Title
Basketball Shot Tracker Research Proposal
Abstract
We intend to make a device that tracks a player’s basketball shot. It will detect where the the shot was taken, whether the shot was made or missed, and display the information to a website.
We will do this by using a wrist sensor that will track when a shot is taken and a sensor on the hoop that will detect when a shot is made. The data will be sent to a program that will process and display the information on a website. This program is intended to help basketball players improve their shooting.
Problem/Purpose/Engineering Goals
We are trying to create a technology. The purpose for doing this is that when people are practicing basketball, unless they want to create a new diagram every single time on paper and track where they shot from and whether or not they made the shot, they don’t receive feedback on their shooting percentage or anything like that. There is a mental part to playing basketball, and if someone knows that he is consistently improving his shot every day, then he will be more confident while playing and an overall better player. Our project hopes to make the shot tracking process easier and less time consuming.
Background
There’s always room to improve in basketball so our objective is to create a tool that will help optimize the rate of development of one’s shooting skill. While this technology already currently exists, we are trying to improve upon it to build a more efficient implementation while making sure that it does not provide obstructions to progress. We will do this by making sure our device isn’t bulky and doesn’t distract the shooter, and we will also provide more detailed shot analytics. Basketball is an internationally known sport with a very large following in the
National Basketball Association and along with that a very large amount of money behind it.
Even the smaller, local leagues have a lot of traction within their communities. This having been said, the basketball shot tracker that we are trying to create could greatly benefit small communities and if our design and implementation is of high enough quality, it could end up being the next big thing. Our device will also be a type of learning process that we haven’t gone through during our stay at TJ. We have learned computer science, we have learned very basic robotics, but we haven’t learned how to merge computer science and robotics into one, and this will be a very crucial project in terms of increasing our knowledge and skillset.
Research Techniques / Methods
There will be two components to our project: a wrist sensor, and a net sensor. The wrist sensor will send the data to the net sensor when the ball leaves the hand, and the net sensor will receive the signal, and if the ball goes through the hoop then data will be sent to the website, recording where the ball was shot from and whether or not the shooter made the shot. The user can then see data from previous days and see his performance, which will be divided up into categories.

Materials
 9 Degrees of Freedom - Razor IMU with Bluetooth capabilities for the wrist component
 RF Digital RFD22301 Bluetooth 4.0 BLE and ARM Cortex M0 Module or a similar type of microprocessor with Bluetooth capabilities to act as a motion sensor

The Stone Tower

...October 6, 2012 CRW150 - Introduction to Creative Writing - Class # 27071 Doris Patton Midterm Part 1: Creative Story The Stone Tower 1 “Can you get a clear shot Draz?” asked Tankus. “If he takes a step forward I can,” answered Draz. Daylight was disappearing in the forest as dusk began to set, but there was still enough light for the two friends to observe the movements of the tracker who had been silently tailing them for a good part of the day. “What kind of tracker is he?” said Tankus. “He looks like some kind of rat or something.” The tracker was hunched over now, trying to pick up their scent which he had lost several yards back in the brush. Skin like beaten old leather stretched over his long thin bones giving him a scare-crow like appearance, but it was the long, pointed nose set between black, beady eyes that made him look like a rat. He edged forward suddenly picking up their scent again. "Fwoooosh!" Draz’s laser arrow found its mark in the tracker’s temple. “Okay that’s cool,” said Tankus, “we know he’s been with us for several miles, so where do you suppose the rest of his entourage is? Where are the meat and the brains that sent out this dog?” “I don’t know,” said Draz, “I just hope we have enough fire power to keep them back. I don’t know how much more time Kalem needs to break into that old place.” Tankus raked his blonde goatee with his long nimble fingers, trying to add things up in his mind quickly. He was the planner of the group and...

