Tim Burton is a mischievous film director that became famous for his sunning spooky yet playful movies. Two films that show is style and technique to perfection are Edward Scissorhands, and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Tim Burton uses camera angles and music to display a certain effect and feelings to his audience.
In Both films, Tim Burton uses camera angles to show how it would be like in the shoes of the person by using eye level camera angles or 1st person point of view. For example in Edward Scissorhands when Jim got stabbed by edward Tim Burton used a eye level camera angle to show the horrific scene from the eyes of Jim. Another example is in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory when Charlie, Willy Wonka, and Charlie’s grandfather

...Cinema Review: Director Tim Burton Tim Burton is one of the most unique visionary directors in Hollywood, defining a new genre of film with his twisted imagination. Besides the similarity of having been made by the same director, there are also many other similarities between his films. For example, his film style is able to be seen clearly throughout the films, Edward Scissorhands (1991), Corpse Bride (2005) and Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street (2007). All three of these movies showing Burton’s easily identifiable film style. The characteristics that are similar across these films are the flashbacks, the actors and actresses, the characters, the use of costume, makeup and lighting. Similarities can also be seen through the themes and genres including, German Expression and fantasy. Burton incorporates characters in his films that no one would encounter in real life, such as you would never find a ghost who wants to marry a human in real life or someone who is able to chop hedges with his scissorhands. His films are characteristically quirky and unusual, however somehow making it relatable and identifiable which make them so popular with the audience. Set in a dark fantasy world , the film Edward Scissorhands , by Tim Burton, and the identity defining book The Lost Thing by Shaun Tan, explore the challenges faced with being different. Although there are some slight differences, they are overcome by the striking amount of similarities. Characters in both texts come face-to-face with the challenge of being different, which consumes most of the texts. However , there are minor differences that revolve around society’s reactions to the challenges and changes faced by some individuals, such Edward Scissorhands and “the thing”. Conformity and social isolation are both explored and scrutinised deeply throughout both texts, with strong messages delivered about the problems with being different. Whilst the texts focus so strongly on the challenges or problems of being different, they ironically reveal a stronger message about the ignorance of a society that behaves exactly the same. Conformity is a result of the influenced change in one’s behaviour and beliefs in order to fit in with a group or individuals or society.
