...exogenous difference in the timing of academic Abstract specialization within the British system of higher education to test whether education yields information about one’s match quality in different fields of study. In distinguishing between systems requiring early and late specialization, he predicts the likelihood of an individual switching to an occupation unrelated to one’s field of study. If higher education serves mainly to provide specific skills, the model predicts more switching in a system requiring late specialization since the cost of switching is lower in terms of foregone skills. Using the Universities Statistical Record from 1972 to 1993 and the 1980 National Survey of Graduates and Diplomates, he finds that individuals who specialize early, as in the case of England, are more likely to switch to an unrelated occupation, implying that the benefits to increased match quality are sufficiently large to outweigh the greater loss in skills from specializing early. With regard to instruction, economists have made substantial progress in specifying and identifying the economic value of higher education, as it increases the value productivity of human agents as workers . . . the much neglected activity is that of discovering talent. It, too, can be approached by treating it as a process which provides students with opportunities to discover whether they have the particular capabilities that are required for the type and level of education at which they are working. — Theodore...

...careers. The educational requirements for a Radiologic Technologist include formal training programs in radiography that lead to a certificate, an associate’s degree, or a bachelor’s degree. Associate’s degree programs are the most common. Certificate programs typically last 6 to 12 months. Typical programs include both classroom training and clinical training. Coursework includes anatomy, pathology, patient care, radiation physics and protection, and image evaluation. The Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT) accredits educational and training programs in radiography. Completing an accredited program is required for licensure in some states. High school students who are interested in radiologic technology should take courses that focus on science and math. Suggested courses include anatomy, biology, chemistry, physiology, mathematics, and physics. Radiologic technologists must be licensed or certified in most states; requirements vary by state. To be licensed in most states, radiologic technologists must have graduated from an accredited program and must pass a certification exam from the state or from The American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT). To keep their certification, radiologic technologists must meet continuing education requirements. Students must also hold a 3.0 G.P.A. ...because they have different reasons for majoring in this career path. The most common reason to all people is because accounting is a marketable career and they merely want to find a job. The number of people majoring in this field is growing immensely and the most important thing is to consider the main reason of joining this profession. Some people will claim that when they were in high school, this was their best subject and they loved it and so they will need to major in it. I believe the best reason for majoring in accounting is because it has wide varieties of career path that one can major in. People should understand that this field is not all about debits and credits. It is more of a communicating language in the world of business and this is why many chief executive officers hold a degree in this field. In the day today life it is usually one of the most common undergraduate degree programs. The most important thing is to make certain that all of the people who are in this profession understand business and that is why many people who have ventured in accounting always have considerations for such posts. The most interesting part of this career choice is that most of the time the people who venture into it will always have the best job positions waiting for them because many people always have a notion that it is a difficult discipline. The employment opportunities are abounding for the graduates majoring in accounting. The government figures shows that at least 1.2 million...

...Many reviewers claimed that the 3.0 Web OS reminded them of the Apple iOS, which would lead to a major downfall for the HP touchpad. Hewlett-Packard is an American information technology company that specializes in enterprise systems, software, PC’s, printers, and services that wanted to try and seize a piece of the mobile market, specifically a piece of the tablet market share. With HP’s main focus being enterprise systems, software and services, there was no backing for the TouchPad by the CEO. Figure 1 shows the tablets in the market at the time the HP TouchPad was launched and the comparisons between them all. Figure 1. Figure 1. Two months after being on the market, HP dropped the TouchPad and WebOS business to focus on their more successful areas (Reisinger 2011). In order for the HP TouchPad to succeed, it must have a differentiation from all the other tablets on the market. Many reviewers claimed that the product was to close to the iPad 2 in size and operating system. HP’s marketing strategies also lagged due to the limited research and development of the product because of a fast paced launch date. By rushing the launch date, HP never got to promote the advantages of their product compared to its competitors. For the NPD marketing strategy, HP should make their product unique to a point that the tablet stands out from competitors, but not so much that it is an elephant in the room....

...Module 8 Paper Business research methods Literature Review March 8, 2013 Abstract The purpose of this paper is to review literature discussing the issue of liberal arts and business. In this literature review, the distinguishing factors between liberal arts and business are discussed. The paper discuses the importance of each discipline and reviews the importance of aligning these disciplines into a university curricula to widen the perspective of college graduates, and improve their overall well being as human beings and as professionals. This review has shown that greater importance should be given to the qualities that liberal arts education brings to the work place and the society in general. By blending liberal arts and business education, graduates are equipped with multiple tools to tackle adversities in their work place, think analytically, and solve problems they might encounter which are not thought in traditional classroom environment. Introduction What is liberal art? According to Bogart, 2011, it's an education that provides an overview of the arts, humanities (the study of the human condition), social sciences, mathematics and natural sciences. Traditionally, liberal art majors find it more difficult obtaining employment because it is assumed that their area of study is not specific enough or perhaps lacks the concentration needed to contribute quickly in a business organization. The advantages a liberal art education provides for a student is the ability...

...suicidal, misguided attempts at competing globally (along with rapidly developing opportunities in the global marketplace) have placed a dramatic premium on individuals who take the time to properly train themselves in international business. For me, the Columbia MBA is a significant component of this training. I foresee my own career moving in the direction of European/American business, initially from an advisory perspective (i.e. investment banking or consulting) and ultimately from a leadership role within a manufacturing entity, preferably a start-up venture. This prophecy, in part, has evolved from my past experiences in western and eastern Europe which, in turn, have formed my opinions about certain opportunities that should emerge in the future: there should be, with a good degree of certainty, immense windfall gains and comparative advantages for US-trained/thinking business leaders and managers in the European markets in the coming years. This foresight along with my personal entrepreneurial bent and an affinity for finance will play a large role in the...

Early in 2007 we resurveyed the class of 2005 to find out what they were doing with their bachelor’s degree since graduation.1 This Data Brief, the first in a series of downloadable publications from the second wave of the survey, provides information on the post-graduate activities of graduates, the kinds of jobs they held as of December 2006, their satisfaction with these jobs, and the changes in their overall satisfaction with the sociology major. Figure 1 compares the 2005 responses of senior majors as to their future plans with their 2007 reports as to what they actually were doing. There is considerable discrepancy in the value of the maximum speed attained— 614 miles per hour (mph) or 714 mph—in material available over the internet. Using a very simple physical model we are able to conclude that the lower figure is correct and that it is likely that Colonel Kittinger did not ‘break the sound barrier’ during his descent. The wealth of audio-visual material and animations available makes this a particularly attractive case study to instruct students in elementary kinematics, approximation and physical modelling. Introduction On 16 August 1960, Captain (later Colonel) Joseph Kittinger, USAF, jumped from the helium filled balloon Excelsior III, at an altitude of 31 600 m (102 800 ft). His parachute jump remains the highest altitude...