Usenet vs Torrents

...Download speed The first thing we’re going to take a look at when comparing Usenet vs Torrent, is the the download speed. With torrent (P2P) downloading, you need to rely on other persons to seed so you can download faster. Therefore your downloading speed will be restricted by the amount of seeders. If there are few seeders you’re going to download slower. With Usenet, your downloading speed isn’t restricted by the amount of seeders and lechers. There’s no restriction. The downloading speed in only limited by your broadband. So if you have a fast internet, you’re going to download movies and shows quick. Usenet speeds are as fast as the end users internet connection. File availability Usenet vs Torerent, which one have the best file availability? The first movies and songs appeared on Usenet even before the birth of Napster & BitTorrent. Even today, the majority of content from top site uploaders gets on Usenet first, and then spread to the P2P communities. This is the way online distribution works, and there is no indication that this will change any time soon. Content uploaded to Usenet have a close to definite lifespan. Therefore Usenet have a clear advantage over torrents in terms of file availability. Content on Usenet have a retention time of around 900 days and it’s still increasing. Files uploaded to BitTorrent relies on seeders, over time content on BitTorrent will die. Seed ratio How can we really compare Usenet vs Torrents, when Usenet don’t...

Construction of a Sun Tracker

...CHAPTER ONE 1.0 INTRODUCTION Current trends in electric energy generation are moving towards the utilization of the environment friendly sources of energy, represented by the wind and solar energy ones as a supplementary energy resource. The solar based one is the more attractive because it is characterized by being free, incur no fuel cost, abundant, limits less, distributed all over the world, pollution free, and require little maintenance. Maximizing power output from a solar system is desirable to increase efficiency and in order to maximize power output from the solar panels, one need to keep the panels aligned with the sun. As such, a means of tracking the sun is required. Efficient collection of maximum solar irradiance (MSI) on a flat plate type photovoltaic solar panels or a cylindrical parabolic solar reflector requires adjustments of two parameters of the energy collecting surface namely the angle of Azimuth, and the angle of tilt, of the surface to be illuminated. As the elevation angle of the sun remains almost invariant in a month and varies little (latitude + 100) in a year, there is no need for automatic adjustment of the tilt angle. Everyday, the sun rises in the east, moves across the sky and sets in the west. If one could get a solar panel to turn and look at the sun all day hours, then it could receive the maximum amount of sunlight possible and convert it into the more useful energy (electricity). The current of the solar module is very sensitive...

Maximum Power Point Tracking

...energy resources are not only limited but also the prime culprit for environmental pollution. Renewable energy resources are getting priorities in the whole world to lessen the dependency on conventional resources. Solar energy is rapidly gaining the focus as an important means of expanding renewable energy uses. Solar cells those convert sun's energy into electrical energy are costly and inefficient. Different mechanisms are applied to increase the efficiency of the solar cell to reduce the cost. Solar tracking system is the most appropriate technology to enhance the efficiency of the solar cells by tracking the sun. A microcontroller based design methodology of an automatic solar tracker is presented in this paper. Light dependent resistors are used as the sensors of the solar tracker. The designed tracker has precise control mechanism which will provide three ways of controlling system. A small prototype of solar tracking system is also constructed to implement the design methodology presented here. Index Terms:- MPPT I. INTRODUCTION Now a day’s electricity generation using solar mobile has been growing fast day today. In order to obtain solar energy as much as possible, the study of the efficiency for PV systems has attracted many researchers and engineers attention. Yr11 Catcher in the Rye Speech

...Hello and good morning/evening, what do you believe makes a relationship, is it love, friendship or is it established when you are born between your parents and siblings? How could this everyday phenomenon, which drives our will to live and excel, be so simple? “The Catcher in the Rye” by J.D. Salinger and “The Dark Knight” directed by Christopher Noland are my chosen examples to explore themes such as hatred, mortality and deceit, which consist of various factors affecting relationships like self-isolation, our psychological health and propaganda. “The Cather in the Rye” explores these themes in a Dark, cynical but somewhat compassionate tone, accompanied with moments of humor. “The Dark Knight” is similar and explores the themes in a dark and disturbing tone, with the addition of action. “The Catcher in the Rye” demonstrates the theme of hatred with Holden’s hate towards the adult world around him, however as a consequence this causes personal, social and mental isolation from the world and an inability to create meaningful relationships. This is the main factor for Holden’s isolation from the world, and is symbolized throughout the novel with Holden’s red hunting hat. The majority of the people he encounters are deemed as ‘phonies’ for Holden as they do not follow with his view of the world, this generalization further prevent him from making relationships and reflects upon his immaturity. The last page of the novel and more importantly the quote, “All I know is I sort...

