Pokémon Go a new game that came out for mobile phones, has enraptured today’s society with collecting all the little digital creatures. In “Pokémon Go See the World in Its Splendor” the author Amy Butcher uses her persuasive style to convince the readers that have negative sentiment towards the game to give the game a try. Her style is well supported by a plethora of personal experiences and emotional attitude to the game. However, her persuasion falls flat in the absence of logistical statistics. She uses a strong persuasive style that’s mostly based off her own experiences. Using hyperbole to bolster her own her words to make them seem more important. An example “Certainly there is the argument — already frequent, predictable and boisterous — that it is a particular brand of tragedy that leads an entire generation of American children into the great outdoors while clutching phones before their faces.” (Butcher, “Pokémon Go”). The article helps to inspire me with new ideas. Such as that this game is a revolution itself. As said by Butcher “In the meantime, it seems far from terrible to see a father and son racing down suburban sidewalks. To spend an evening not sitting passively before a TV, but interacting simultaneously with both our media and the world.” (Butcher, “Pokémon Go”). It was at this moment, in the article, that I realized that this revolutionized the world. Got people willingly out of the house to meet new people and explore places they’ve never been. Still, even though Pokémon Go is only a fad, even the author stated this, it was able to create lots of beautiful memories that will never be forgotten. Butcher makes an impactful emotional argument.
Now, the only problem that I have with this article is the lack of logistical data provided in the article. It makes it hard to believe everything when no hard evidence is used. That’s just the type of person that I am. Agenda’s fueled by emotion are very persuasive and Butcher does a good job. However, these persuasive abilities fall flat after the reader stops to think for a bit about any lacking evidence. Even with the lack of logistical information, it doesn’t change my opinion that I think the game is worthy of praise for its revolutionary
