. It mattered to eBay because this could cause instability in running their computer system. Also, the court noted eBay’s user agreement that prohibited automated access by Bidder’s Edge. The allowed the court to rule in eBay’s favor. 2...

...The advent of the internet has made having an illicit affair easier than ever before. Their company mandate “Life is short, have an affair”. Based in Toronto, Ashley Madison is an online dating service marketed to people who are already in a relationship. The company encourages discreet encounters through its controversial slogan “Life is short, have an affair”. The company’s website goes as far as to guarantee an affair within three months of signing, providing full refunds to customers who failed to have an affair in that time period. The question that comes to mind is, is Ashley Madison profitable? Given what a controversial subject this company is based on, you might expect the opposite. However, while Ashley Madison has had trouble marketing its website due to ethical considerations of stakeholders, it is a company that has had financial success over a prolonged period of time without showing detrimental signs of leaving anytime soon. As one of the only companies in the industry of dating for married people, Ashley Madison has seen increasing growth in its member base, now at 32 million members. Since its launch in 2001, Ashley Madison has accumulated 110 employees and now operates in over 30 countries. An interesting case discussed in class was whether or not the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) should invest in Ashley Madison. In 2009, Ashley Madison offered to purchase $200,000 worth of advertising on TTC streetcars. The planned campaign featured a streetcar’s...

...Critical Thinking Portfolio Task Topic 1: Meaning of Life: Economics of Life Rebecca Marshall – 08099405 Online dating has increased in popularity over the last few years with the most recent RSVP Date of the Nation Report (2014) showing online dating as the second most preferred way to meet a new partner compared to the 2012 RSVP report which showed online dating as the fifth preferred option (Medianet, 2015). There are a number of benefits to online dating that may have contributed to its rising popularity. A network externality will occur as more and more people become familiar with and confident in using online dating platforms, expanding the pool of potential suitors. Specific group dating sites have also been created that provide a mechanism for assortative mating (homogamy) preferences whereby individuals are able to select potential partners based on similarities such as environment, education, socio economic status, aesthetics and a range of other categories, increasing the chances of finding a suitable partner while keeping search costs low. To further reduce search costs, signalling, such as sending an e-rose, can be used by individuals to narrow the pool of potential partners to those of particular interest, increasing the chances of acceptance by 20% (Lee & Niederle, 2014). However, online dating also has its negatives as information is shared in an environment where cheap talk can distort the information, such as appearance attributes, due it...
