“The Shot” mimics “An Evening on Bivouac,” through its stories within a story. I.L.P tells each story within his own, Silvio tells one, and the count tells another. However, none had a conclusive satisfactory ending. I.L.P cannot finish his own story because Silvio’s story ends with inaction on his part and the count’s ended at a point when we need to know more.
