...History of Logarithms Logarithms were invented independently by John Napier, a Scotsman, and by Joost Burgi, a Swiss. Napier's logarithms were published in 1614; Burgi's logarithms were published in 1620. The objective of both men was to simplify mathematical calculations. This approach originally arose out of a desire to simplify multiplication and division to the level of addition and subtraction. Of course, in this era of the cheap hand calculator, this is not necessary anymore but it still serves as a useful way to introduce logarithms. Napier's approach was algebraic and Burgi's approach was geometric. The invention of the common system of logarithms is due to the combined effort of Napier and Henry Biggs in 1624. Natural logarithms first arose as more or less accidental variations of Napier's original logarithms. Their real significance was not recognized until later. The earliest natural logarithms occur in 1618. It can’t be said too often: a logarithm is nothing more than an exponent. The basic concept of logarithms can be expressed as a shortcut…….. Multiplication is a shortcut for Addition: 3 x 5 means 5 + 5 + 5 Exponents are a shortcut for Multiplication: 4^3 means 4 x 4 x 4 Logarithms are a shortcut for Exponents: 10^2 = 100. The present definition of the logarithm is the exponent or power to which a stated number, called the base, is raised to yield a specific number. The logarithm of 100 to the base 10 is 2. This is written: log10 (100) = 2. Before pocket calculators...

...Performing For Class There are numerous amounts of measures taken to assess the impact of treatment for ADHD in children’s classroom behavior in correlation to academic performance. Some think medication is the way to go while others believe behavioral therapy and counseling should be taken into consideration. According to the Mayo Clinic, 2015, “Standard treatments for ADHD in children include medications, education, training and counseling. These treatments can relieve many of the symptoms of ADHD, but they don't cure it. It may take some time to determine what works best for your child.” It is not necessarily the way in which ADHD is diagnosed that leaves one stumped but to what degree the symptoms can be helped in a child’s progression throughout an academic career. It has been well established that children with ADHD do face difficulties in daily life functioning including academic underperformance (Kuriyan et al., 2013). Inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity are all common symptoms of ADHD that have an effect on underperformance; it is also these symptoms that have caused a negative effect on a child’s performance in school. The inability to pay attention manifests in the academic area of a child’s schooling. Students usually are identified with ADHD only after consistently demonstrating a failure to understand or follow rules or to complete required tasks. “The majority of research on the relationship between ADHD and academia performance is concentrated...

...in business school, we often get very confused about all these different concepts which look scary and complicated. More often than not, these scary concepts are found in the fields of Accounting, Financial Management, and Quantitative Analysis. Here you will learn to lose that fear, and realize that the “scaryness” was only in the way it was presented to you in the past; and that there’s really nothing to be afraid of! ...Spreadsheet Sensitivity Analysis Introduction Spreadsheets and the Case Projects The Dynamic Strategic Planning workbook is accompanied by a number of spreadsheet-based tools for data analysis. We have supplied these tools so that the users of this workbook can concentrate upon the use and implementation of decision analysis and strategic planning, rather than focusing upon the mechanics of the mathematics underlying their use. The current form of the spreadsheets is a consequence of a combination of factors: academic research, pedagogical design, and in-class experiences. Based upon new developments, they are being routinely improved. However, no amount of care in tool design can substitute for expertise on the part of the user. The case projects have been designed assuming that these tools will be used effectively. The purpose of this document is to assure that you, the user of these tools, are prepared to exploit them to their fullest - specifically, that you are able to make use of spreadsheet sensitivity analysis tools. Spreadsheet Basics Electronic spreadsheets (as opposed to the paper kind!) have revolutionized business analysis. This should be no surprise, given that one of the developers of the original tool, Visicalc, was a Harvard Business School dropout who recognized that a computer-based tool to facilitate business analysis would have made his life a little simpler at the HBS, and might even help managers when they got out into the real world. However...

...into an electronic calculator and master the mathematical strategies to triumph in every challenge! "The 101 bibles" series More Ebooks ..Ahashare.com I - The Speed Math Bible I'm quite sure we could all agree about a fact: the traditional way to teach mathematics has a lot of structural problems, and in most of cases it doesn't really help students to get confident with the subject. In fact, too many students finish their schooling still having a real "mathematical illiteracy", united with a burning hatred of everything concerning numbers and operations. In particular, talking about classic method of teaching mathematics, I'm strongly of the opinion that: It's really poor incentive for individual creativity: in fact, too many times school will teach you that the proper method for performing a set of calculations i s "rigidly" one, and that everything should always be made in the same way. This obviously can't do much more than boring every student and generating the feeling that the matter itself, rather than improving one's mental skills, actually shrinks them, gradually transforming him/her into something that's more similar to an industrial machine. This book, however, is designed to go far beyond this restricted vision and will teach you that the classic approach is not the only possible approach and that every set of mathematical calculations can be transformed into a deeply creative challenge. The idea of mathematical "trick" is unjustly "demonised": very few people...
