Should Students Get Paid For Good Grades?

As kids, children get a candy for being on there best behavior. In middle school or high school, students get spoiled for either getting good grades or acing an exam. In society, grown ups get paid for their duties that comes from their job. In today’s society, it looks like students are getting paid for good grades. Although cash incentives motivates students to study for a test, or getting good grades. Or can there be other ways to reward the students. The question to me is, Should students get rewarded with money for good grades? Or should they not be getting paid for good grades?
I do agree that students can get motivated to study if they are getting paid do so. Providing a reward can enable the students to focus and do their work in class. However, therefore I strongly disagree that students shouldn’t get paid for receiving good grades or acing exams. Honestly, getting good grades is expected from your parents, its like saying “I deserve a car since I graduated high school”. No, you’re expected to graduate from high school no matter what. Therefore it’s an expectation, your parents expect you to get good grades. Soon the student will get used to getting money from their parents, later they will become crazy buying useless things that end up in the garbage.
One school in Chicago implemented this policy to reward students based on their grades. However, after a year, suddenly the school was forced to discontinue the policy due to lack of funds. Although this policy was effective, it is short- lived; the cost of this policy is not possible for schools to hold up to. Some may argue that reducing the amount of cash rewards the students receive would solve the problem. This problem could also result in the decrease in effectiveness of this policy, or the school loosing money, which they did, that can cause many teachers to retire due to the lack of funds.
Based on recent study from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, they state that money is not a very effective motivator. If a task is very simple, a straight forward and involves only mechanical skills; then chances are that a higher pay may result in a better performance. Although, if the task is complicated that requires conceptual, creative thinking and involves rudimentary cognitive skills; it would not be successful. Instead, it would be the complete opposite. Many of the studies have proved that recognizing student's accomplishments is the ultimately the best motivator, it does not mean that you need to recognize there accomplishments by giving them cash.
It’s the student’s responsibility to study and get good grades. Students should study because they want to, not to be forced to. Its wrong to lure students into studying by using cash as it gives them an idea that money can somewhat “control the world” everything does revolve around money, Which is a sad truth that they don’t understand that money does control the world and them. Although this policy encourages the wrong things. Students may get so caught up in focusing on making more money that they assumed getting good grades is purely for the money and not for learning. As I stated, their parents always expect getting good grades and studying from them.
In conclusion, I believe that students should not get paid for getting good grades. In the process, I believe they are being taught the wrong motive attributes and confuses themselves with the matters and does not matters. Moreover, the policy cannot be sustained due to the lack of funds and studies have also proven that money is a bad motivator. Your expected to receive good grades from your family and mentors.

Students Should Not Be Paid For Good Grades Essay

...nowadays. The main cause of that might be because you are willing to reward them with money for getting good grades and now that you've said that, your child may think they can earn money by asking for money for every good deed they do. Personally, I don't think paying your child just because of good grades is a good idea. It can lead to problems about school. For example, it can increase the amount of stress, it can affect your child's natural enthusiasm to learn or be educated. Here are my reasons why I think paying your child for good grades isn't one of the best ideas. Initially, parents shouldn't pay their children due to high levels or issues or stress. According to the NEA article it states, "Many teachers, also paying students for good grades leads to practical problems in the classrooms, those of which include pressure to inflate grades...

Why We Should Be Able To Pay Students For Better Grades

... Many people have their little tips and tricks to get motivated, from spoiling themselves with candy, to getting paid. But is paying kids for good grades an acceptable and effective dynamo? Schools should be willing to put in a little extra money for students to improve and do better. Rewarding students can result in many positive effects on their lives. This includes many kids getting better test scores, higher graduation rates, and helping their families with financial issues. From helping students with their families, to higher graduation rates and test scores, schools should be willing to pay students for superior grades. To begin, students should get paid for admirable grades on the grounds that it helps them get better test scores. Chan from John Hopkins University claimed, ”In Dallas, Texas, 10,000 students passed advanced placement tests for a reward of $400, compared to the year before when only about 6,000 students passed.” Consequently, 4,000 more students passed the tests due to the fact that they would be rewarded. This means that students would most likely study harder and pay more attention in class when a reward is in mind. The effect of this is kids getting better grades overall. Better grades will allow high schoolers to...

