...Then finally it concludes that the chorus conveys the emotion of the scene and help the audience to be absorbed in the play. Introduction In traditional Noh dramas, some passages of the play are chanted by a chorus instead of by the main characters such as the shite and the waki. In modern performances, this chorus (ji-utai) sits at the side of the stage as a group. Unlike the primary actors, the member of the chorus do not wear an elaborate costume. The choruses play a significant role for the Noh performance because half of the text are chanted by the ji-utai. For example, the chorus sometimes play the role of the Shite(principle actor) and sometimes becomes a narrator in a same play. However, the meaning of those chorus’s chanting is covered in mystery with various views. Therefore, this essay will introduce two significant opinions which describes the meaning of the chorus, standing in a different point of view and evaluate both of them. Then finally this paper will consider what the meaning and function of the chorus (Ji-utai). Noh is basically composed of three main parts, the shite, the waki and the ji-utai. Noh plays are centered on the action and emotion of one character performed by the shite, or principle actor. The second main character is the waki, serves primarily as a foil for the exposition of the shite’s character. The ji-utai is the chorus of performers that sings the verses to certain Noh sequences,...

...Dear Percival (also known as Tiny Brain), The only reason I’m writing this letter is because King Arthur is forcing me. You know how he forces all the knights to write THE FINAL LETTER in case we fall in battle? It’s a pile of shite, I say. But since I am forced into doing this and I have no real family left, I am writing my FINAL LETTER to you. You as my brother? Don’t know how I feel about that… Moving along with this crap—as Arthur stands over my shoulder and complains about my word choices—I thought I should let you know while I find writing letters boring, I’ll say a few nice things about you anyway (because I must). Fine… you’re my best friend. Happy? And to be honest, I’d be surprised if you ever read this letter, because if I...

...Louise Simone Bennett-Coverley or Miss Lou, (7 September 1919 – 26 July 2006), was a Jamaican poet, folklorist, writer, and educator. Writing and performing her poems in Jamaican Patois or Creole, she was instrumental in having this "dialect" of the people given literary recognition in its own right Louise Bennett was born in [White Town, Jamaica], and attended Shite Prep and Calabar Elementary Schools, St. Simon’s College, Excelsior College, St. George's College Sixth Form Program and Friends College (Highgate, St Mary). On a British Council scholarship she attended the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, where she studied in the late 1940s. After graduating, she worked with repertory companies in Coventry, Huddersfield and Amersham, as well as in intimate revues all over England. Miss Lou was a good resident artiste and a teacher from 1945 to 1946 with the "Caribbean Carnival". She appeared in leading humorous roles in several Jamaican pantomimes and television shows. She travelled throughout the world promoting the culture of Jamaica through lectures and performances. Although her popularity was international, she enjoyed celebrity status in her native Jamaica, Canada and the United Kingdom. Her poetry has been published several times, most notably the volumes Jamaica Labrish (1966), Anancy and Miss Lou (1979). Her most influential recording is probably her 1954 rendition of the Jamaican traditional song "Day Dah Light", which was recorded by Harry Belafonte as "Day-O"...

...absorbed by the absurdity she was watching” offers insight into the severity of Goldfarb’s addiction. Her metaphor comparing television to garbage and her reference to viewers as “cretins,” meaning a stupid person, demonstrates her disgust with the informercial’s ability to manipulate. She is conscious of its lunacy, but unconscious of the powerful effect it has on her. In contrast, Trainspotting, offers an honest, straightforward commentary about how the character’s perceive their experiences of addiction. Goldfarb notices the absurdity of her addiction, but is in denial. In a quote by Mark Renton, he discusses the truth about why he and his friends use drugs: “People think it’s all about misery and desperation and death and all that shite, which is not to be ignored, but what they forget is the pleasure of it. Otherwise we wouldn’t do it. After all, we’re not fucking stupid. At least, we’re not that fucking stupid.” Renton gives a very unexpected reason for why people do drugs: the pleasure. By definition, denial is a refusal to admit the truth or reality and in psychology refers to a type of defense mechanism where people subconsciously reject aspects of life that they are uncomfortable with. Denial is used in order to protect an addict’s ego; however, Renton is being both vulnerable and honest as he states that addiction is a balance of the good and the bad. He discusses the common misconceptions about why people succumb to drug use: “misery and desperation and death...

She took a small sip and she figured out who was watching her it was an officer. The officer kept looking all around, he was tense from how he was walking he motioned the bartender over and the bartender frowned and talked to him. Aria being suspicious listened in to the conversation. "Do you have the barrels of rum ready for the convoy, this is going to be a long trip...and I don't want the crew getting mad." The officer growled. "I do...and I had better receive my pay..." The bartender frowned and growled back. "You will you little piece of shite." The officer growled and huffed. "The barrels are in the back...go and get the crew to come and get them..." The bartender snarled frustrated at the officer, which he turned and left and went back to cleaning and serving drinks. Aria watched as the officer restrain himself from going over to do something to the bartender. He left and it was now Aria's turn. "Aye lad, what was that small scuffle about..?" Aria asked and the bartender looked to her. "None of your own damned business lass..." he growled, Aria frowned and pulled out her pouch money. She poured a good handful into her palm, and she slapped it down onto the table and pushed it to the bartender. Aria removed her hand and the bartender grinned. "Ah you got me friend." The...

