Persuasive Essay: Should Fife council stop blocking internet sites in schools
The great and eye-popping work of Picasso, the writing talents of Stephenie Meyer, the music stylings of Bob Marley. All of these talents are just one click away when “WEBSENSE” pops up blocking all access. It is truly the most hated word in any I.T class at school. In a 2003 poll only 1% of websites who originate from UK had illegal content says the “Internet Watch Foundation” All across schools in Fife the “WEBSENSING” is getting far too out of hand! The council is apparently worried about what us the children of Fife encounter while surfing the net. They are considering the idea of blocking internet access in school altogether. This would have monstrous consequences as it would prevent lots of lessons in the classroom. To be honest I think they should stop blocking sites altogether so we can access all the wonderful music, pictures and information which are at the moment forbidden.
The internet is a great place to get advice. Some teenager especially girls are embarrassed to go to their parent if they have a problem. The web if full of “Self Help” websites which lots of teens refer to. Sometimes when a teenager is more informed about the problem they have encountered they can find it easier to talk to their parents about it. For example anorexia or bulimia.
The internet has excellent resources for doing your homework. When I do my homework I normally use Wikipedia or I type the topic in Google, which 9 times out of 10 produces a useful website for me to use. They are a lot easier and quicker to use than going to a library and spending hours going through books. It would be much better if we could access these websites inside school because we could further out learning in the topic we are studying. 86% of internet use in schools is positive says and online