Compensation for Grades

...Compensation for Grades Coming home with stickers used to be satisfactory enough for children to do well in school; but now-a-days a pocket full of money seems to be the only reward. Inner city schools that have low- test scores use money as a way to boost test scores in order to receive the necessary funding. Paying for grades is manipulative, and contradicts the traditional method of learning, and also the resources the school systems are using come from the government and the resources are not there to pay the children. Therefore student should not be paid to their grades. Kids know they are being manipulated and lose interest in learning as soon as the rewards are withdrawn (Unknown). If students are only going to school for the money, they will eventually lose interest and find other ways to get the money. If teachers were doing their job well money would not be needed to motivate the children. There are workshops and other other that are offered to the teachers to keep the kids interested. If the methods that have been proven to work in other school around the state why would it not work in the inner city schools as well. Although teachers have notices a change in attitudes is the change for the better (Next). Parents are also manipulating the children for the benefit of the money. Parents who didn’t care if their student was coming home with a C are suddenly very interested when their children come home with a hundred dollars (Does). Children who live in poverty would...

Reward System Examples

...When a mom or a dad promises a Nintendo 3DS to his/her child if he/she gets a good grade, the child gets motivated and works hard to earn good grades. This is one example of the reward system. In this generation, parents reward their students for “good” behavior so often that this practice is beginning to be questioned. Reward can be in any form like toys, gadgets, and money. Money is most desired among high school and college students who are in school. The application of this reward system is popular in scholastic concerns especially as to avoid the proliferation of low grades among students. If parents pay their high school students for good grades, the students won’t only earn good grades but also acquire more good grades, money management...

Should Students Get Paid To Go To School Essay

...Kids should get paid to go to school or at least get an reward for there work. Not in money, gift card, or even bribes. Not all students are going to go to college or a trade school most are going to just work at a simple job. Students rewards should be separated into three parts the ones that are going to attend college, the ones that are going to trade schools, and the ones that are not attending either of them and just going into a job right away. Should Students Get Paid at School

...Should Students Get Paid at School? Would you like to get paid at school? The idea of students getting paid at school is very important to think about. My personal opinion is that students should get paid at school because it gives the student a real world experience. I think students should get paid at school because students will learn to be independent. If students get good marks they will earn money. Since the students will earn money, they will rely on themselves to buy supplies, clothes, games and more for themselves. Students will not have to go to their parents to ask for money to buy things. Students won’t have to go their parents to ask for money when there are fundraisers at school or any trips. Since the students have money they will learn to spend money wisely. They won’t spend money on things they If students start to get paid at school they will experience having a job. They will learn that if they do well they will get paid more which is what happens at a job. When you do a good job at work your boss pays your more. Also students will learn to handle money. When students start to earn money they will know how to use and spend the money. They won’t spend the money on useless things as much as they would when they don’t get paid at school. Students don’t understand how much work it takes to earn money and so they keep on spending money. When they start earning money they will understand how to use and...

Should College Athletes Get Paid Essay

...Should College Athletes Get Paid? College athletes should be paid for playing at the college level. This topic is interesting to me because it has been a debatable topic for a long time. College athletes deserve to get a pay check because they are still responsible to keep their grades up while playing and training for football. They work harder than the pros because they have more of a motivation to get to the higher profession than someone who is already there. They can use that money to help support their families. The coaches are getting paid but they don’t play a sport or endure in a sport. The NCAA is making a profit out of them. In all honesty, the college athletes are one of the most hardest working athletes that don’t get paid. College...

