In this lab, the purpose was to find a silver alloy’s silver content. The alloy was 75.26% silver according to my gravimetric analysis calculation. The accepted value was 92% silver. The percent error was 18.20%. This percent error was pretty significant. In this lab, it was possible that the wrong mass amounts were measured, that could have caused irregular resulting amounts. Too much water or liquid could have been added, which would have resulted in a larger mass and smaller percentage of silver in silver chloride. Also, if the crucible containing the silver chloride was not cool when it was weighed, it would have resulted in a higher percentage (for more information, refer to DQ#6). The crucible contained the silver chloride precipitate.
