...Singing in the rain…. By Vimla Patil September 2009 Though rain has inspired joyous dances and music all over the world, India has a unique heritage of Monsoon Ragas which were composed and sung by legendary masters like Mia Tansen to initiate welcome showers to India’s parched forests and fields so that the land would be blessed with plenty…The music they composed has inspired painters, dancers and writers for generations…… ‘A lifetime of showers moistens the soul’, says an ancient proverb. And the shimmering, crystal-clear nuances of these beautiful words apply more to India’s colourful Monsoon culture than to any other art movement in the world. Rain and the magical season of Monsoon have always been the throbbing heart of Indian life and culture. Whether we are talking about music – classical, folk as well as devotional – dance, painting or sculpture, rains and their incessant music are a recurring theme in India’s many-splendoured art treasure, and not without excellent reason! It is well-known that India’s entire economy depends upon the timely coming of the Monsoons. Vignettes of farmers looking longingly at the skies for the first signs of fleecy black water-bearing clouds are familiar in our daily life. Folk songs welcoming the first thunder showers and streaks of lightning are sung in every village even today. The diverse dialects of India’s far flung villages are replete with songs welcoming the rains and their message of bounty. Indeed, the ancient...

...ribbons and flowers. Music was playing loudly. Children were laughing. And artists were performing and singing. All of those noises were combined in a melody of universal holiday. A little bird was singing with the melody. She liked fairs. She liked holidays. But in that town they were so infrequent! What a pity! -Mommy! – Asked the little bird her mother that was cleaning her feathers sitting under the roof beam, - Why people don’t like the fairs? Why they have fun so rarely? -Because, my little birdie, they should work hard to deserve this holiday. -I want more holidays, mommy! - Stubbornly twittered the little bird, - Where can be more holidays? -Well, I don’t know if it is true, but one day the Old Raven told us the story about the City. There are more people, so there should be more fairs, I guess…- the mother-bird murmured thoughtfully. -The City, - the little bird repeated it dreamily. It was the day when the little bird decided to go to the City. Next morning when the mother was asleep the little bird managed to leave their cozy nest and to start its long way to the City. The bird had been flying above the fields, meadows, forests and rivers. The flight was difficult and tiresome. The bird felt that her wings were weak and that she was starved. But there was no sign of the City. Yet it seemed that it was going to rain. Usually the little bird liked rains. She used to sit under the church roof and listen how raindrops were falling down and tapped on the pavement...

...Careful observers might foretell the hour when they are dread of a rain shower. When rain starts, the pensive cat stop frolicking and no longer pursues her tail. When you returning home at night, you will find the sink. Strike your offended sense with double stink. If you were wise, then you should not go far to dine. You would spend more money in hiring a coach than saving in wine. A coming shower will shoot you corns presage. When old aches throb, your hollow tooth will rage. Dulman would be seen sauntering in coffeehouses. He dams the climate and complains of spleen. Meanwhile the South is rising with dabbled wings, a sable cloud athwart the welkin flings. That swilled more liquor than it could contain. Brisk Susan whips her linen from the rope, like a drunkard gives it up again. While the first drizzling shower is borne aslope and it is sprinkling just like some careless quean. She flirts on you from her mop, but not so clean. You fly and invoke the gods, then turning and stop to rail. She is singing and still whirls on her mop. The dust had not shunned the unequal strife yet, but aided by the wind it still fought for life, and wafted with its foe by violent gust. That was doubtful which was rain and which was dust. Ah! I did some research online and in a web blog I found out that Dulman is a character created...

Song Black Bird - Beatles How Can the Text Be Read and Interpreted by Two Different Readers?

...ways this song can be interpreted is with its literal reading a story of a blackbird with broken wings and "Blackbird" is a Beatles song from the double-disc album The Beatles (known as the White Album). The song was written by Paul McCartney, though credited to Lennon–McCartney. McCartney was inspired to write it while in Scotland as a reaction to racial tensions escalating in the United States in the spring of 1968.[2] In May 2002, during a show at the Reunion Arena in Dallas, Texas as part of the Driving USA Tour supporting the Driving Rain album, McCartney spoke on stage about the meaning of the song. KCRW DJ Chris Douridas interviewed McCartney backstage afterwards for his radio show New Ground, and the meaning of the song was discussed.[3] This interview aired on KCRW on 25 May 2002. I had been doing poetry readings. I had been doing some in the last year or so because I've got a poetry book out called Blackbird Singing, and when I would read "Blackbird", I would always try and think of some explanation to tell the people, 'cause there's not a lot you can do except just read the poem, you know, you read 10 poems that takes about 10 minutes, almost. It's like, you've got to, just, do a bit more than that. So, I was doing explanations, and I actually just remembered why I'd written "Blackbird", you know, that I'd been, I was in Scotland playing on my guitar, and I remembered this whole idea of "you were only waiting for this moment to arise" was about, you know, the...
