Kindergarten is the start of grade school for a five and six-year-old. Therefore, a child is officially a kindergartner when they get the chance to ride the big yellow school bus, eat in a large cafeteria, learn basic academics, enjoy different specials like PE, Media center, and music. Furthermore, a kindergarten begins to learn the importance of academics, and begin the transition from receiving a nap to not having a nap at all. Naps is the concern, and the question to answer is should kindergartners still receive naps, if so how does naps affect their academics? According to Whiting (2015) Teachers and school districts have traded nap time for academics. Instead of napping children are doing math, reading, writing, science, and social studies. Furthermore, in order to have a better understanding of the affects naps have we should take a look at the needs of a kindergartener.
