...neatness yet; this is still the brainstorming stage. Choose a few good ideas. Make sure you can back them up. Even though you might have a brilliant idea, if you can't back it up, it's useless. Group your ideas into different categories. For a simple example: If your subject is "Names of Animals", and you write Cat, Lizard, Dog, Alligator, Raccoon, then you could group the mammals in one group and the reptiles in the other, or you could put domesticated animals in one group and wild ones in the other. These will be your paragraphs. Turn your ideas into a sentence. To do this, try to pick out a few major words or themes from your ideas and use them while drafting your paper. Let your essay sit for a while, then read it again. You will need to have fresh eyes when reviewing your essay. If you are short on time, have someone else read it. Edit as needed. Follow your guidelines to a T and write every fact and follow your opinion. It will bring you closer to an...

...Essay about the short story: Pool by Corey Campbell The short story “Pool” is about the couple Darla and Jon. The overarching theme in the story is: unhappiness in relationships, and failing marriages which both are very relevant to the society in which we live in. The author (Cory Campbell) is trying to shed some light on how it is being in an unhappy relationship. The main character Darla is a young woman, and even though we aren’t told her age, based on the quotes: “Darla herself, just older than the couple” and “now they were in year four”, I would conclude that the other couple are in their mid-twenties which I take to mean that she is in her late twenties. Darla doesn’t want kids, which is one of the minor themes in the short story. She isn’t very confident in her looks which we can conclude from this snippet of the text: “she hated others seeing her in her swimsuit”. Darla is in an unhappy relationship with Jon, which after their condom split is tenser than before. They have been a couple for just under a year, and Darla has recently realized that she isn’t happy in their relationship which we can see in this quote from the text: “what she liked best about him, Darla realized earlier in the car, was that it wasn’t going to last”. He is also pressuring her to do things she doesn’t want to do throughout the entire short story, for example when he is trying to get her to drink alcohol even though she isn’t allowed to drink, because of the morning-after pill that she...

...An Essay on the Short Story P rospect House This English short story, which was published in Harlot Red in 2002 , has been adapted from a short story by Frances Childs . The story deals with the themes of friendship and love. Love is very fundamental, if you want to be happy. Right from our birth our parents love us, which is a love that lasts no matter what happens. Also it is necessary to have a girl- or boyfriends who shows affection and care for you and besides that the love from friends is very important in order to have a good life. The main character called experiences love through her friends, but she doesn’t have a boyfriend or parents, who take care of her. Frances Childs makes use of a first-person narrator and thus the story is told from Kimpoint of view. As readers we soon become aware of Kim’s r background and we learn that she has an unhealthy relationship with love. She doesn’t even remember the name of the boy, with whom she has slept and who transmitted her with Hep B and a venereal disease. This also shows us that she doesn’t take care of herself. The other girls in the Prospect House don’t take care of themselves either. They give birth just because they want somebody to love them and Di gets pregnant just to get out of Prospect house and not because she really wants a child. Probably Kim has gn up without caring parents and this has made her life hard. “ I know that I am that girl, motherless, seething with desire, pushed into a world that...

...model, short term memory has a limited capacity to hold information (Atkinson & Shriffin, 1968). The span of short term memory is said to be limited to about seven items (+2) (Miller, 1956 as cited in Terry, 2000). Short-term memory is also an active memory where we do our active memory processing (Lefrancois, 2000). For this reason, several researches have called the short term memory the working memory store (Gordon, 1989). Working memory is important for learning. However, it is extremely limited in both capacity and duration (Atkinson & Shriffin, 1968). When engaging in a learning task, the learner must make use of working memory capacity, and hence a load is placed upon that memory (Sweller, 2010). When the cognitive load exceeds the limit of working memory capacity, learning will be affected. Effective instructional methods that can support limited short term storage and limited working memory processes are being used in classroom to maximise the learning (Dehn, 2008). Thus, this essay will probe on the extent of teachers considering the limited processing capacity of students’ working memory in Malaysian English language classroom using multiple modality teaching aids, part whole approach and collaborative learning. Multiple...