...Royale Family essay I found numerous frameworks in the extract from The Royale Family, however the first one that I noticed is lexis and within lexis, the first feature i found is taboo with the lexime "arse", this word along with "shite" and "bloody" helps me to understand the genre of the exract which in my opinion is an adult comedy because the sentences in which the words are used are written in an informal manner for example, "crab's arse my arse" , this style of language would not be appropriate for a children's TV programme or a documentary so it gives me the impression that this particular show is aimed towards people between the ages of 25 and 60. These words can also be linked to ideolect because the character that uses these words the most is Jim so i would say that it is a language style associated with that particular character which enables the audience to connect with that character and understand him. A second main feature i found used is slang with the words "mates" and "P.". Slang is a very informal language mainly exchanged between people who know each other which is why I think it is a very effective feature to use because the script is written for an acting family so the producers/authors may have used slang to engage and attract the audience and also to to allow them to connect and it takes and formal views away to create more of a humorous scene. Both of these words can link to abbreviation as well with "P." being an abbreviation of pence and "mates"...

...also faced years of persecution from Christians due to the belief that Jews were the cause of the crucifixion of Christ and their different ideology. In fact, Christianity was based off of the rejection of Judaism, making the two religions have many differences. An example of Christianity’s conflicts is the holocaust. Jews faced a mass genocide during World War II by nazi Germany. This was a very significant because one-third of the Jewish population was wiped out from this genocide. Another major conflict with the three religions is with territory. They all see Israel as their holy land, since it holds some sort of significance to all of the religions. Iraq is a Muslim dominant country with 99% of the population being either sunni (35%) or shite(65%) followers. Iraq is the home of important religious places like Baghdad and Karbala and there have been wars over these places. The different beliefs between the two sects of Muslim has caused qutie a bit of conflict within the country, especially government-wise. A lack of trust and agreement between the two sects forced wars and fighting. Speaking of the government issues, the Iraq war with the U.S influenced many youth and general muslim followers to join jihadist groups, like the Al Qaeda. This is still a problem today, but with a different group called ISIS. Overall, religion in Iraq made a huge effect on government and the growth of jihadist groups. ...

...“Hate and intolerance are the catalysts for the destruction of a family, of a culture, and a nation”, by Werner Gellert, chair of The New Mexico Holocaust and Intolerance Museum and Study Center. (history:www.nmholocaustmuseum.com) It is vital to remember and pass to a new generation the history and lessons of the Holocaust since over 5.7 million Jewish people had their lives taken away by a man who was intolerant of their religion. The largest numbers of victims of the Holocaust were Polish citizens. Adolf Hitler tried to destroy a nation by destroying families who were targeted because of their religion and culture. George Santayana said, “Those who do not remember the past are condemned to repeat it.” (history: quoteland.com) This quote explains why the lessons and history of the Holocaust need to be passed on to student’s today and future generations of students. Students need to clearly understand why Hitler wanted to rid Europe of the Jewish people, what was done to them in the concentration camps, how the families were split apart, and how he tried to destroy the Jewish religion and culture. The Holocaust plays an important role in world history. The word genocide was developed after events in Europe, between 1933 and 1945, called for a legal concept to be used to describe the “deliberate destruction of a larger group.” Genocide became a crime punishable under international law. (Genocide:britannica.com) The United Nations had difficulty defining the term “war...

...story writ-ten with a very unique spoken language and with an unusual composition, which I will de-scribe even further later in this essay. Additionally, I will make a characterization of the per-sons, get around the use of supernatural elements and in the end explain how I have inter-preted the short story. The story is written in a 1st person narrator, who is Annie – the main character. The spoken language is unique because the story takes place in contemporary Northern Ireland, and the writer has chosen to show the Irish dialect in the spoken language. The language, especially when the father speaks, contains a lot of slang and unusual ways to pronounce the words. An example of this, appears in this quotation: ““What’s that oul’ shite you’re listening to?” he said, and near put me off the road. A twitter of a laugh: “That would deave you,” and his arm reached out, and turned down the dial.” (Page 5, line 133-135). The fact that the short story is written from the narrative’s perspective, gives the reader an opportunity to feel like he is inside An-nie’s head. Her narrative language is not very formal; as an example she calls her father “Dad-dy”. The story begins in medias res, because the reader is thrown directly into the action when Annie sees her dead father for the first time in the shower. The reader knows therefore right away that this short story especially is about someone’s relationship to his or her dead father. The main character’s name is not revealed before...
