We live in such a privileged country, as American citizens we have the right to do pretty much anything we want. If we want to go blow all of our money on random junk, we can. We can do or become anything we want. The two lovely things that give us this permission are known as Liberty and License. This essay will discuss the similarities and differences between the two.

Liberty is something you have to earn just like you would a license. The freedom to do something will never be free. Whether it is you have to go take a test or go off to war. Another thing they both have in common would be they are both privileges. Just think about it, not every country has the same opportunities as us. It ties in with the fact you have to earn it, its

...the ideas that Locke and Hobbes synthesized during the Enlightenment of State of Nature. State of Nature state's political power comes from the people and should be given to other people or another person. Furthermore, limited government requires a social contact in the United States’ case it would be the Constitution. A social contract expects the people to obey the laws, contribute to funding the government with taxes for common defense and to expect the rights of other people. Meanwhile, the government's duty from a social contract is to establish justice, enforcing the Rule of Law first established by the Romans; guard the domestic peace and happiness, idea enforced by Thomas Hobbes in the Leviathan; and ensure that the people have liberty, concept synthesized by Locke, Voltaire and Montesquieu during the Enlightenment. Moreover, Separation of powers Separations of powers in the United States was inspired by the Romans, English government, and the philosopher Montesquieu. Political power...

I think that some of the differences are due to the era that we were each brought up in and what is considered to be the norm for that time frame. Most of the life events that we all three experienced are normative events, such as getting married, having a job, moving out of our parents’ house, and having children. In addition to the normative events, there are also some nonnormative events. These include divorce, going to college later in life, and not finishing high school. A difference between the three of us is the education level. My grandmother was expected to quit school so she was able to take care of her house and her children. My mother finished high school and then got a job right away. A lot jobs did not require a college education back then. Even though I did not start college until I was in my...

Differences in Counseling and Other Health Professions

...1 Orientation to APA Style/ Week 4 Research Paper Liberty University October 12, 2014 2 Abstract In this research paper I will attempt to show the differences and similarities between counselors and other mental health professions. The findings were quite unique but not at all shocking. There was an equal amount of information on the differences and similarities amongst the counseling, psychology, and pyschiatric professions. However, the differences stood out far more than similarities. I also will display the characteristics needed to become an effective counselor. These characteristics I found are very challenging to an aspiring counselor and cannot be approached with emotional weakness. The characteristics of an effective counselor are the foundation to the profession itself. My last evaluation will be a professional counselor's ability to recognize wellness and impairment within themselves to prevent burnout. A counseling professional's wellness and impairment is very important to maintain effectiveness. I will break down the effects of the profession without...

Gay Rights In America

...State legislatures, voters and more recently the courts have made sweeping changes over the past two decades in laws defining whether marriage is limited to relationships between a man and a woman or is extended to same sex couples. Gay marriage and gay rights are a major controversy in the world today. It is a constant debate on whether or not traditional marriage is out-of-date and that a new way is better. Although many believe in gay rights, it is difficult to support something that is against the foundation of America, and something that is harmful to the people of America. The Founding Fathers envisioned a government that would promote and encourage Christianity. The founding fathers wanted a firm foundation of christianity for America;...

According to anthropologists the first human beings lived in Ethiopia, Africa around 2 million years ago for example: Lucy known as the oldest human found there. The most probable reason why the first human left Africa is because of the Ice Age. The cold made life so difficult to survive and somehow reduced in their population. They went through a land bridge, which existed to connect North America and Asia during the Ice Age. * What was the Columbian Exchange? How did the Columbian Exchange affect Europe? The Quality of Date

...The Quality of Data Introduction Value Errors Missing Data and Bad Structures Entity Resolution Anonymous Resolution Conclusion 34 35 39 50 62 66 1 DATA MINING FOR INTELLIGENCE Introduction Computer processors are faster than ever, storage is fairly cheap, network bandwidth is continually expanding, and information technologies are capable of integrating massive amounts of data. With all of these high-end systems and capabilities, there is still a limitation on performing effective analytics and much of this has to do with the quality of the data collected throughout the years. The real challenge lies in improving the accuracy of the data through better collection and representation methods. Only when this problem is appropriately addressed can one realistically expect to see improvement in the detection and analytics of fraud, terrorism, money laundering, and other critical areas. One high-profile situation emphasizes this point. It was reported1 that Senator Edward Kennedy (Massachusetts) was stopped while boarding airline fl ights on five different occasions because his name matched an entry on a government no-fly list. Additionally, Congressman John Lewis (Georgia) claims he was required to submit to additional security checks because his name also matched one on a watch list. In both cases, the data processed by these systems represented only a limited portion of what was necessary to properly perform an appropriate match. Ultimately the situations were...