...Short Essay Craig L. Weng The University of Redlands BUSB300 Ethical and Legal Environment of Business [ March 20, 2013 ] Prof. Jeffery D. Smith Ethics in business is in fact about following the law. If a business from the top down believes that ethics is a matter of following the law then, that's what needs to be stated in its Standards of Conduct, Bylaws, Governing documents etc..., so that everyone involved or that wants to be involved has a clear and concise understanding as to how the business intends to conduct its day to day activities from the board members to the janitorial staff. With that, there comes a certain feeling of commitment. A commitment not only to keeping your companies' profit margin up, but a commitment to the employees who got your company to that bottom line and beyond, to the community that allowed your company to root itself with the hopes of hiring it's residents and boosting their economy as well as the shareholders and senior managements bottom line. I believe that ethics in business is more than just following the law. It's about caring how you conduct your business and caring more about the business a whole vice just the financial aspect. Ethics: the moral values and principles used to make evaluative judgments about individual conduct and the social arrangements of a community, usually reinforced through cultural norms and social institutions (e.g., family, religion, civil associations, schools, political parties). ...THEO 201-C05 Priscilla Ohene Liberty University October 23th, 2014 Short Essay The most controversial and discussed subject in the Holy Bible would be the subject of spiritual gifts. Spiritual gifts are “gifts of God enabling the Christians to perform his or her…services in church” (Elwell, 2001, pg.1135). Spiritual gifts are given by God to help complete His work here on earth and also glorify His name. When we are chosen to by God to receive these spiritual gifts, He expects us to use those gifts in fulfilling His commission, building up the churches, and giving back to Him. That “gifts are given for the common good, that the church may receive edification” (1 Corinthians 14:5, New King James Version) Town defines a spiritual gift as the evident and manifest work of the Holy Spirit through the Christian (2001, pg. 313). He explains that, “spiritual gifts are not given merely for personal enjoyment or even primarily for an individual’s own spiritual growth” (2001, pg. 311). In the book of 1 Corinthians 12: 8 – 11 (New King James Version), it easily explains that there are nine spiritual gifts; the message of wisdom, faith by the Holy Spirit, healing by the Holy Spirit, miraculous powers, distinguishing spirits, prophecy, message of knowledge by means of the Holy Spirit, speaking in tongues and the explanation of tongues. These all are works of the Holy Spirit and God gave them to each just as He determines as Paul stated. These are special gifts given by God without...

... culture, history, etc. And why? I don’t think there is a right or wrong answer to this question because everyone has different composed views about it. We label areas of the United States commonly as the north, the south, and the Midwest. Yet, there is more connotative labeling that divide up the nation according to each state’s geographical features. These other regional terms are New England, Middle Atlantic, Pacific Northwest, plains, the Deep South and so forth. I am in that category. My criteria for surveying states are geography as well as linguistics and culture. I am from New Jersey, which is considered to be a Middle Atlantic state. In my area, we generalize New Jersey and the bordering states around us as the “metro area” (short for metropolitan) or “tri-state area,” depending on where you live. By definition, these terms generally mean that a triangular area from southwestern CT, down through New York, and into parts of northern/eastern New Jersey, as well as Pennsylvania are in typical commuting distance of Manhattan. Each region of state will have varying accents, especially in the middle Atlantic or tri-sate area. In New Jersey, when it comes to pronunciation, you can tell if that person is from North or South Jersey just by how they say a word. This can have an obvious linguistic divide and applies the same for the rest of America between the North and South regions. Regional accents and schisms are apart of America and it is what makes American English so interesting...

