Personal Responsibility
Solomon Richardson Gen/200 February 14 2013 De Lois Billups

Personal Responsibility To be successful one must be cognizant of how they manage their personal responsibilities. Planning ahead and setting time-based goals can be crucial to success and how we will be judged. Being cognizant of personal responsibility is the first step to success. A key factor in being responsible is being aware of how responsibilities are being managed. We pay bills, Clean our homes, and do day-to-day things routinely without thinking about the way in which we doo these things. There should be a time in which we reflect on how we do things, to find the flaws in our actions. After becoming aware of how we manage our responsibilities an honest self-evaluation should be made, evaluating the strong points and weaknesses. Then make an effort to improve on areas where needed. “Personal responsibility (PR) is like the weather: There is a lot of talk about it, but little effective action. While many leaders want to imbue workers with this ethic, most don't know how to make it so. This gap is like an unacknowledged elephant in the safety culture room. If only all workers looked out for themselves, not make excuses nor blame circumstances when something negative occurred, and adjust appropriately as conditions change rather than getting angry or pleading helplessness” (Remmo, 2012). One of the easiest ways to fail in being responsible is just not to do what needs to be done. This happens due to these main reasons forgetfulness and just not having the time to do what needs to be done. Making calendars and setting reminders can help to prevent this. Recent technologies provide many tools witch can be very useful. A Google calendar is a free service witch is easy to use via computer or mobile device. Dates and times can be set for

...Ten seconds left. I can barely hear anything. I feel the vomit creeping up in my throat as the milliseconds go by. Everything is getting very blurry. Tension is rising. Who would have thought that we would be down by one point and I would be the one trusted to hold this basketball? Why did my coach want me to shoot the last shot in the first place? What do I bring on this court that is any different from what my teammates would bring? Every face on my bench is almost frozen, their eyes locked on to me and the ball. There are hundreds of people in the stands watching my every move. Deep breath. Every little thing has to be on point. Nine seconds. I just want to pass the ball away over to my teammate, get rid of it. Why not? Who cares what my coach says? He’s the one who put me in this situation anyways. Eight seconds left. Its just too embarrassing to miss THE final shot in THE final game of the season. I have earned every second I stepped foot on this court and worked too hard for this shot to be a miss. All the time spent practicing and all the injuries, I just cant let myself and everyone down. Seven seconds. I see everyone in the stands jumping up and down but can barely hear them. What do they want from me? i’m 18 years old for crying out loud! It’s not like I’m in the NBA here! I want to see them try and step foot in my shoes right now... Nonsense, focus. My defender looks really intimidating. His muscles contract as his thumbs rub against his fingertips. Boy does he want...

The Shot

...The shot One hour later Martin left the house through the backdoor. It was nearly dark now. He crept along the walls. Suddenly a bucket hit his foot that someone had left. The bucket made a terrible noise. “God dammit!” Martin said and began to run. He ran as fast as he could, towards the garage. Just when he reached it, he heard a shot. In the same moment he jumps into the garage, a bullet hit him and he felt a terrible pain in his left leg. He thought “ Dr. Olney ” as he fell on the ground beside the Land Rover. With great difficulty, Martin throw the macbook and the speaker that he had robbed from Dr. Olney, then crawled into the car himself so he won’t get busted and end up behind bars. He drove as fast as he could away from the house. He had an ugly pain in his left leg, he was crying a bit, but he did not have time to cry, the only thing that was on his mind at that time was that he didn’t want to go to prison so he kept on driving but what he didn’t noticed before was that his leg was bleeding like hell! He couldn’t really feel his leg anymore, and that meant that he could only drive with one leg, which is impossible. Dr. Olney yelled “Come back! And ran straight to his own car. He put the key in, and gassed up the car, drove right into the neighbours trashcan and yelled, “I’ll clean that up tomorrow!” Dr. Olney drove so fast that his hat nearly flew off and out of the window. Martin stopped the car and he looked back to see if Dr. Olney was there, but he couldn’t...

