Although the Enlightment Period has similarities relating to the Romantic Period, they also have several differences between one another. During the Enlightment Period, people believed that the natural world and even human behavior could be explained scientifically. On the other hand, the Romantics rejected the entire idea of science. In fact, those of the Romantic Period actually had a valid point. In Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein, Victor attempts to regenerate a human back to life by using science; however, his ill-planned idea came back to haunt him for eternity. We find ourselves on the precipice of a scientific breakthrough. Mankind is now using genetic engineering, stem cell research and even cloning to play God in today’s society. Genetic engineering refers to the…show more content… Human cloning has become a highly controversial topic stating that humans have no power from God to develop life or control death. Cloning means to replicate (a fragment of DNA placed in an organism) so that there is just enough to analyze. Furthermore, this suggests that even though cloning may be possible it will never instill all the characteristics of a real human. By taking the place of God to produce their own version of a “person”, Victor and present-day inventors of cloning contravene God and the moral standards of the bible. Just like Frankenstein’s monster, these clones may have all the components of a human but lack the element of feelings and personalities. The creature and future clones will not be made in God’s image, but in the creator’s image. “Cloning represents a very clear, powerful, and immediate example in which we are in danger of turning procreation into manufacture” (Leon Kass). Cloning, along with the other two violations of God, should have never been practiced by