...Introduction Coca-Cola is the largest soda provider in the world. Although it is widely consumed, many people are unaware of its labor violations. The company has come under fire for the way in which its workers are treated in Guatemala. The primary source of all the violence is the workers’ union. On February 25, 2010, Coke was sued by those Guatemalan laborers, who claim that they, “endured a campaign of violence” (bboyd, 2010) from the people who worked for the bottling or processing plants owned by Coke (bboyd, 2010). Issues Analysis This violence took place in Guatemala City. The perpetrators were employed by Incasa, which operated the bottling plant. One of the plaintiffs is Jose Palacios, who faced violence after rejoining the workers’ union in 2004. Not only was he shot at and threatened at the bottling plant, but armed men broke into his home and threatened his family (McWilliams, 2010). A few weeks after this invasion, in 2005, he was fired without a cause (Skeen, 2010). Another plaintiff in the case is Jose Chavez, a prominent union leader. In 2008, after he participated in collective-bargaining activities in Guatemala City, returned home to his waiting family. Upon his arrival, Chavez’s son and nephew were brutally murdered in front of his eyes and his 16 year old daughter was gang-raped (Skeen, 2010). This violence was a response to his activity in the union. Summary and Conclusions Although this has not been widely publicized, the labor violations of...

...Being Macbeth ENG 125 Instructor: Sahag Gureghian 03/11/2014 Being MacBeth Talk about a difficult read! Macbeth is definitely a difficult read, but it is also a very good read. There is something about the way it is written that has you raising your eyebrow and widening your eyes, as well as, questioning what was just read. Shakespeare used many elements when writing Macbeth. He was able to express each and every idea vividly using the elements. The three elements that I chose to discuss in this essay are foreshadowing, symbolism, and language. The first element that I would like to discuss is foreshadowing. A lot of foreshadowing took place in Macbeth. Clugston defines foreshadowing as “a technique a writer uses to hint or suggest what the outcome of an important conflict or situation in a narrative will be” (2010). Sometimes when foreshadowing is used in Macbeth it is very unclear of what the outcome will be. When you read a certain part and think one thing, Shakespeare uses foreshadowing and the reader is left asking questions and wondering what will happen, and why. In Act 1 Scene 1, the three witches are talking about Macbeth. They are discussing Macbeth’s future during thunder and lightning. I believe that not only does the witches conversation lead the reader to believe that something will happen, but the thunder and lightning also play an important role in what is to come for Macbeth. In scene 3, the witches appear again. This time they are not alone....

...Shh Trend Analysis As with all luxury goods, the sales of fruit juice have been adversely affected by the current economic climate. 56% of Irish households are forced to go into debt to pay their essential household bills. While 57% of Irish households have had to dip into savings/ accept money from family and friends to make ends meet. (The Planning Agency, 2013) (http://www.mccp.ie/trendstream-blog/the-5-so-whats-which-impacted-consumers-and-brands-this-week-3) According to Euromonitor, “2011 marks a fourth consecutive year of off-trade volume and value sales decline”. This decline was largely due to the Irish recession and the trading down trend. However, despite initial drops in growth amounting to a loss of 4% in growth in 2010, the declinations appear to be getting smaller (a loss of only 1% in 2011) and the juice industry is on the mend. With an increased demand for healthy and convenient foods, smoothies have become a more popular option over the past decade. According to research by AC Nielsen, in 2006 the Irish smoothie market was worth an estimated €4 million and between 2002 and 2006, the market grew by 214%. (AC Nielson in Amarach Consulting 2007 http://www.amarach.com/assets/docs/Food%20Futures%20Report%202007.pdf) Pre-packed smoothies enjoy a more evenly distributed spread of locations with the most common being supermarkets (41%) followed by newsagents (19%), Cafés (16%) and Deli’s (11%). Consumers claim their main reason for purchasing smoothies is...