Shot-by-Shot Analysis of a Film

...Shot-by-shot Analysis Life of Pi, a 2012 American 3D adventure drama film that composed of live -action and computer-animated adventure based on Yann Martel's novel. This film is directed by Ang Lee, a movie that tells a story within another story based on one simple truth. In the movie, the narrator pi, who was the only survived young man from the sinking Japanese ship caused by the storm. He made to the lifeboat, yet, he was alone in the center of pacific ocean without any supplies but with a tiger called Richard Parker. However, the theme of this film is not just this exciting adventure but is the implicit conflict between Pi and the tiger; Pi’s rationality of believing in God to the animality aspect of his personality, the animalistic side of human nature that he struggled with. Every scenes have highlighted this meaning of how they survived as a whole. However, I found the sequence of when the main character Pi has his emotional changes from fear tiger to kill tiger to the end of living with the tiger is interesting and it reveals the overall meaning of the theme of the film as well. In this particular sequence, the camera has used long shots repeatedly and frequently to align the audience with the filmed characters and with their feelings. The long shot in the looser framing and the wider angle of vision create sense of negativity between Pi the powerful and isolating environment of the ocean. In a image of this sequence, long shot of Pi catching fishes with his tools while...

Yr11 Catcher in the Rye Speech

...Hello and good morning/evening, what do you believe makes a relationship, is it love, friendship or is it established when you are born between your parents and siblings? How could this everyday phenomenon, which drives our will to live and excel, be so simple? “The Catcher in the Rye” by J.D. Salinger and “The Dark Knight” directed by Christopher Noland are my chosen examples to explore themes such as hatred, mortality and deceit, which consist of various factors affecting relationships like self-isolation, our psychological health and propaganda. “The Cather in the Rye” explores these themes in a Dark, cynical but somewhat compassionate tone, accompanied with moments of humor. “The Dark Knight” is similar and explores the themes in a dark and disturbing tone, with the addition of action. “The Catcher in the Rye” demonstrates the theme of hatred with Holden’s hate towards the adult world around him, however as a consequence this causes personal, social and mental isolation from the world and an inability to create meaningful relationships. This is the main factor for Holden’s isolation from the world, and is symbolized throughout the novel with Holden’s red hunting hat. The majority of the people he encounters are deemed as ‘phonies’ for Holden as they do not follow with his view of the world, this generalization further prevent him from making relationships and reflects upon his immaturity. The last page of the novel and more importantly the quote, “All I know is I sort...

Jello Shots

...I have jello shots in my pockets. It's not comfortable, in fact it's wet and sticky. I don't like it. However, I still have them there and have made no effort to clean up myself. This is because, as I write this, I am drunk and have been my entire life. I have a rare condition that constantly ferments my food and drinks and produces alcohol inside my own body. This is an actual condition where a human is born with an abnormal amount of yeasts inside their intestines. When I eat my food is processed normally and enters my colon where it becomes fecal matter. This is where it gets interesting folks. The crap stays inside my intestines in preparation for exit from my you-know-where but as it stays inside the intestines, the yeast begins to consume any nutrients left, much like dogs eat their own steaming piles after taking a good one, and they create gases that are actually alcohol. The alcohol enters my bloodstream and provides me with a constant drunk feeling. Let me tell you folks, it sucks. I constantly take whizzes on cop cars, fall down laughing, and throw up on my best friend, whoever that may be that day. I have gone to doctors looking for a cure, but even the best ones just say to have a cup of coffee and try to balance the alcohol with caffeine. One actually hypothesized that the removal of my intestines would solve the problem. However, he also proposed the implanting of a snake carcass as snakes have roughly the same length and consistency of a human intestine. The...