...A NEW BIRTH OF FREEDOM?: OBERGEFELL V. HODGES Kenji Yoshino The decision in Obergefell v. Hodges1 achieved canonical status even as Justice Kennedy read the result from the bench. A bare majority held that the Fourteenth Amendment required every state to perform and to recognize marriages between individuals of the same sex.2 The majority opinion ended with these ringing words about the plaintiffs: “Their hope is not to be condemned to live in loneliness, excluded from one of civilization’s oldest institutions. They ask for equal dignity in the eyes of the law. The Constitution grants them that right.”3 While Obergefell’s most immediate effect was to legalize same-sex marriage across the land, its long-term impact could extend far beyond this context. To see this point, consider how much more narrowly the opinion could have been written. It could have invoked the equal protection and due process guarantees without specifying a formal level of review, and then observed that none of the state justifications survived even a deferential form of scrutiny. The Court had adopted this strategy in prior gay rights cases.4 Instead, the Court issued a sweeping statement that could be compared to Loving v. The Works of Virginia Woolf

...assortment of members of Edwardian society whose lives and relationships reveal much about the world from which they come. Through witty comedy and stark tragedy, Woolf examines such themes as family, culture, and the individual in this remarkable portrait of modern life. Its unique and lyrical style, which has garnered the novel praise since its first publication, adds an artistic dimension to this surprisingly current novel. Indeed,The Voyage Out is a beautiful and telling work about self and society that rings as true today as in 1915. 1919, Night and Day [pic] [pic] Originally published in 1919, Night and Day contrasts the daily lives of four major characters while examining the relationships between love, marriage, happiness, and success. Like Virginia Woolf's first novel The Voyage Out, Night and Day is a more traditional narrative than her later novels. Unlike her first novel, however, Night and Day relies much more on its characters' internal struggles to push the its plot forward. What results is a character study of a very quiet group of people who are actually in the throes of deep anxiety and indecision. 1922, Jacob’s Room [pic] Who is Jacob Flanders? In Virginia Woolf’s 1922 novel, Jacob’s Room, we follow the life of a promising...

The Cultural, Political and Legal Environment of International Business

...al The cultural, political and legal environment of international business Abstract A study of the elements of a domestic market and those of an international market may reveal many crucial differences, especially political, legal and cultural differences. For example, the "rules of the game” of business in the international market are diverse, changeable and often unclear. The international firm may have to content with different legal and ethical standards in different host countries. In this paper the parameters of the political, legal, and the cultural environment of international business will be considered, The paper also relates how political, legal, and cultural incidents or situations may become roadblocks to the smooth operation of business ventures in foreign countries. Misunderstandings and breakdown in communication often arise from differences in perception by executives who are not from the same cultural, legal and political background. International investors need to know what elements in a foreign culture have the greatest influence over consumption patterns in general and particularly the consumption behaviour to their specific product. By reflecting on the language, religion, demography, climate, values and beliefs, education, labour, roles of women, family, ethnic groups and other similar elements, the international business person will be able to, not only participate in the international economy with a better perception of the situation, but also be able...

...pervasive corruption. Historically China has relied upon “the rule of man” and the belief that legal rights are derived from the power of the individual. Upon joining the WTO, China agreed to continue to reform its business environment and to move toward transparent, rules based, enforcement-oriented standards. But the business reality is far from the WTO obligations specifically in the continued controversy over the protection of intellectual property. Chinese enterprises are themselves becoming global investors, both by acquiring foreign firms and investing in foreign lands. INTRODUCTION For a multinational enterprise to succeed in countries with different political and legal environments, its management must carefully analyze the fit between its corporate policies and the political and legal conditions of each particular nation in which it operates. The element that can influence international business are: role of government in society, political ideologies, political risk, legal environment and operational and strategic legal issue. THE POLITICAL ENVIRONMENT A political system is the complete set of institutions, political organizations, and interest groups, the relationships among those institutions, and the...

Comparision of the Causes and Results of the French and American Revolutions

...others. However, the public through an electoral process most commonly selects these decision-makers. These decision-making individuals were not always selected by the public, and in some such instances, the few that ruled over others were overthrown after their actions earned the discontent of the people. Both the American Revolution and the French Revolution can be grouped as these events. In both the American and French Revolution, the ruler was regarded as a tyrant and overthrown for the benefit of the public. Although the aims of the two revolutions were quite similar, there were many differences between them. The American Revolution and the French Revolution can be categorized as events where rulers were overthrown due to their actions; however, no matter how similar the causes, there are many differences between the events of the two revolutions. The French-Indian War of 1754 was a war between the British and the French to gain control over North American colonies. The British eventually defeated the French but owed a great debt and expected the colonies to help pay for the cost of the war. The British wished to cut down on costs in its North American colonies so King George implemented the Proclamation of 1763. This restricted the expansion of the colonies westward; as a result, the colonists were not allowed to settle past the Appalachian Mountains. By restricting the colonies’ expansion, the British government hoped to reduce the amount of conflicts the colonists were having...

Data

...Data Mining Data mining began with the advent of databases. Databases are warehouses full of computer data. Computer scientists began to realize that this data contains patterns and relationship to other sets of data. As computer technology emerged, data was extracted into useful information. Often, hidden relationships began to appear. Once this data became known and useful, industries grew around data mining. Data mining is a million dollar business aimed at improving marketing, research, criminal apprehension, fraud detection and other applications. History of Data Mining Computers began to be more widely used in the 1960’s. Computers were used to collect and store data. The data was stored on tapes and disks. The companies and organizations began to wonder about the data that was stored. They wanted to know about past sales, past performances and other pertinent information that was stored on these tapes and disks. The next step was to find an accurate way to retrieve the needed information without manually reading all the data. The next step in this quest came in the 1980’s with relational databases and structured queries. Query language could be used to find out more of what was in the data. The companies and organizations could now identify what has happened in the past. They also wanted to know how to apply this knowledge to future predictions based on past performances. In 1989, the first knowledge discovery workshop was held in Detroit (SQL Data Mining, 2012)...