...Marissa Mayer was right on asking Yahoo employees who currently telecommute to start to come in to the office regularly. I support her decision because people should understand that it is called a job for a reason and it has to be taken serious and without distractions. Before technology was this advanced, people did not have the option to work from home and now people are becoming lazier and lazier and want to do everything from their home. It is right to have employees at the office to be able to supervise them every now and then and make sure they are giving it their all. She’s doing it to benefit the company. I do think that the CEO’s gender had to do with how the message was received. When people see a woman they think feelings, drama, gossip. They feel all women care to talk about is about theirs and other people’s personal lives and feelings. Although some women do, there’s others that are professional about their jobs and do not let their feelings and personal lives become a topic in their conversations at work. People need to listen and analyze her reasons for doing what she did and when they understand them then they can finally share their opinions about it. They should not react the way they do only because she is a woman. Maybe she feels that if people come to the office regularly then they will work more effectively rather than working at home surrounded with a lot of...

...Choose four (4) of the six (6) following questions to develop your answers as an essay. Each essay you choose should have 250 words minimum. 1. Discuss how marketers of low-involvement products such as soft drinks or paper towels would use various IMC tools differently than a marketer of a high-involvement product such as a personal computer or automobile. Marketers of low-involvement products as soft drinks and paper towels don't have to put a high amount of emphasis on what is the advertising and placement of the products on the contrary high-involvement products do have to be very well advertised with a desired target market, this is because they are basic needs and companies do not desire to give that much of focus on advertising and promotions, they do focus on doing publicity in order to catch more of the attention as possible from consumers and maybe make consumers react to this publicities and be able to interact directly with the customer, which is called Direct Marketing. Also low-involvement products marketers have to focus on personal selling, for example in departments stores sellers from companies are sent in order to make one-to-one interaction with customers, where the product can be shown, explained, used, makes tests, even explanations that why you should choose this product before others. This makes the consumer to feel related to the product, with the possibility of personal interaction they will feel attracted. In high-involvement products you do...

...Short Essay on Hurricanes Terry Sims Physical Science 210-B12 LUO Professor Megan Taylor February 24, 2014 Short Essay on Hurricanes Introduction: A devastating event that forms over water where the heat from the water fuels the intensity of the storm is called a hurricane, a tropical storm, a cyclone, or low pressure storm. These storms form over the oceans of the world and are fed off the heat that rises from the warmer waters of the world. They all have a very distinct shape, and it appears like a cloudy white donut. The tighter the circle, the more clearly the eye is defined and easily shows the power and intensity of the storm. General Overview: A hurricane is a storm system that is defined as, “a tropical storm with winds that have reached a constant speed of 74 miles per hour or more.” (Louisiana Homeland Security) These storms are dangerous in several ways. Hurricanes have torrential rains, dangerous winds, raging storm surges, and many tornadoes directly associated with the power of the hurricanes. A hurricane is also directed by the steering currents from the jet stream. They can last for weeks to a month depending on the speed and how fast they make landfall. The mountainous terrain is a hurricane killer and will prevent a storm from strengthening. A hurricane starts as a tropical storm or tropical depression. These systems are almost exclusively in tropical parts of the world, and the formation predominantly travels over oceans and...

...Ning Chansavath Wk 3 short essay March 18, 2015 The Truman Doctrine Foreign Policy was established by President Harry Truman on March of 1947. In the Doctrine it is stated that the United States would support Greece and Turkey with economic and military aid to prevent those countries from falling under the influence of the Soviet Union. The idea was to prevent Soviet Union’s influence as much as possible. Essentially, this was Truman ways of retaliating towards Josef Stalin and The Soviet Union aggression in Eastern Europe. In the Doctrine, Truman noted that “it will be the policy of the United States to support free peoples who are resisting attempted subjugation by armed minorities and outside pressures.” The main audience was wide: this was a clear and strong message to the Soviet Union; a message to Europe, that the U.S. would not tolerate Soviet’s aggression; also a message to the people of Greece and Turkey that the U.S. would side with them; and lastly a message to Congress and the American people that the U.S. would put in a formal policy to prevent the spread of worldwide communism. The U.S will do anything it can to let too many people fall under the rules of communism. Basically it was the message – to the Soviets to “back off” The Doctrine shaped American Foreign Policy for the next several decades and would result in the Korean War, Vietnam, policies in Asia, Africa and in particular, the stand-off over Cuba in the early 1960s. We did see it coming...