Micro Essay- Film

...is set in a woodland forest surrounded by snow and tree trunks. It shows a wide shot of the forest with a dear in the far background. Non-diagetic sound appears when the dear starts to come closer towards the camera. The non-diagetic sound is of a man repeating a prayer. This builds suspension and makes the audience question why he is narrating a prayer. The camera then walks back, and soon focuses on a rifle gun, which is pointing towards the dear, as the non-diagetic sound of the prayer is still being said. This suggests to the audience that the dear is either going to get shot for pleasure, or for food. As soon as the non-diagetic sound of the prayer ends with an “Amen”, the camera comes behind the 2 men, which shows an over shoulder shot, and the gun then gets fired. Diagetic sound of the gunshot is loud and clear. The over shoulder shot, allows us to know who is firing at the dear, and shows us from behind there point of view. Diagetic sound of the dear dying, suggests its been killed in a miserable way. As soon as the rifle has been fired, non-diagetic music appears with a slow beat thud noise. This shows that it’s the ending of the scene. As the slow beat music is playing, the man with a rough looking beard faces towards the young teen that shot the dear, in a proud manner, and taps him on the back. A tapping on the back shows proudness, and a good job. The scene changes to a wide shot of a truck driving along the highway. Non-diagetic sound of the radio is playing...

Shot Tracker

...Manish Adhikari Akshat Kumar Hans Li Pd. 3 – Kosek Title Basketball Shot Tracker Research Proposal Abstract We intend to make a device that tracks a player’s basketball shot. It will detect where the the shot was taken, whether the shot was made or missed, and display the information to a website. We will do this by using a wrist sensor that will track when a shot is taken and a sensor on the hoop that will detect when a shot is made. The data will be sent to a program that will process and display the information on a website. This program is intended to help basketball players improve their shooting. Problem/Purpose/Engineering Goals We are trying to create a technology. The purpose for doing this is that when people are practicing basketball, unless they want to create a new diagram every single time on paper and track where they shot from and whether or not they made the shot, they don’t receive feedback on their shooting percentage or anything like that. There is a mental part to playing basketball, and if someone knows that he is consistently improving his shot every day, then he will be more confident while playing and an overall better player. Our project hopes to make the shot tracking process easier and less time consuming. Background There’s always room to improve in basketball so our objective is to create a tool that will help optimize the rate of development of one’s shooting skill. While this technology already currently exists, we are trying...

Long Shot

... The service condition, instead, requires that the eligible employees have to be still employed by Long Shot after the three-year reporting period. These conditions have both to be met to vest the options. Based on ASC 718-10-30-27 Long Shot should use the $9 grant-date fair value to measure its compensation cost. The codification determines that performance and service conditions are not reflected in the estimate of the fair value of an award at the grant date because those conditions are restrictions that stem from the forfeitability of instruments to which employees have not yet earned the right. Since the $6 grant-date fair value has the revenue target factored into the fair value assessment it should not be used. Plus to strengthen the previous stated paragraph, ASC 718-10-55-64 says “Performance or service conditions that only affect vesting are excluded from the estimate of grant-date fair value”. As mentioned above current conditions affect exclusively vesting and thus are not to be factored into the fair value at the grant date. Compensation cost is generally recognized from the grant date through the vesting date. ASC 718-10-30 requires an estimate of the requisite service period based on an analysis of all vesting conditions, explicit, implicit, and derived service periods, and the probability that performance or service conditions will be satisfied. Long Shot should recognize compensation cost associated with the stock options over three years, because Management...

Three Shots

...Three Shots Every body has to die and most people fear the death eventually. The fear encompasses the anxiety of the unknowing which can entail anything dependent on our age, our social awareness, the surroundings etc. However, apparently the fear will develop as people go through changes in their life. This is what the short story “Three Shots” by Ernest Hemingway revolves about, where a omniscient narrator acquaints the recipient with the main character Nick’s feelings. The story starts in medias res where the main character Nick is in the forest with his father and his Uncle George. Together they have went on a fishing trip into the forrest. Nick finds himself alone in a tent, in which he is looking back on last night’s happenings, thus the recipient meets with a flashback. His father and Uncle George have left the camp and instead they have gone fishing, and sudden Nick reaches the peak of his feelings. Nick is frightened, which is obvious when he walks trough the woods at night leaving the lake and the elder men “He was always a little frightened of the woods at night”. The darkness, the silence, perhaps the unknowing make him fear the death and it reminds him that he himself have to die eventually which causes to another flashback. In conclusion there is three parts of the story, which can be combined with Nick’s emotional stages. At first he realizes that someday he must die, “someday the silver cord will break”, which scares him and as a result makes him feel sick...

