Fredrick Douglass and Captain Canot were polar opposites. One was a slave who witnessed horrible things as a child and rose to fame with knowledge and strategy. One was an African slaver who treated black humans as cargo for his own profit and prestige. Douglass got his childhood stripped away from him at the age of six. He observed his aunt getting whipped violently by his master with no pity. Douglass was deprived of any information about him, he wasn't even sure of his birth date. Captian Canots Childhood was not recorded as whole as Douglass's. He grew up in a well-off family and knew his birth date and was literate from a young age, consequently, he did not have the same efforts as a slave.