...Delvon Johnson Eng 112 Ms. Pryor 22 September 2015 Should college athletes get paid? Many people debate if college athletes should get paid. Yes, college athletes should receive some form of financial compensation. College athletes represent their university, while their university reap all the financial gain. College athletes are asked to uphold the highest standards while representing the school, which include, but not limited to getting good grades, playing to their full potential, and to present themselves in a respectful way in the community at all times. Gaming companies are allowed to use their likeness and the student will never see one penny. Is it fair that a college athlete has worked all their life to become the best of the best in their conference and although they are the ones that put in all the hard work someone else make all the millions? Coaches push their athletes to the max to be the greatest and to win them a championship. Coaches may not care about their player’s education because their players are allowed to miss up to a quarter of all class days during their spring semester. Sometimes coaches will cheat the system to assist certain players because they know if they do not make the grades or get into any sort of trouble outside the field, their star athletes will not be able to play in the Big Games. This is an important fact because some of the mishaps players get themselves into come from their lack of having money to do certain things...

Also eighty percent of college students work jobs to support themselves with food and clothes, while away from home. Many college athletes have complained of going to bed hungry because they do not have enough money for food. College Athetes Compensation

...questions to whether or not student-athletes should be paid for their efforts. As Forbes' Chris Smith wrote, CBS and Turner Broadcasting make more than $1 billion off the games, "thanks in part to a $700,000 ad rate for a 30-second spot during the Final Four." Athletic conferences receive millions of dollars in payouts from the NCAA when their teams advance deep into the tournament. Ditto for the coaches of the final squads standing. (US News and World Report, 2014) Unfortunately, the players don’t ever get to see any of that money, even though they risk career-ending injuries each time they step out onto the court, field or rink. In March of last year, Louisville Cardinals Kevin Ware suffered a gruesome broken leg, he successfully had surgery but it is still uncertain whether or not he will return. A group of former players filed an antitrust lawsuit alleging that student athletes should be entitled to some of the money the NCAA makes off of using their names and likenesses on merchandise such as jerseys, video games, Ads. Etc. If college athletes were allowed to accept money it would encourage good grades, make a good incentive program, and help with recruitment of players. Up until now the debate over whether a college athlete should be compensated during their sports career was just a debate; this has recently turned into more than that. In my opinion compensating the players would encourage them to be better students and make better grades. Many people agree that any...

Cheating in the Academic Setting

...Carlos Andrés Muñiz Mr. Moore AP English Language and Composition 12 August 15 Cheating in the Academic Setting It seems like it was too long ago when kids actually realized the importance of learning. Although now a days it seems like every student isn’t interested in learning, he or she is interested in the reward that comes along with it. Being in the top ten percent of your class, being valedictorian, or getting accepted into the college of your dreams, that’s what passes off as important in school now. Sure, it kind of is, but if you don’t learn anything, then you’re cheating yourself and just wasting your time. The point of going to school isn’t to get good grades, or be the most popular kid, or be even be the smartest…we all go to school for nothing more than to learn. You can walk around just about any school, in any state, at just about any time of the day, and I’m willing to put money on the line that you will see a group of students sitting around a bench sharing last night’s homework. Students are so accustomed to cheating; they think it’s 100 percent normal. This bothers me so much because they’ve put so much effort into learning the best way to cheat over the years that you can’t help but smile and think “, If you would put half the effort you put into learning how to cheat, you might have honestly passed Mr. Moore’s English class.” Yet people don’t realize how bad it seriously is. In our present day society, kids are overwhelmed with the idea that...

Granted, some athletes are better than other but all of them should get some money from their sales they bring in. Such as if their jersey gets sold out servel months in a row or something. It just makes sense. Other reason for them being paid is that they live off nothing. Most of them are to busy playing football and keeping good grades they can't get a job. So how are they supposs to feed themselves to make themselves all star football they need to be. Also, if they get injuried in the game, they are completly in the wrong. They have to pay the whole medical bill. How are they suppose to do that without any money?...