A Different Shot

...A Different Shot My chosen text is “In Creve Coeur, Missouri” by Rosanna Warren. Only in Creve Coeur would an expert photographer firebug snap a shot so eloquent: fireman bent low over the rag of body held like impossible laundry pulled too soon from the line, too pale, too sodden with smoke to flail in his huge, dark, crumpled embrace. He leans to the tiny face. her hair stands out like flame. She is naked, she has no name. No longer a baby, almost a child, not yet a ghost, she presses a doll-like fist to his professional chest. Her head falls back to his hand. Tell us that she will stand again, quarrel and misbehave. He is trying to make her breathe Strong man, you know how it’s done, you've done it again and again sucking the spirit back to us from its lair of smoke. We'll call it a fine surprise The snapshot won a prize and the fireman saved her that night in Creve Coeur. 9/11, the Columbine Massacre, the Holocaust, Hurricane Katrina. All four were terrible and sad events. Yet, the photographs taken of these events are some of the most moving in the world. They may show some of the saddest things one can imagine, but they are still looked at as beautiful. The photographers of these events are said to be masters of their craft, and they receive praise from thousands of people, but what about the family members of those depicted in these pictures. How would you feel if you lost your mother? Even better, how would you feel...

A Shot in the Light

...A SHOT IN THE LIGHT The story is about a “Good Samaritan”, who picks up an unlucky motorist named Ray. The “Good Samaritan” is the narrator. He seems like a nice and honest man throughout the whole story. In the middle of the story, Ray the unlucky motorist, shoots the narrator four times. The narrator doesn’t even get mad. Maybe it’s because of his wounds, but still. The reader can rely on the narrator, but Ray can’t. He expects the guy to die and then the narrator just don’t?! That’s the most unreliable you can be! Just a joke. The story is set in the past, at least it’s told like it’s something that has happened in the past. The story ends with these lines: I kept my promise. I like to think Ray kept his. Again, this shows the narrators reliability, and his good nature. The last couple of lines are told in present time. Like the narrator is telling you the story right now. Over a cup of coffee, maybe? Or tea, if you don’t like coffee. The narrator could drink both, because he is a good person. He has his own small jewelry business; he is friendly, calm and unsuspecting. After Ray shoots him, he feels no need to take revenge and no anger. Ray on the other hand, is the complete opposite of the narrator. Of course it’s a big minus, walking around shooting people, but his behavior has its reasons. Ray comes from a background of drugs and crime and a violent father. Ray’s plan has always been to shoot the narrator, from the moment the narrator picked him up. But the narrator is...

...with a point of view shot of David. It shows a corner of the room. In the room, an ambience sound is like from the universe. The next shot is an extreme close-up of David. Some colorful reflections of light fall on his face. David’s head shakes. His face is reddish with a tense expression. This shot has a warm tone. By contrast, the following shot has a cooler tone. It is a view of the bedroom with the dock station in it. This wide shot shows the mise-en-scene. The room design is classic European style. Then there are two more shots of different angles of the same scene. The next shot repeats the extreme close-up of David, which appears earlier. The David’s breath gets heavier. Then, it is cut to the shot that is shown at the very beginning of the Room sequence, but this time David himself stands beside the bathroom in red spacesuit. The red color is in a sharp contrast with the room color. Following that, the film is cut to medium shot of David, and then cut to close-up of David’s wrinkled face. Next is a wide shot that shows David crosses the room along a diagonal line. In the following shot, David walks in the bathroom, which does not show the continuity of the spacing. In other words, the editing does not follow the continuity of the character’s movement. Then, the camera pans from left to right in the bathroom. The camera angle is high, as if David looks down, to show the bathtub, floor, etc. After a close-up of David, there is an aperture-framing shot, in which, David looks...
