“I was absolutely bathed in love. I as so young, starting at age 3, that working seemed normal. I thought everyone went to work.” There aren’t many children working at age 3, and if they are it is usually in entertainment. This quote is from none other than Shirley Temple. By the age of 6, Shirley Temple was already a common household name across the country. She was, as some would say a “triple threat”: acting, singing, and dancing, on a nationwide stage. Shirley had a short entertainment career, but a long and successful life afterwards. Shirley Temple was born on April 23, 1928, in Santa Monica, California. Shirley’s parents helped her land a contract with Educational Pictures at just the age of 3 years old. Then shortly followed this by enrolling her in dance classes a short few months later. At the age of 4, Shirley was …show more content…
The first performance I analyzed of Shirley’s was “The Little Colonel,” spoken about earlier with Bojangles. Shirley’s feet were so quick for her small body and her small feet exerted so much force on the steps to create loud sounds on the steps. Even though Temple was short and the stairs were tall, it did not faze her; she was able to climb up and down the steps in unison with Bojangles. The next performance I watched was “Magic Wooden Shoes.” In this performance, she sang and tap-danced; her steps were graceful with smooth and rhythmic patterns, unlike most kids her age. In “The Littlest Rebel” Shirley’s quick feet and animated personality captivated me. Temple, along with Bojangles once again, was able to tell her story through her facial expressions and movement throughout the set. The final performance I watched of Temple’s was “The Litttlest Princess.” This performance was when she was a bit older, and you could tell she had quicker and more advanced movements than previous dance routines I had

...INSTITUTIONS AND DEVELOPMENT By Mary M. Shirley 1 1. THE CHALLENGE OF DEVELOPMENT Developed countries are the exception, not the rule. Billions of dollars of aid and countless hours of advice notwithstanding, most countries have not been able to foster sustained growth and social progress. Increasingly research has shown that weak, Cross-country missing or perverse institutions are the roots of underdevelopment. regressions persistently demonstrate large and statistically significant correlations between institutional variables and growth, and in horse races between variables, an index of institutional quality “trumps” geography or trade as an explanation for growth (Rodrik, et al. 2002). To meet the challenge of development countries need two distinct and not necessarily complementary sets of institutions: (i) those that foster exchange by lowering transaction costs and encouraging trust, and (ii) those that influence the state to protect private property rather than expropriate it. 1 The first set of institutions includes contracts and contract enforcement mechanisms, commercial norms and rules, and habits and beliefs favoring shared values and the accumulation of human capital. Among the second set of institutions are constitutions, electoral rules, laws governing speech and education, and legal and civic norms. Today’s underdeveloped countries must acquire these institutions under particularly difficult conditions -- in a global market competing with already...

Public Transit

...Discussion and Conclusion Appendix: Images Bibliography Introduction In recent decades, one of the main arguments in relation to increasing transport demand and changing commuting pattern has focused on urban growth. Many existing studies have found strong evidence between land development and travel behaviors. Global urban sprawl has been accompanied by changes in individuals’ housing and employment locations, which in turn brings changes in commuting time, distance and destination. However, there are relatively few studies that explore the role of public transportation in this linkage. Revealing the form and function of public transit can explain existing transport commuting dilemma and argue for long-term management strategies. This paper therefore focuses on the role of public transportation in spatial development-travel behavior linkage and raises the following question: can...

Bloodlines of the Illuminati

...Bloodlines of Illuminati by: Fritz Springmeier, 1995 Introduction: I am pleased & honored to present this book to those in the world who love the truth. This is a book for lovers of the Truth. This is a book for those who are already familiar with my past writings. An Illuminati Grand Master once said that the world is a stage and we are all actors. Of course this was not an original thought, but it certainly is a way of describing the Illuminati view of how the world works. The people of the world are an audience to which the Illuminati entertain with propaganda. Just one of the thousands of recent examples of this type of acting done for the public was President Bill Clinton’s 1995 State of the Union address. The speech was designed to push all of the warm fuzzy buttons of his listening audience that he could. All the green lights for acceptance were systematically pushed by the President’s speech with the help of a controlled congressional audience. The truth on the other hand doesn’t always tickle the ear and warm the ego of its listeners. The light of truth in this book will be too bright for some people who will want to return to the safe comfort of their darkness. I am not a conspiracy theorist. I deal with real facts, not theory. Some of the people I write about, I have met. Some of the people I expose are alive and very dangerous. The darkness has never liked the light. Yet, many of the secrets of the Illuminati are locked up tightly simply because secrecy is a way...

California Agricultural Experiment Station Giannini Foundation of Agricultural Economics May, 1999 FALLACIES IN DEVELOPMENT THEORY AND THEIR IMPLICATIONS FOR POLICY. by Irma Adelman I. Introduction No area of economics has experienced as many abrupt changes in leading paradigm during the post Word War II era as has economic development. Since economic development is a policy science, the twists and turns in development economics have had profound implications for development policy. Specifically, the dominant development model has determined policy prescriptions concerning the desirable: role of government in the economy; its degree of interventionism; the form interventionism; and the nature of government-market interactions. Changes in both theory and policy prescriptions arise mainly from the following five sources: First, there is learning. As our empirical and theoretical knowledge-base enlarges, new theoretical propositions, or new evidence concerning either resounding real-world successes...

The Poor and Their Money

...why many choose not to use the services that are available) remains partial at best. This essay takes the reader on a ‘voyage of discovery’ that seeks to both deepen her/his understanding and encourage her/him to apply that knowledge to the practice of microfinance. The voyage that Stuart Rutherford offers is a unique one based upon years of careful and detailed personal research. It does not take a deductive approach that develops a theoretical model of the financial behaviour of poor people. Nor does it follow the ‘case study plus best practice’ approach that has been favoured by many practitioners when they write of microfinance. Instead, it adopts an inductive approach - based on thousands of conversations and meetings with poor people discussing what financial services they use and need - backed up by the personal experience of running an experimental microfinance institution (SafeSave). This is an innovative methodology and one that courts considerable risks, not least that it might produce many interesting insights but no clear analysis. However, by tempering reflection with action research these risks are...