Micro Essay- Film

...is set in a woodland forest surrounded by snow and tree trunks. It shows a wide shot of the forest with a dear in the far background. Non-diagetic sound appears when the dear starts to come closer towards the camera. The non-diagetic sound is of a man repeating a prayer. This builds suspension and makes the audience question why he is narrating a prayer. The camera then walks back, and soon focuses on a rifle gun, which is pointing towards the dear, as the non-diagetic sound of the prayer is still being said. This suggests to the audience that the dear is either going to get shot for pleasure, or for food. As soon as the non-diagetic sound of the prayer ends with an “Amen”, the camera comes behind the 2 men, which shows an over shoulder shot, and the gun then gets fired. Diagetic sound of the gunshot is loud and clear. The over shoulder shot, allows us to know who is firing at the dear, and shows us from behind there point of view. Diagetic sound of the dear dying, suggests its been killed in a miserable way. As soon as the rifle has been fired, non-diagetic music appears with a slow beat thud noise. This shows that it’s the ending of the scene. As the slow beat music is playing, the man with a rough looking beard faces towards the young teen that shot the dear, in a proud manner, and taps him on the back. A tapping on the back shows proudness, and a good job. The scene changes to a wide shot of a truck driving along the highway. Non-diagetic sound of the radio is playing...

The Big Combo Essay

...costume, lighting, framing, photographic aspects, characters, editing, and cuts of the shot. Together these specific fundamental elements partake in the films that we watch providing dimension, mood, and style. The Big Combo is the epitome of film noir. Film noir’s visual style conceives a mood in a film with instability, double identities, and somewhat shifting values by using it’s techniques of darkness in shadows and night time scenes. In The Big Combo the main characters seem to have double identities “shadowed” upon them throughout the movie through silhouettes, shadows, and reflections, and not only do they have these double identities through mise-en-scene but also in the narrative. In the opening hospital sequence in The Big Combo, just as detective Diamond comes up the stairs and through the door we have a horizontal angle very slightly looking up (a low angle) into the hallway. As detective Diamond steps into the door past the officer the camera angle stays the same, both Mr. Diamond and the standing officer are in medium long shot. With the medium long shot we are able to make out the two nurses and reception desk in the back. In the hallway of the hospital the high-key lighting makes the contrast between the dark and lighter areas somewhat minimal but still noticeable. The two nurses in the back are standing in what seems to appear as a strong backlighting; in the medium long shot the nurses have attached shadows among them stretching down the floor of the hallway...

How Does the Director of Great Expectations Use Filmic Techniques to Create an Atmosphere of Tension in the Scene Where Pip's Benefactor Is Revealed?

...is no unrealistic mood music creating it. It strengthens identity with Pip as he can hear everything the audience can and also creates a contrast to other scenes. The wind throughout this scene almost serves as mood music as it gets louder and quieter to create tension, it is also used later on in the scene when Magwich lets his guard down and then an increase of the wind makes him tense once more. Only using diegetic music also draws attention to smaller sounds for example, when Pip drops the glass later on in the scene. The sharp sound is incredibly obvious compared to all other sounds used in the scene. Secondly the technique of pathetic fallacy is employed through the use of the pouring rain and wind which creates the establishing shot for this scene. The dark, low key lighting and the night sky amplifies the feeling that something negative is going to happen. The diegetic sound of the wind and church bells reflects on the first time the convict was introduced. The parallel scene symbolises the convict’s presence as the church bells gives a link with the church in the opening scene....
